Travel Channel special on May 6 reveals resort 'behind the scenes'

I'm sure the Travel Channel has been wanting to do a program on Disney for a while. This is probably just the first time Disney caved and gave them permission to do so.

I really liked it. It was more on the quality of one of those VHS tapes you buy at the parks of all the rides, but offered lots of cool photos. To the dismay of grizzlyhall, I like the TT fotage, including the gut wrenching one of WoM being torn down (when I was young, only ride in Epcot I would ride). Although it kinda look cool, kinda.

Too bad they showed 5 seconds of ToD. Little less on E$iner please! But finally hearing all those Imagineers speak was cool, especally Tony Baxter. They could have done more in a 2 hour slot, and they do those from time to time. 30 min for each park. Good idea, must send before everyone else to Discovery.... :lookaroun

PS Discovery usually sells the programs on their website (correct?), so we could check their for a copy.

Did anyone see the poster of the castle with the fiber optics in it? I want to find out where I can by this...If anyone knows, please let me know!!

I think that was a feature that might be added becuase they were talking about future things being done...that was really cool though....I thought it was great

I agree it was good and a long time in coming. I am so mad at my cable provider, it conked out about 25 min into it for about 10 min, but I hope it works better at 11:00 when I will try to tape it again.

I liked it and feel, it is about time. And they finally owned up to WDW being the biggest, the best and having a much higer standard of quaility. Oh yes and that most other parks being modeled after MK (can you say IOA?)

Actual Message sent to Disney Channel

Last post for tonight...

Below is an actual message I just sent to the Disney Channel. I will let you know if they reply...

This message is regarding the lack of programming about your Disney Theme Parks. I watched a program on the Travel Channel tonight called Walt Disney World Resort: Behind the scenes. This show is exactly what the Disney Channel needs.

About five years ago, during your Walt Disney World's 25th Anniversary Celebration you cancelled a program called Walt Disney World - Inside Out. I was very upset when you cancelled the show because I would watch the show whenever it was on. If I couldn't watch the show, I would tape it and watch it later.

I just do not understand what the Disney Company would not have a show about their theme parks. You people own 10 theme parks (4 Magic Kingdoms, Epcot, 2 Disney Studios, Animal Kingdom, California Adventure, Disney Sea Park). You also own two cruise ships, several water parks, several entertainment complexes, over thirty resorts, many Vacation club locations. You are also building a new park in Hong Kong. Having a show about the Disney Theme Parks would but a weekly one hour commercial for Disney. Disney is always expanding and this would bring people back to the Disney parks.

Please do not reply with the standard letter - We appreciate your comments about our programming...blah...blah...blah. I have sent several messages and received the same message.

There are several discussion groups about your programming. I have included the links below for your information.

Thanks!!

I felt that the special went a little further than the DVD version that is sold in the parks. In paying $30 for the darn thing I thought that they would give me a little more beginnings of WDW but I think it was poorly put together.

I would love to see a Walt Disney Treasure DVD focusing on WDW just as they did for Disneyland. In that they give alot of beginnings of and really love the detail put in the DVD. what do you guys think of that idea???

Buy the way, I did learn one thing about Cinderella Castle...it doesnt have on brick or stone brick....I thought the outside was a least made of stone....pretty neat....

:D was there in April
:king: will be there in sept..on my 7th anniversary...

I was at work and missed the first showing, but when I got home and got the tape out to video it .I was jumping for joy.For once a good decent show about WDW that was not done by Disney attraction Merchandising division. They also showed why disney is still the leader in entertainment for all ages.It was sad that they did not show CBJ and CoP ,I was also a little disoppointed that they did not mention Marc Davis who invented the HM ,POTC,and CBJ which was actully the last attraction that Walt Disney saw before his untimely death.

I can't wait to get "home (WDW)" may 22-29 ,2002 and I'v just booked my next trip down their for July 3-10 ,2002.

Disney needs to create more shows like this ,past and present for their theme parks and cable channels.

And Yes ,Eisner does need to take a little credit , but he is no Walt Disney and needs to step out from infront of the camera and see what needs to be done behind the scenes.

I have the program on video tape , I'll be watching this and rewinding it to many times before I get to the real thing....lol.

:sohappy:

Actually... Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, along with the new Disney park in Hong Kong are all franchises, and are not actually owned by Disney. The Walt Disney Co. only owns the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, and Walt Disney World. I'm not quite sure about the Disney Cruise Line though...

However... despite only being franchises, we do have close ties with them, in that we work together... in the effect of one company. (although financially independant of each other, which is why Tokyo got DisneySea and the Monorail, and Paris got the Disney Studios) I know a few people who have gone over to Disneyland Paris for a year, and one friend who got offered a job out at Tokyo DisneySea... But because they're seperate entities, seniority doesn't carry over... so, it's like you quit, and were rehired. (It also doesnt mean that WDW will take you back when your time is up overseas...)

ANYHOOOOO... on a completely unrelated note... I'm so bummed... they cut my part out... I had the film crew ride my monorail... oh well... :)

actually, DCL is wholly owned by Disney and in paper, is a subsidiary of WDW
