Toy Story Hotel Planned to replace Paradise Pier Hotel?

I really wish they would just bite the bullet, bulldoze all of the old Disneyland hotels and start over. Grand Californian, you can stay. Clean the slate. No matter how many times you overhaul them, they will never really feel like Disney resorts, because at their core, they weren’t built that way.

But then again, the new Disney hotels aren’t that amazing either. I miss the era of 7-ish story, ground-hugging, completely architecturally themed hotels that they used to build. Not towers that have a vague architectural decoration implying a theme. Looking at you Gran Destino and Riviera. And no matter what you do to the hotels at Disneyland, they will never be more than a hotel tower with decoration standing in for theme.
If anything, the Disneyland Hotel is the best of the three. That one doesn’t need to get touched.

I have no problem with the GC or DLH. I’m happy they are doing something to Paradise Pier, just not sure there is enough lipstick for that pig.
I think the rooms at GCH could use updates, but other than that (and the prices), I don’t have a problem with it either. PP is clearly the biggest issue, but yeah, I don’t want to see yet another Pixar overlay. More lamps and play balls, yay.

I think it will do great with families TBH. Unlikely I would stay there…though it’s unlikely I would pay to stay at any Disney hotel in Anaheim again given the prices

It's so weird... It's not like they have Lasseter's ego to stroke anymore.

Honestly, I'd prefer a Toy Story overlay. Toy Story Land (found everywhere except Anaheim) is cheapness at its MOST charming. The absolutely most creative bang you can get for very few bucks. Why not do that instead of this? This looks just as cheap, but not nearly as fun.

And it WEAKENS the Pixar Brand. I thought giving them the whole Pier was bad, this is so much worse. They used to be the Mercedes Benz of Animation Studios. Now they're getting the Nickleodeon Hotel treatment.

Completely agree on your latter point, but disagree about Toy Story overlay. There's too much Toy Story presence in general.

Over it. Done. Stop it.

Maybe internationally, but as far as Anaheim goes, there's no "Cool, I'm the size of a toy!" place.

I guess I'll find some satisfaction in the Pym Brewery.

For better or worse, the hotel will at least now be thematically consistent with the area of the park from which it is visible. Not that DCA has any semblance of a consistent theme left these days. I'm at least glad it's all of Pixar and not just Toy Story.

All-New Theme Coming to Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel

All-New Theme Coming to Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel

Ugh. More Pixar branding garbage.

Now that both Disney and Pixar make 3d films since the last 2 decades or so, I fail to see any difference between the animation studios.

Beach balls everywhere! Whimsy!

I thought "pixar fest" was bad but who would know one day it would be the "theme" of Paradise Pier and its Hotel.

It sounds if anything like the Paradise Pier Hotel should be demo'd and rebuilt. How
old is that thing now? I've read about all the issues with it and how theres not even any restaurants or food service inside.

At least the people paying 400 a night to stay at a lackluster hotel now have a private entrance again.

Looks better than what’s there now but still not a $500 a night hotel.

I’ll likely never stay here at those rates so I’m just happy it’ll look better from DCA.

I wonder how much longer it will be until Pixar is merged into Walt Disney Animation Studios. I wonder what the difference is in working environment between WDAS and Pixar.

WDI's reliance on the Pixar Ball is strange. They slap that anywhere they need to make Pixar the 'theme'.

Pixar isn't a theme, it's an animation studio.

Imagine if Walt said- "And the heart of Disneyland will be Walt Disney Animation Land"
It's like going to someone's home that just has photos and paintings of themselves as art. Very weird. Also, the knock-off Mondrian on the porte-cochère is there because? Mondrian and the Pixar ball both use primary colors, but that's kinda flimsy.

Without the balls, this could be literally anywhere, without any theme whatsoever. That's not advocating for the Pixar balls, it's a broad criticism of the architecture, it isn't telling any story, it's just decorated "pixar" like one would for a party to be removed after the last guest goes home.

I think Disney's feeling for Pixar can be summed up in a quote from Ralph Breaks the Internet:

Merida:
Ach! Lang may yer lum reek, and may a moose ne'er leave your girnal with a tear drop in his eye! Haste ye back, me lassie!

Vanellope:
Uh-huh... What did she just say?

Tiana:
We don't know.

Moana:
We can't understand her.

Anna:
She's from the other studio.

Vanellope:
Ah.
