Touring Plans *Mobile* -- accurate?

I recently tested it out and found it to be pretty good. Of course, it works best if you and others regularly update it. I found myself actually enjoying going around and adding wait times to the system while I toured the parks.

Ah - good point. It requires some critical mass of people updating it at all times.

Anyone else regularly contributing wait times to this system when they're at the parks?

We have used it the past two trips (May and this past weekend). We only found it to be WAY off one time this weekend, when it listed TOT as 12 min., but when we got there, the wait time listed on the sign was 50 min.

We didn't contribute times, though... sorry.

I contributed on our last visit and I too thought it was fun to report wait times. Overall, I think Lines is pretty accurate and worth using.

I believe you have to be a subscriber to use the Lines App in any way including contributing times.

Keep in mind that the time listed on the Lines App is how long you will actually wait, not the time listed at the entrance.

wow - seems like if they opened it up to allow anyone to post they'd get a more robust user group and therefore improve accuracy. (but... maybe no one would bother if they're not subscribed and enjoying the benefits of getting wait times)

(I've been surfing on the mobile site for a few minutes and yeah - I don't see a way to post times -- suppose I'll have to subscribe)

I haven't used it since my trip last December, but this was pretty accurate. I really only used it for rides with long lines I wasn't familiar with waiting for (Toy Story Mania for one) and it seemed to be helpful and accurate.

I just used 3 week ago - it was close to accurate (give or take 5 minutes for all). I LOVED IT!!! It was like having the parks maps and all the information in my easy location!!

I also think that since there are always a few jerks in real life, they are trying to avoid people who put in the wrong information just because they think it is funny.

Actually, it doesn't require people submitting at all times. There are the user submitted times for that day, and there is a statistical model that predicts what the wait times will be. If there aren't many people in the parks updating while you're there, it might be best to switch to the statistical model (by clicking the park name). The statistical model is usually very accurate, too.

Most lines programs do require user input and solely rely on that. This app is slightly different because in addition to the times entered by people in the parks, they have a system set with historical waits and tendencies which allows the program to operate even without input. Input only makes it better because it can then allow the system to account for anything special that might be happening that day that the system doesn't have programmed (event, etc).

ok but is the "mobile app" different from the mobile website? I don't have an iphone so I don't have the app. But I have a phone with a browser and I can pull up the mobile website. Is it the same as the app?

Yes, m.touringplans.com is pretty much the same as the app. The Android app anyway, I'd assume the iPhone app is similar.

We used it on our trip last May. The only time it was horribly off was when we got caught in a rain storm and it listed most rides at DHS as under 20 minutes so we hoped over there and all the wait times were above 60 because all the crowds in the park ran to get in the inside ride lines. We also submitted times quite a bit.
