I just got back from the Toy Story 3-D Double Feature. All kinds of awesomeness. The 3-D effects added a lot to the movie experience, particularly during the opening sequence of Toy Story 2. Despite its age, the original Toy Story holds up incredibly well against its successor(s). There was a nice amount of new, original material created for this screening, consisting of a pre-show explanation of the "double-feature experience" and a trivia game during intermission. During these, the toys often made very MuppetVision-esque appearances as silhouettes, as if they were running the projector.

The audience reactions were great--lots of laughs, and even a few sniffles during "When She Loved Me." And as for the audience itself--it was huge. The 7:00 show at AMC Pleasure Island was completely sold out in a relatively large theater.

The trailers included Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (shudder), Planet 51 (might be good), and 3-D versions of some Universal animated film involving the theft of national landmarks (didn't catch the name, but it looks okay), A Christmas Carol (looks very good) and Toy Story 3! To clarify, this is not the teaser trailer that was packaged with Up, but rather a full trailer with actual film footage and plot details. As expected, TS3 looks amazing. It included shots of

*spoiler* (though is it, really?)

Andy packing up for college and his toys being donated to a preschool and Buzz being reset to Spanish mode.

*end spoiler*

Like Toy Story 2, it looks to run the gamut from hilariously funny to heart wrenching. Can't wait for next July!

All in all, even if you have the Toy Story Films on DVD at home I'd absolutely recommend seeing them in 3-D in the theater. They're well worth the money.

I'm happy to see the positive review, I have some down time tomorrow & I was thinking of going to Pleasure Island during the day to see if I could get into a showing. I wasn't sure if I was going to go or not since I'm not really a huge Toy Story fan, but it might be nice to do it in my downtime.

I went this afternoon, too. It had been awhile since I saw these movies, I and really enjoyed them - had fun picking out some of the little details that Pixar does so well. Did anyone else notice the name of the gas station in TS1? (Hint: Think Cars.) And, there was the Binford tool box in Sid's room.

The 3-D effect was really cool, and I'm REALLY looking forward to A Christmas Carol.
