Out of curisority did they do any crowd control during the Osborn lights at one point since it's in the same place?
Yes - at times CMs would guide you past the Writer's Stop and not allow entrance there. They also had the lower access by the Streets of America blocked off.....I don't recall the exact placement of CMs and cones, but they definitely had them for crowd control a few times while we were there........most guests behaved and followed instructions

it is very possible that if GE reaches capacity

If it's OK with you can we change your "if" to a "when". Thanks.

Here is the inevitable event: GE will reach capacity on many days; I wouldn't be shocked if it overflowed for 4+ months straight.

(Of course this presumes an 'all things equal' approach)

It is going to be insanity trying to filter the Star Wars crowds in or out. 😑 The walkways everywhere in DHS are so narrow- I just don’t see how it isn’t going to be a nightmare. It will make Pandora crowds look like nothing.
Oh ya..........
Prob wont go to DHS for a few years......insanity.
WDW allows far too many people through their gates anyway.
Went to MK on the 4th of July a couple of years ago. Never again. Why they let it get that packed I will never understand.
Oh ya I do...$$$$$$.

Our hopes were the crowds would flock to GE and thus relieve the Hollywood Blvd area(s)....now its seems obvious the hopelessness of those in, trying to get in and thus overflow from GE will make the entire Park impossible.....other areas of the Park get no relief, no ceteris paribus

I don’t know that I can stay away for a few years- for whatever reason MGM/Hollywood Studios was always one of my favorite parks- but I will stay away from it for awhile. My goal is to go as many times as I can before it opens. We were there in September, November, be there in May and hopefully late August early September. (Hoping it doesn’t open earlier than they say) After that, we may take a complete break for awhile.... assuming I can handle not going at all in 2020. 😑 I don’t have much faith in myself though.

Most of my cast member friends expect the exit for Galaxy's Edge for the first few months to be the old Pixar Place (currently Metroville) for crowd control purposes. This will involve a little bit of a backstage walk. Similar to when Hogsmeade at Universal hits capacity and you're routed backstage from Jurassic Park to the Lost Continent or when they open up the backstage bypass of Main Street USA.

I really wish they wouldn't try limiting people to BlackSpire. That was a mess for Hogsmead. People being rationed times to go in then felt they had to stay as long as possible. It still got jam packed and crazy. Let people self regulate and juat come and go into the area. Some will leave, others will just come to wander around and look. Everything will be jam packed being a brand new Land. Attempting to regulate the flow and handing out fastpass like return times doesn't work.

Every time I went to see Osborne Lights the the last few years they would have a designated entrance into Osborne and a designated exit when you were ready to leave. If you tried to enter the exit point they would direct you back around to the entrance side.

It is also my understanding that traffic flowing into GE will be one way....with the exit coming through TSL.

Haha, I think for my next WDW vacation, I'm going to rent an electric scooter (this way I have a guaranteed seat), and I'm going roll through TSL at rope drop and get right next to the SWGE one way exit and park myself right there for the day.

The regular parents trying just to get to GE after visiting TSL are going to be at one level of mad, but I think the steam will be visible from the ears of parents who had a FP in TSL and next one in GE are are told that instead of just walking in a straight line, they get to take the scenic route through Echo lake.

Then for my vacation after that one, whenever I get stressed out, I can remember those parents who were told they couldn't walk to the place they were right next to, and remember that things aren't that bad.
