Toy Story Mania

Do you think it is over rated. Don't get me wrong my whole family loves it but the mad rush for fast passes every morning at rope drop and 2 hour waits even on slower days. Is it all worth it?

We love it, except for the being jostled around while spinning and turning, but that's OK. I wouldn't wait two hours for anything. That's why we are up and at rope drop and taking advantage of EMH in the morning. I'm amazed at the rush for TSMM! first thing in the morning.

In my opinion, Toy Story Mania is the most overrated attraction at Walt Disney World. Yeah, it's cute and fun, but that's about it.

First of all, thematically, it does not fit with Disney's Hollywood Studios. In Toys Story Mania, you are apparently shrunken down to the size of a toy (they don't explain how) and you are part of Andy's new carnival toy set. Just because it's an attraction based on a movie doesn't mean it fits the theme of the park.

It's located in Pixar Place, a realistic recreation of the Pixar Studios. You would expect to see a behind the scenes exhibit to observe the history of Pixar, not a cloned midway attraction that shrinks you down to the size of a toy. Disney's Hollywood Studios has two parts to its theme: a studio tour setting that allows you to learn about the process of film making and a tribute to classic Hollywood or Hollywood in general. It's stretch to even say that Star Tours fits thematically; at least the building is supposed to be a sound stage, which supposedly means that you are walking into a hot set for a Star Wars production.

Secondly, Toy Story Mania is a very basic, bland attraction. It's essentially a moving video game. I could almost get the same exact experience at home if I played the Toy Story Mania game on the PS3 or Wii while rolling around on a computer chair with a fan blowing in my face from time to time.

Thirdly, there is more substance in the queue than the actual ride. There are no real props or set pieces within the attraction, just screens and painted backgrounds in a warehouse setting.

I've only been able to get on this one time, back when it first opened. I thought it was really cute, and I'd like to do it again, but since Buzz at MK is kinda similar and it's a continuous-load attraction, I can ride this back to back with little to no wait. I'm never in the Studios long enough to warrant getting a FP for it, either. I love Toy Story and I would be open to more related attractions or shows, or even a better expansion of Pixar Place in general!

I have to admit the one and only time I rode it, I was too preoccupied to enjoy it. I had NO idea it would jostle you around so much and what it was really like, and we took my 12 month old on it. So basically my whole ride was smooshing her close to me so she didn't scramble like an egg! She did keep her little glasses on and liked what she saw, but I was too worried to enjoy it too much. Lesson learned! To be honest though, while it seemed fun, I truly didn't get what the HUGE fuss was about.

It's an okay "E" ticket ride, not great but good IMO and would be fun if not for the ridiculous wait times and frequent break downs. I think if DHS ever gets some more decent rides at that end of the park we may see some more reasonable wait times but the rider/hour rate is abhorrently low and was poorly considered in engineering stage.

It's an enjoyable attraction, no question about it. But there isn't ANY attraction at WDW worth the kind of mad rush and long wait times that TSMM has. And the fact that it's been several years since the attraction opened and it STILL has this kind of attention just mystifies me.

It's really a lot of fun. I love the queue. But, I wish there was more to it than simple video screens. I understand the rush, though. Disney's Hollywood Studios is one of the most visited parks in the U.S. and Toy Story Midway Mania is one of, what, 6 rides in the park? 3 of the other rides are classified as thrill rides, The Great Movie Ride can be too scary for kids and The Backlot Tour is a drag. So yes, I understand the mad rush for Fastpasses because it is one of the only rides in the park that a family can enjoy together.

Compared to other "shooting" rides in the area (Men in Black, Buzz), I don't think it's as good simply because those two rides have actual sets all around you. And Men in Black has a freakin' awesome queue and it could easily be just as good of a ride without the shooting aspect.

I enjoy Midway Mania, but I would never wait more than 45 minutes for it.

Pretty simple equation...in the middle of a desert a dying man will drink kerosene to quench his thirst. If there was more substance to the park then it would have the same wait time as its' sister attraction in TL but since there is so little to do in the park in terms of real rides they all get swamped. I am with you, it boggles the mind that people will wait like they do but what choice do the non-park hopper ticket holders have?

Probably wouldn't be a 2-hour wait if it was at MK. Everyone makes a mad dash to get it out of the way for their half day at DHS. I love it, but personally I think Star Tours is much better. We do the mad dash then go do Star Tour 5-6 times.
