Another addition to the ongoing DCA expansion, a 50-minute musical starring Buzz and Woody. :D

“Toy Story – The Musical” will take over Hyperion Theatre in Disney’s California Adventure park in early 2011.

The characters and playful plot from the original Disney•Pixar film, Toy Story, will come to life before your eyes in this dazzling, musical stage spectacular where you’ll be treated to a unique “toys’ eye view” of life in Andy’s room. The stage show will feature larger-than-life set design, new songs, vivid projected backgrounds and elaborate costumes.

The 50-minute musical will preserve the humor and heart of the original film and will explore the true meaning of friendship as Buzz Lightyear and Woody transform from jealous adversaries to best friends with an unbreakable bond.

“Toy Story – The Musical” is just the latest announcement of a line-up of great attractions and experiences coming to Disney’s California Adventure. To find out about all the new things coming to the park, check out DisneysCaliforniaAdventure.com.

of course.. this means Aladdin the musical will close next summer. :(

To make way for this exciting addition to Disney’s California Adventure park, “Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” will close August 15, 2010. If you’re visiting the Disneyland Resort this holiday season, don’t miss your chance to catch this great show.

Initially I was against the change because I love the Aladdin show so much (Genie! :( ).. but it sounds like this will be great, i'm really looking forward to it.

I wonder if this is the same show that is on the Disney Wonder cruise ship?

I'm guessing it'll be a similar show, yes. However, with the Hyperion theatre having a much bigger stage.. i'm guessing there will be some noticeable differences

Nooooooooo!

I like Aladdin very much, don't take it away I've only seen it like twice. : - )

In all seriousness, while I'll miss Aladdin and the massive theatricallity of it (along with the hilarious genie) it has been around for quite a while. I'm excited to see this new show in the future-hopefully it will live up to its predecessor.

an update from the BlueSkyDisney blog:

Well, it appears when the majority of DCA's Extreme Makeover is done in 2011 that there'll be a new show to replace Aladdin...

Right as the Genie goes back into the lamp in mid 2010, the Lamp's first classic will be turned into the replacement at the Hyperion Theater in 2011. It'll be an expanded and somewhat altered version of the show that plays on the Disney Cruise Line that makes the transition to the park though. The one on the seas hasn't gotten the best of reviews and there is talk of some tinkering before the curtain arises in a couple years.

Now, we can move on to all those other pressing matters at Hollywood Backlot/Hollywoodland that will have to be dealt with over the next two years...

Awww Im sad about Aladdin leaving :( I guess all good things must come to an end... But the good thing is its getting replaced with another show not like how Snow White the Musical left and we got Princess Fantasy Faire.... I wonder if they'll take advantage of the theater being closed to re-do the facade.

Also Eddie from the Disney Parks Blog I believe has been Aladdin(musical), DJ from C!ASP, HSM singer, Prince Naveen(show) as well as in the show Shot at Love... Eddie has been seen taping out by the World of Color panels on the Paradise Pier bridge so hopefully another official Disney update soon(which is very cool of them to do!)

Congrats on over 1000 posts sponono!

:cry::cry: I agree, one of DCA's best offerings. I love the flying carpet over the audience, I hope the tech can be used in Toy Story some how. I still find it odd they choose Toy Story for the Hyperion. Also hoping the Hyperion can at least get its new facade.

Disney Parks Blog has a little video-

Congrats on over 1000 posts sponono!

Thanks! only took me six years

A trip to DCA just won't feel complete without seeing Aladdin :( And I will really miss the Genie. I was there on Oscar night this year - Genie walks out on stage, holding his lamp upright like an Oscar award.. "I'd like to thank the Academy" And he told Jafar he loved his Oscar dress. Ahh, I will miss that.

Still looking forward to Toy Story the musical though. And yeah, I wonder if they will use the the flying equipment for Toy Story - maybe they could use it to make Buzz fly? that would be cool.

Disney Parks Blog just announced that Aladdin will be extending its run - it will no longer close in August! :D

Contrary to earlier reports, the Hyperion Theater won’t be setting the genie free just yet. By popular demand, “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” will remain at Disney’s California Adventure park.

We received a lot of comments on the Blog asking for Aladdin to continue its run. It’s almost as if the Genie granted your wish!

Although “Toy Story – The Musical” was scheduled to move into Hyperion Theater following Genie’s last bow, Buzz, Woody and their pals will stay focused on the new additions in Toy Story Mania…for now.

Construction has been scheduled near the Hyperion Theater for August 15. Although that may still impact some performances, we’re doing everything we can to keep the show up and running. Stay tuned to the Blog for updates, and we’ll share details when we have them (or, you can always check disneyland.com for showtimes).

Now, close your eyes, make a wish and hit play to see Genie in action. And don’t forget to tell us your favorite Genie joke – and oh, no wishes for more wishes.

This news made my day! I guess they realized the show was more popular than they previously thought. I know a lot of people were vocal against the removal of the show, and the blog mentions that the show will be extended due to "popular demand." With WoC opening soon, the park will be seeing new guests who will probably want to see the show so it makes sense for them to keep it around longer.

What does this mean for Toy Story? I have no idea. It will probably be delayed until 2012 or longer.

If it's similar to the show on the Wonder, it's very good. However, I've never seen the Aladdin show.. but seeing as it's one of my favs, I feel like I would be against it's removal as well!

Best news of the week! Im happy Aladdin is staying. It would have been Toy Story overload with TSMM! and the Toy Story unit in PPP(which just got a bit longer too)
