Travel agents? Are they worth going through?

Looking to book a trip for September of next year 2019 and I have heard people tell me that travel agents can sometimes lock in better deals than what the Disney site has to offer. Do any of you recommend a travel agent? Why or Why not?

Zip, zero, nada.

They get paid a commission by Disney so they do not charge for their services.
Wow, that's amazing. I did not know that (hence my question ;)

I did use a quasi-travel agent once. I say quasi because it was a jetblue vacation package. They really didn't do a good job, I had issues with the reservations and because I booked throuhg them, I had get JB and Disney to talk and straighten it out. it was a bit of a pain, and ever since then I've been booking on my own. That is I control my own destiny.

That didn't prejudice me against TA, per say, just that JetBlue is about flying not dealing with vacations

We had our ups and downs with agents as well through AAA.

It seemed like AAA agents came in 2 flavors when it came to Disney. A few could draw you a scale map of every resort on property from memory. Most were pretty sure it was somewhere in Florida. After a couple of the second type, we too started booking ourselves.

I met the owner of @Kingdom Konsultant (Pam) around 2005ish and started using their services about a year later.

Since then about the only trips I have booked myself have been of the last minute variety.

If you're new to planning a WDW vacation or just don't enjoy the stresses of making and managing your own bookings, FP+, ADRs etc., then using an experienced and reputpable WDW travel agent is a win-win! It will cost you nothing, will make your planning more enjoyable and efficient, and will give you a well-educated resource for any questions and concerns that you have along the way. (*Just make sure the TA you choose is well-reviewed ahead of time. We once made the mistake of using a "friend" who was a WDW TA, simply because they were a "friend," and they turned out to be so sluggish and inept that I still ended up doing everything myself, and the friendship was forever tainted...)

If you're like me, and are a somewhat-experienced WDW visitor who genuinely enjoys researching and planning (read: overplanning!) your own vacation and wants the power to modify your own booking at will, then maybe using a TA is not for you. :)

I will second (or third, forth, fifth, whatever!) Marie at Kingdom Konsultants (@wannabeBelle). She is absolutely amazing to work with, and will always be on the lookout for better deals, and will answer any questions you have, even the stupidest ones! (and we had some dumb ones way back on our first trip)
The only dumb question is the one that is unasked. I welcome the questions and it also helps me as it creates a dialogue that helps me to know what you and your group are looking for so I can make some better recommendations. Thank you for having faith in me to make a very special vacation for you and your families, it is an honor. Marie

I agree Weather Lady! I made the mistake of saying a certified WDW TA, when I should have said an experienced, trained, knowledgeable, and reputable TA. I was apparently mistakenly told that there are actually certified WDW TA's. I just know that our WDW TA is fantastic. Even though I now know a lot about the in's and out's of booking a Disney vacation, I still have her set the trip up. I find that having her do that is part of the trip planning fun for me. I do mhy own adr's and fp's, events, etc. She makes the reservations, finds me good deals, books flights, etc. I know I could do that myself but enjoy having her do that for me.
So, for us, using a TA works for us.
