Traveling to WDW with a 6 month old

Well, it depends on the kid... so each Mom & Dad have to decide for themselves. In our case, my kids were EASIER to take at 6 months old than at 3 years. Consider:

6 month old: Can't walk... rides in stroller... doesn't slow us down. Naps in stroller, allowing us to stay in the park or by the pool while he sleeps. Doesn't object to any ride he can go on, doesn't talk back.

3-year-old: Demands to walk instead of riding in stroller, slows us down. Throws fits when you don't do what he wants. Will not nap in stroller, doesn't want to nap at all... gets tired, cranky, throws fits. Only way to get him to nap is to "force a nap" where you go back to the hotel and put him in bed with the lights off. Loads of fun for mom & dad. Won't go on any ride that is dark, loud, fast, etc... throws fits. Has tendency to dive/fall into pools when you're not looking, with or without life vest.

I'm exaggerating to make my point but do you see what I'm saying?

PS. You won't make me mad... I leave for WDW in 3 DAYS!!!!

Let's not start this. This is not why mcbates23 started this thread. He wasn't asking for advice if he should go, he is going and it is not anyone elses choice. He was asking for advice from people who have gone with a young child before. Not people who observed babies at WDW before. This has been debated before, start a new thread if you need to or bring an old one up.

dixiegirl, ah a kindered sprit! I was at the start of the 8th month (big fib that pregnany is only 9 months, 40 weeks is really 10 months!) We went for a short mini trip the start of Febuary 2001, DD was born the end of March 2001. My Dr was all for it, he said we neede the break and it woudl be got to get out of Michigan winter. He also said his wife had been to WDW that far along, but I reminded him that she also had a Dr. with her! I had no problems with the pregancy (besides being sick for the 1st 27 weeks of the pregancy,) becaue of this I had only gained 10 lbs by the time we got to WDW. My legs did not swell up at all. It was very cold that week, and I belive that helped, while I was disapointed.

Be careful in the Spetmember sun and don't get over heated. Take it slow, and even rent a whell chair if needed. You won't have to worry about which one of you sits out and wacthes the 3 year old when the other rides space montain. How long was your 1st labor, I hear the 2nd comes much faster and sometimes early! Go to your Dr. right before you leave to be sure everything is fine, and don't be disapointed if you end up canceling the trip. Ours was only planned 3 weeks before we left. Is it possible to go a little sooner? We will be there Aug 13 to 22!

Mrs. PhD.

hay there

hay there disneyphd.thanks for replying........my dd did come rather quickly.......labor was only a couple of hours.......can't complain...but i figure we were there last year we've done everything.......no rush......plus we've always gone the first week in sept......no lines....it's soo nice......
but as far mcbates is concern.......honey take the baby.......so what if you have to slow down and take it at a slower pace........or go back to the room and have a nap as well as the baby...you need that even if it were the two of you....in all i know it will be more enjoyable with your little one there.....and yes so what if they will not remember it......thats what pictures and video cameras are for........we took our dd for her 1st bday.......it was priceless and she is going for her 3rd visit this year for her 3rd bday.......and she talks all the time about different things we did when we went last year......so don't listen to the negative comments..........go and have a great time.......:sohappy:

GREAT ADVICE!

That's exactly right... here I sit, a big fan of thrill rides, and I'm looking forward to going on "Small World" in 3 days. Why? Because I want to see my son's reaction to it. I just want to hang around the parks with my wife, my daugher (6 yrs) and my son (2 yrs) and let them just enjoy themselves without any pressure.

If we're in the park for 2 hours and they want to go back to the pool, then that is exactly what we're going to do. Because on this trip, it's not about going on Tower of Terror 8 times (although I'd like to do that). It's about spending magical time with my family.

I'll give you a trip report when I get back and tell you how he liked Small World!
