I've heard you're not allowed to put up lawn decorations, is that true?
I've visited Celebration once, its quiet...a little too quiet actually

I know of one member that lives there and I am sure there are others. I have done the engineering on one particular house there and it was quite impressive. It does have the most restrictive covenants and restrictions policies that I have ever seen on the state of Florida. If you agree 100% with it Celebration will be heaven on earth. If you have the "I paid for my house I can do what I want." attitude Celebration is not the place to move to.

To me, Celebration is everything it looks to be and then more. I live just outside of Celebration right now, with plans of moving in there within a couple of years.

And yes, they are one of the strictest places on Earth (for a good reason).

I did a drive through tour and was suprised at how close the houses are to one another! There is like no privacy! The lawns are beutifully manicured and the houses are beautiful. The houses themselves look like they would go for about $300-500,000 here in PA, but I can't even guess how much a house in Celebration would run you.

Side Note
The lady who has paid boku bucks to have plastic surgery to look like Barbie lives in one of the houses and (you guessed it) she paid millions to have it consructed like Barbie's Dream House! I forget her name but she has been on several talk shows.

This is pretty common for houses built in subdivisions. This is done to maximize the number of houses built in a particular area. In many cases builders will design houses to be right next to the building restriction lines.

I was at a job site this morning for a 1.1 million dollar house this morning in one of the highest end subdivisions in Jacksonville Florida. The distance from the rear Lani to the bulk head against the inter coastal was less than 10 feet. The distance between the houses on the left and right side of it was around 20 feet.

Most homes in Celebration run well over $1,000,000. And yes, lots of celebrities live in the town as well.

Sure, the houses might look really close (which they are) and might seem small from the front, but if you look, they go back quite far.

Acadia Lane is one of my personal favorite streets in Celebration! :D

(And in case you wanted to know, Wisteria Lane is in Celebration...which it's been said that Desparate Housewives is slightly modeled after this town.)

We toured a few houses there a couple of years ago, and they are quite roomy inside. I was surprised too at how close together they are. My neighbors houses here are that close but we didn't pay that kind of $$ for our house!

I have friends that live there. Beautiful interiors but the houses are WAY too close. A lot of people are trying to cash out now. It's incredible what a simple house costs there anymore. The people I know got in before the rush and the house is now worth double what they bought it for. There's little to no yards and the streets are very narrow.

As for the lawn ornaments, there was a guy who put up pink flamingos in his yard. They obviously told him to take them down. Then, flamingos started popping up everywhere. Pretty funny and it rattled a lot of cages over there.

It's a nice place to bring up a family in a quiet enviornment. If I worked at Disney, I'd consider moving there. Their hospital is supposedly very good as well.

Is it true that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stay in Celebration while they are at training camp at Disney? I have heard a rumor that the Braves stay there while they are working out during Spring Training. Does anyone know??

I go there every year when I visit WDW, There are rocking chairs by the lake its so peaceful although the "do not feed the aligator" sign does make you feel edgey.

When I was there a few years ago the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were there in the Celebration hotel, being British I didnt know who they were. I did know that they had won something becuase there was lots of journalists one of which I asked.

Supposedly. No, in all honesty it's a top-notch hospital. I've only been once and it was the worst one I've ever been to. I got into a really bad accident and hurt my right knee and neck. They did Xrays of my neck, said it was ok, and when I asked to do them of my knee, they said no. The nurse just looked at it, and said it was fine. That accident was two months ago tomorrow and I am in extreme amounts of pain still to this day in my knee. Oh...and I waited FOUR hours for them to call me in. I guess it wasn't so much of an "Emergency" room after all.

And yes, the Buccanneers and Braves do stay at the Celebration Hotel.

Since the OP asked if anyone on the board actually lived here, and was seeking an opinion - I have some observations from "Inside the Bubble".

And I'll address some of the earlier comments and questions as best I can.

Celebration is like most places, it's as good or bad as you choose to make it. And it has it's own built in good and bad as well.

Lawn decorations, I don't know about pink flamingos, but Celebration really gets decked out in a major way for Christmas and Halloween, and in some areas Easter. It's encouraged actually. No problem either with flags, door wreaths, etc, etc.

Look alike houses - not really. the restrictive covenants prevent same design/color homes from being too close. Are the houses too close together? Yes, find me a development in the last ten years where they aren't.

Expensive - certainly. But there's been a real estate bubble nationwide. A realtor neighbor tells me that something like 12% of Celebration homes are worth more than $1,000,000.

Stepford. No. If it were Stepford, it would be perfect and this place isn't even close. Besides, the Stepford joke became stale and yawn inducing about 8 years ago.

The Bucs take over the entire hotel every August. If any of the Braves are here, they're doing it as individuals, not as a team. I've been told they stay on Dis property, but I don't know.

With the exception of restaurants and the theater, downtown is not for residents, except that it's a great place to hang out when the weather's nice. No grocery, no drug store, no hardware store. Frankly, the merchants survive because of tourists, which is a shame.

Town business and common area issues are handled by a confusing collections of boards, committees and companies. To address a town issue is to deal with a dysfunctional beaurocracy that is largely inept and slow to act.

The alligator sign is in the lake because there are alligators in the lakes. I killed a coral snake in my back yard last month. We spray every night for mosquitos because they are fierce. Welcome to the tropics.

Celebrities? Don't know of even one - which doesn't mean they aren't here. Bill Gates looked here once, as did Julia Roberts (allegedly).

Random factoid - we go to PI for a movie every Halloween because buying candy would break me. My neighbor had 1200 trick or treaters last year. People come in from far and wide, and they are welcomed.

Ok, thanks for letting me ramble a little too much.

I love this place - wouldn't live anywhere else right now.

I have lived in Celebration for a year now and love it! I love that it is quiet and the location is great. We have lots of walking/bike trails and back where I live there is lots of wood with cool critters. The rules can be tough to deal with at first but I don't find it to be a problem at all.

I used to live in Celebration... and I am happy to have left. I had fun living there, but I enjoy reality part of the time.

There are plenty of celebrities there (very few A-list celebrities), but they try to keep on the DL. I know when I was looking for homes, quite a number I looked at, the next-door neighbors were celebrities.

And mkt, where in Celebration did you live? I didn't know you ever lived there.
