Tradition or be more adventurous?

So, we are such creatures of habit... We have the same rituals each trip. We have always gone to MK the first and last day... We always eat one meal at chef Mickey and CP. We never seem to spend enough time enjoying the resort.
So, this trip we want to step out of our comfort zone. Do you have the same rituals? Do you try new things each trip? What works for you?

We always eat at Chef Mickey's our first day and go to MK also on that first day. We always walk in the same directions and even hit rides in the same order, too. Each year we add something different to the mix, though. We stay at a different resort each trip, add a few new restaurants with keeping our favs and do a few new activities. I also agree with you that we are such park commandos that we don't get to enjoy the resorts as much.

This trip we are definitely changing it up: my hubby is doing the Richard Petty racing experience (he's driving), we are NOT going to the MK our first day (gasp!!!!--it isn't a EMH at night so that is really why) and we have PAPs, which is a first ever for us. We plan to go a little slower, swim more, not race through DTD and watch the fireworks from our resort balcony.

So, yes, we do some traditional things but add something new each year to change it up. Plus we've been a good amount of times now to know what works well and what doesn't. :)

It's hard to go out on a limb and try something new (that might suck) when you know you can have something you like! I have always had that problem in restaurants. But occasionally I try new things. Sometimes I'm so glad I did!

I have eaten everywhere at Disney that I'd care to eat, but I didn't try everything I might like to try. Maybe one day. :)

I have done everything I wanted to do except that balloon at DTD. Experiences are easier to try out than food, though! :)

Try at least one new thing. :)

We do basically do the same things each time... Always go to Epcot first day, same order of rides, shows and places we eat at. We did eat in China last trip (first time) and really enjoyed it and so that has been added to our list of places for lunch. We pretty much have it timed so that by time we go around World Showcase, have lunch and get around to Canada, Off Kilter is about to come on!

We also almost always do the same things in the same order. As a TA, I make my client's itineraries and they are similar to mine in ways, but different bc they are of course tailored to their own families. So when our trips come, it's hard to think outside that box for us! I tend to spend zero time planning our own trip! This past trip was just my two boys and me so we decided to take it easy. We'd just been in November and this was a Mardi Gras trip. We had PAPs, so went to Typhoon Lagoon, we swam in our resort pool and didn't follow much of a plan. It was busy and we didn't get a ton of rides done, but it was a great trip! We had a ton of fun and family time. For our next trip, I plan to do something similar- hit the rides that we want to and then swim a lot. That quality family time is what Disney is all about. In the hustle and rush to do everything, we tend to forget those small moments.

I think its very easy to fall in to the habit of doing the same thing. I am guilty of it all the time. We find the things we love, and we want to return to it all the time. We always seem to hit up the same places to eat because we love it. O'Hanna's and Liberty Tree comes to mind with my family. We do however try and make it an effort to do at least one thing, whether its a ride or a restaurant, or an experience that we had previously never done and add it to our 'to do' list with each trip. Sometimes its a success and we add it in to future trips other times we realize why we had never done it before..

We always try new things and stay at different places. We have never repeated staying at the same place onsite. Our first deluxe was BWV. When we stayed there we were just in love with it and vowed we would always come back to BWV. Then we realized that is not how we do things.
Since then, we have stayed at VWL, BCV, OKW, SSR, AoA, Pop and others and have BLT coming up in Sept.
If we had went to BWV each time, we would have missed out on some fantastic places, each special in its own way.
As far as trying something new (that might suck), how do you know what you are doing now is actually what sucks, compared to what you could be doing, if you don't try?

Very good point! I love that you try a different resort each time and that you always try new things!!

Other than our favorite rides and Dole Whips - we make things up on-the-fly, and try to do new things with every trip. Check out an area of a park we didn't have enough fun in prior, stay at a new resort or try a new eatery.

We mainly just go with the flow, but have certain things we tend to do each trip. We tend to either start with MK or Epcot, as well as end our trip with one of them. We stay at POR in the mansion rooms (at least until we are able to stay at a deluxe). We eat at T-Rex, Cosmic Ray's, CHH and SS. We get desserts at least a couple of times at POR's food court during the night. That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.

I try to find a good mix between things I always do and trying something different. I have some traditions (certain photos I have to take, even though I must have it 100x over in my different albums, I have to have a breakfast flatbread at Saratoga...) that I try to keep on every excursion....

Every trip I pick at least one restaurant that I have not tried and put it on my list. At least I can say I tried them if they aren't among my Dis-faves. If I have people travelling with me, I always ask for one thing they 'must' do and what they have never done before that they want to.

I don't want Disney to become the same old vacation where I plug everything in by the numbers. "Oh, I have to eat at X restaurant, and my first ride at Epcot has to be Maelstrom."

When I leave Disney on the trail of tears I always choose something I have never done and say, "Well, now I have to come back so I can do that!" and it helps me to think that I can start planning my next trip.

Oh, the saddest tradition of all which I hope to NOT do on this trip....I always forget to charge my camera the night before we go to MK and it always dies...just in time for Wishes!! I'm definitely "mixing things up" and not doing this!! ;)
