High speed works in other countries, no reason if thought out and designed properly, it would not work here!
That seems to be the big hurdle in this country, proper design. Instead it seems people get a favorite mode and then push it as end-all, be-all solution so it gets placed someplace inappropriate and becomes a symbol of waste and inefficiency. Transit systems can't just be about what is cool.

I agree totally. This kind of project can't be about what our thieving congress wants to line their pockets and be made to look good at election time.

Actually the most expensive/hardest part of any high speed is getting the rights of way and then being able to adjust/straighten them out for what ever rail system is to be used.
