That Buzz on the map looks just a liiiiitle bit bigger than it really is.

I'm sure it's just for the purpose of emphasizing where you'll be able to find the movie's main characters represented in the land. Since we're shrunk down to Green Army Man size, seeing the other toys supersized is meant to be a meaningful part of the fun.

Wouldn't want guests to struggle finding Buzz so they can get that shot with him for their Instagram.

Yes
this.....only thing ANYBODY can go on.

Backlot Tour and Great Movie Ride we're both open at the time Toy Story Mania opened and became a huge hit.

Plus Star Tours may have a height restriction, but it is still mostly a family ride. Plus all the shows and other attractions. Some, like Playhouse Disney, specifically aimed at young kids. And a dedicated children's playground for people who can't ride much (honey I shrunk the kid's).

There was always stuff for toddlers and families and all ages. Especially when Toy Story Mania first opened.

Toy Story Mania became a popular and well loved ride because people like it.

Plain and simple.

A lot of people really love Toy Story Mania.

No deeper meaning. It isn't due to the failures of Hollywood studios.

People like the ride.

Not because of a lack of options.

Because they like it.

It's ok to not like it. I'm not huge on it. But that's personal preference. And not the common consensus.

I know it has been mentioned many times that the entire area will be closed off and become backstage. Why wouldn't they leave it open up to the 2nd archway, wall it off there and leave the already themed area as an expanded meet and greet area. They have definitely not built anything for meet and greets in the new area.
I know people keep saying that Pixar Place is going to be closed off and made into back stage area but if that is going to happen wouldn't they be building a new gate right past the new entrance to Toy Story Land? Has anyone seen any construction for a new gate there? They added a gate at the far end, you would think they would already be constructing a new gate to close the area off on June 30, unless they are going to keep it open....

I'm presuming that gate is there in case they use the other back stage road as overflow or outflow for SWL. This directs people from one SWL entrance to another and keeps them from going down Pixar Way.

So I just attended a CM + friends preview.

The QS wasn't open, sadly. Both rides were...

Alien is decent. However, they're going to have to refurb the floor practically every other night.. the smudges coupled with the blue floor doesn't lend itself as well to blending in as the brown does at Maters, I presume (which I've never experienced). Honestly, I wish it went a bit faster a la the tea cups, but families should be pleased enough.

Slinky was better than I was prepared for -- also slower -- nothing grand, but whimsical! If you can remember my standpoint, I just wasn't all that impressed with the idea of this land... especially with the budget cuts. However... I suppose it does its job, and it is very quaint. It's still quite a lot of land for what is there... which is a shame. But honestly, the theming is well enough to where it really underlines just how bad other areas in the park look.

Without getting too negative about the experience (because it really wasn't a bad time), it was quaint and whimsical. However, Alien was a 5 min wait. And Slinky was 5 the first time and maybe 20 the second... And that's not going to be the case for quite some time. So I only have plans to visit the QS and maybe TSM in the future.

I think it's odd how with everything that is happening surrounding Toy Story's presence in the parks, that they still haven't updated the head molds for the walk-around characters. I mean they've been using the same head sculpt for Buzz and Woody since the debut, and there is no way that those are prints from the original files. I think it's time for an update there.
This post inspired me to fiddle around in Photoshop to see how they could look with an update -- done with little more than some liberal use of the Liquify tool:

Not quite perfect, but everything here was done with the bones of what we have already, I didn't edit anything into the photo that wasn't already there (save for the whites of some eyes -- and I de-fluffed Woody a little around the middle too, for some reason he always looks overstuffed). I made the effort to keep in mind the practicality of them needing to function in the parks and be good to their "friends". They could totally stand to be more on-model.
