I'll be there and taking video, so if anyone see's a dork with a video camera holler! And if there will be any kind of ceremony or anything, I'll have it on film and on the net when I get home!

Famous Thrill Ride Celebrates 13th Anniversary

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA -- (July 11, 2007) While some hotels shy away from having a 13th floor, there's one haunted hotel-themed attraction at Disney-MGM Studios that savors the superstition.

Triskaidekaphobics beware -- the 13-story Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror marks its 13th anniversary on Friday, July 13, 2007.

Since opening in 1994, the famed Walt Disney World thrill ride has been reinvented with new effects and technology that actually places the attraction in control of each ride experience.

Random ride and drop sequences make the attraction faster and add more drops than ever before.

All of the ride sequences are unique and random, so not even the droll hotel "bellhops" (costumed Disney-MGM Studios cast members who operate the attraction) know which specific sequence guests are queued to ride. It's the first Disney attraction in the world to offer random experiences and the first where the attraction actually determines the ride sequence.

In addition, cutting-edge visual, audio and olfactory special effects make Tower of Terror one of the most advanced multi-sensory attractions anywhere in the world. Ghostly apparitions, rocketing ascents, more "air time" and cannon blasts of chilling air are just a few of the surprises in store for brave Walt Disney World guests.

"The Tower of Terror affects every one of the senses, leaving you feeling as if you have really been in your own episode of The Twilight Zone," says Theron Skees, show producer for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Tower of Terror has thrilled Disney-MGM Studios guests since it opened in 1994. Similar attractions have since opened at Disney parks in California and Tokyo. A Tower of Terror is currently under construction at Disneyland Paris Resort.

The ride's fright-filled ascent begins when visitors board a decrepit hotel freight elevator that passes through mysterious hotel passageways where ghostly images of lost guests seem to appear and disappear at will. As the journey progresses, the elevator-cage hurtles through the "fifth dimension" in a pitch-black shaft, as guests embark on a not-to-be-forgotten journey.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror features Disney's FASTPASS -- offered at no charge to park guests -- designed to reduce waiting times at popular attractions in all four Walt Disney World theme parks.

Disney-MGM Studios immerses guests in the glamour of show business 365 days a year with thrilling attractions, incredible Broadway-style shows, world-class atmosphere entertainment and interactive film, television and radio production facilities.

Inncorrect - the ride officially opened on July 22nd. That's the real celebration day (and the one I will actually be observing). However, I did have a lot of fun today riding it in the 13:00 hour. :)

I went and was disappointed nothing special was happening. They said they had about 1,100 people signed up, but it looked to me like only about 200 came.
You could ride the TOT and Rock n' Roller Coaster over and over, but that's about it.

I did get some good pictures though. You can see them at

I was there yesterday, had my confirmation slip and everything but decided to skip it and enjoy EMH at Disney instead, haha.

And to be quite honest, I was shocked at some of the wait times at both Disney and MGM. Most boasted a simple 30 minutes, with a lot of the bigger rides flucating through the day. Very weird and the parks were PACKED, too.

I als loved EMH. Disney was SLAMMED but rides were virtual walk on. Space had the longest with 45 minutes. Pirates and Jungle Cruise all boasted 5 minutes.

My family was 5 of the 900 that did not show up. We assumed like at other AP events the blackout would be lifted for the seasonal passes (ie AP preview of MILF) so we signed up only to find out that we would no be able to get in.

nice photos...you're an excellent photographer (love the night shots). I want a nice wallpaper sized picture of the entire Tower of Terror tonight taken with a nice camera so you can see all of the lighting...very hard to come by.

Not to distract from the post but why can a ride can have a special anniversary and not a whole park.

That being said I know that previously there was no plans to celebrate EPCOT's 25th anniversary. But combined with statements around here and certain objects coming down so quickly it leads me to believe there may be hope for at least a small event.

I was there and had the opportunity to do Tower and Coaster without anyone else in the Elevator/Limo with me. Pretty cool experience actually, they were also just letting people ride the chicken elevator up to the load platform and/or take the red carpet access back to the load platform in coaster. Not to shabby I ended up riding coaster 6 times before deciding I was getting ill and then went over and did Tower 3 times before deciding I must be getting old and not able to ride as much as I used to.

Am I really being nitpicked because I called it Disney? It IS Disney, folks. I never said "Disneyland"

Sheesh! LOL

And besides, I was too lazy and tired to type out Magic Kingdom (and you do realize that just about every single person calls it Disney, regardless ... it's just easier, sorry!)
