If you read this thread....

...they're saying that DCA's version will be better!

I, for one can not accept this... I mean they (DL) keep getting better versions of our rides (with Splash Mountain the exception). Who do they (the Disney Co.) think we (WDW) are, second class?

If this is true that DCA's Tower will have better effects than ours, will they AT LEAST update ours again and add them?????

I just want to add that I’m interested by this thread, but not in reading the specific details of DCA’s tower (since I’ll be there one week after opening).

If you’re going to use spoilers, please give a warning

Actually, in most cases, the rides that are common to the two properties debuted at Disneyland first. Generally, newer clones are better, unless there were budgeting issues, like with Pirates. Most of the attractions, however, that came to wdw after opening at DL are better, in my view. Their Tower of Terror will be better because it is opening 10 years after our version. Not only has WDI learned from the errors it made with MGM's Tower, new technologies have come about that didn't even exist in 1994 and can't really be integrated into a current building very easily, but which were built right into the new Tower. I am pleased that their Tower will be so awesome, as that gives me another reason to return to the Disneyland Resort in summer 2005, and Cali Adventure is clearly in need of an excellent attraction like this. Maybe it'll do for Cali Adventure what it did for MGM.

Ummmm... what is this, a competition? I don't exactly see what's so wrong with DL getting a better version. So they learn from the first one, and improve - is there something wrong with that?

In addition, I highly reccommend actually going on the ride before making a judgment. And since I don't think anyone here has been on DCA's version, I really won't give credit to anyone's opinion stating which will be "better."

have to agree...

Later tends to be better...

I would hardly get the complex that WDW is 2nd class. One of my wife's good friends worked for years in Disney marketing, and she concluded that Disneyland was considered 2nd class because of the lack of income the resort contributed as compared to WDW.

WDW just got more attention because it was a bigger cash cow.

DCA TOT...I've heard directly from imagineers mouths that it is not going to compare in terms of budget with TOT WDW. But that was two years ago...things change.

As to the conclusion drawn that it will be better, who knows. AP previews are end of April...last attraction I rode was TOT WDW...so maybe I'll give a nice report (after I've ridden TOT DCA).

Quit  WDW'ers

Anyone see the Regis (?) live video where that comedian (sorry - I`m from the UK) rode it? The camera pointed into the car, but you got a good idea of the ride. After seeing that, I would say WDW hasn`t been bettered (not that its a competition)

If you want to see bettered see PM, POTC, BTM, IASW and SpaceM at DLP. Now THAT puts WDW to shame. As paulmartens said, later tends to be better - it is in the case of DLP!

I would argue that Splash, Big Thunder and Jungle are all better in Florida.

As for TZTOT, since no one has really rode it yet it's hard to make a conclusion. I do understand that it lacks the 5th dimension or horizontal elevator aspect. To me, this is one of the best parts. The doors open and the elevator goes on a walkabout. This blew me away. The tension builds. The black doors open with the whoosh! sound. Then you rattle into the chamber waiting for the drop. This really sets it apart from a typical drop zone ride.

From all the reports and everything that is known about DCA ToT, it was built on the 'cheap'. There is no 5th dimension and has half the capacity of the Orlando version.

Eisner supposedly rode it a few weeks ago and wondered why the ride why so short in length. Well, Michael, your hand picked corporate stooge, Paul Pressler, slashed the budget to the bone, thereby screwing DCA out of a proper E ticket attraction.

I haven't heard one report saying that this is a better version than MGM's, in fact all the talk is that it's not nearly as good.

Nah, DCA's ToT is not better.
It's different, yes, but that doesn't make it better or worse.
True, no 5D room, but there is a cool new effect in it's place.
Capacity is pretty close with 6 elevators on line. (DCA uses 8)

I seriously doubt just this ride alone will resurrect DCA, and its a known fact it will be much less than the WDW version, its basically another cheap fix for the heroin monkey DCA is.

DCA will have 8 shafts? At MGM, the cars converge and since there are two shafts in the ride, it seems like they can be starting one group will the other is riding. Can they do this at DCA with only one shaft on the ride?

Until people can get on DCA's TOT we won't know for sure if one is actually better than the other. But I think this thread is a little ironic because if you go over to any Disneyland forum, there are always threads about why does WDW get all the good stuff and DL always gets the second-rate, hand-me down attractions. I just thought it was funny how "fans" of a particular resort see things.....anyway

About DCA's tower, from my understanding....

There are 3 drop shafts vs WDW's 2 drop shafts. Although there is no "5D" room the elevators travel through to get from a lifting shaft to a dropping shaft, the elevators do move horizontally in and out of a "loading/unloading" station. In fact, each "shaft" has two loading/unloading stations, one on top of another. Thus, DCA's boiler room is nearly twice as big as WDW's and will actually consist of two floors from which guests can board. (The second floor is accessed by stairs and consists of a "catwalk" type walkway...in other words, the two story boiler room is one big room)

This will allow DCA's tower to have a good capacity by allowing each shaft to have an elevator in the drop shaft while also allowing another elevator for the same shaft to be loading/unloading. And this is the same for all THREE of DCA'sdrop shafts.

DCA has been trying so hard ever since it opened to be the best park in CA. At the opening stretch tickets were 50 bucks. I mean come on now, that is a bit much for three rides. Anyway they are starting to become a almost decent theme park now. As for TOT being better, the second version usually is. Look at cars, tv, computers. The newer model is usually better, they each have their own ups and downs, but the newer model usually outsells the older. I agree with Navigator57, that there is a WHOLE lot more tech, available for attrctions now a day. So the DCA version will most likely be different, and perhaps more exciting.

Kirsten - lol :animwink: DCA should get an improved version... afterall, they deserve it, after Disney didn't deliver on its initial opening... What I'm saying is that I hope they eventually add some of the newer special effects to Florida's version, and not leave us with another "Pirates".

CTX Rover...

CTX Rover has it right...

I've been looking at the testing for a while now...and in addition to what's been said (on this thread) there is a randomness in drop sequences, and I don't see it being confined to any shaft...i.e. I see different patterns in how the door opens, when the door opens, and what the elevator does.

Yes, two story boiler room...some say its a spoiler, others say adds to suspense...we'll see. I loved the boiler room in TZTOT in MGM.

For those of us who have seen it be constructed, it was actually very disappointing because of the height issue (ours looks so much smaller). But then we found out that there was a basement, and a big one at that.

Al though there have been rumours about DCA's version being on the cheap...who knows what could have happened in the meantime...budget adds (or even more cuts? No!)

Folks, there is horizontal movement, just not clear cross a room...just enough to have a load and unload section maybe more for the effects. This is probably wiser because of Tot breakdowns and problems with radio connections and the cars.

Anyway, I feel like for the first time here in Disneyland/California I'm lucky and that this ride might actually compare with the original in terms of quality.
