Trash Watching

Yes, I know what you're thinking. What on Earth is this thread about. Well I am going to tell you. On my family's last trip to WDW, we did something we call "Trash Watching." At the MGM Studios, we would drop a piece of trash on the ground, then watch and wait until someone picked it up. The dropping would be carried out casually by a family member, while the rest of the family watched from a bench. The Custodial CM's were awesome. The longest the trash stayed on the ground was, (yes we timed), 4 mins. 31 secs. We realized that only in Disney would you see such cleanliness. Way to go Disney for keeping the parks cleans. So has anyone else done "Trash Watching?" It's a great thing to do when you're tired from a day in the park!

P.S.- Please keep in mind that we did realize that a CM would eventually pick the trash up, and we would not purposefully trash WDW.

Nope...I've never done any "Trash Watching"
I've always got better things to do in WDW than dropping garbage on the ground and timing it's pick-up. :lookaroun

I suppose that in some sort of twisted way, this could be considered a boon to job security by the custodial castmembers so I guess it's not a bad thing.

I, for one, think that was a novel idea. I mean, I only get to go every few years and try to maximize my time there - but if I lived closer or went more often, I'd do stuff like this too.

And don't fret - nobody here thinks less of you for "littering" - it was a test, and if they had failed the test, we all know you would have disposed of it yourself :)

Now, I admit, when I first read your Thread Title I thought you were people watching for White Trash and counting mullets or something!

I'll be doing custodial for the college prgram in the fall(72 days) and i will keep that disney tradtion of cleaniness going.

Let me tell you, guests appreciate the job the custodial guys do more than they know. That is a fact. They are one of the biggest reasons why WDW is so great. It's great to hear people actually caring about the tradition and the overall upkeep of the park. Good luck with everything.

That is a cool idea LOL.

I don't think I could bring myself to put a piece of trash on the ground, even if I knew I would pick it up later.

But way to go Disney for such high standards!

I hope no one gives you heat for this thread.

 Don't you think that CMs have got anything better than clearing up trash whether or not its deliberately discarded for the self amusement of guests under the guise of some scientific experiment or time and motion study ? Might I suggest that if you want to go drop litter then do it on your own doorstep and don't litter up the parks where others were enjoying a trash free environment.

I actually did something like that...except I didn't litter, but I watched someone else's litter to see how quick it would get cleaned up.

It happened at Epcot in the Electric Umbrella and somebody spilled their drink right by the door. I was very suprised b/c it actually took them a LONG time to clean it up...I'm thinking like 20 minutes or something...but they did clean it up before I left the restaurant.

That's part of their job. Disney has always been clean and that comes from the help of them CMs.

Perhaps it is - but they're not likely to be overly grateful when somebody deliberately creates work for them - I mean they could be looking out for lost kids who have been abducted by Kodak employees and passed on to the first motherly looking figure they can find

I find the whole area cleaner then the rest of the world, esp. cleaner than N.O.

Another one of a thousand reasons I want to move down there. :D Anyone want to trade a fully paid a rental double in New Orleans for a fully paid rental double around WDW???
:animwink: :animwink: Although I would take a serious offer into consideration.

And we wonder why Disney has to keep raising prices. Why couldnt you find a piece of trash someone else dropped and see how fast it took you to pick it up......

Yup, all our ticket prices went up because someone dropped one piece of trash on the ground in an area that the custodial CM was going to be passing though anyway - dang - now I can't afford to go anymore.

Ok, NOTICE - all guest should pick up any and all trash they see, even if it isn't theirs, so that our ticket prices will go down. Yeah, that sounds realistic too

Ok, I agree, if they do this over and over and over - it's excessive. If they do it once, it does little or no harm. If they watched someone else's trash, it does no harm at all. Next time I go, though, I'm taking all my trash from home so that the CMs can dispose of it for me.

Yeah I have to agree. I also agree with others on here, just use other peoples trash...don't create your own.

I have done it. When waiting for Spectromagic and sitting on the curb, my friends and I got bored. We placed a soda bottle in the middle of the road to see whether it would be kicked around by people or picked up. It was kicked for a while, and then picked up by a Tomorrowland manager in a nice "scoop and go" manuver.
