It's practically free. And the site has pretty much everything that's in the Unofficial Guide and way more. The ability to create personalized touring plans and have the site spit out how long you can expect to wait in line, etc. is super helpful (and in my experience amazingly accurate).

Touringplans has also, in my experience, proved to be "on top of things" when it comes to changes in crowd levels and park policies. I have no doubt that they're gathering information to overhaul their wait time predictions in keeping with the changes that will occur due to Fastpass+ when it's fully rolled out. Their approach is a bit more scientific and trustworthy than the anecdotal reports we see here, which can give us a "flavor" of what's going on in the parks, but don't tell us specifically how to modify our touring in response. (At least, I HOPE they're staying on top of the effect of FP+. If they're not, then I'd change my tune.)

We also made frequent use of their Lines app last time we went to WDW, and found it to be much more accurate than the WDW-sponsored app that purports to give the same information. It was terrific to be able to know, before we crossed a park to a far-flung attraction, whether it was a good time to get in line or not.

If I ever became a TA, I'd hang a pic of Len Testa on my wall, kind of like Ken Ober hung a pic of Bob Barker.

Those UG/Touringplans guys REALLY are a tremendous help, especially to newbies. But I know the parks so well I could write my own book and I still pony up the $12 for the Lines app, which has Uni now, too. I might have paid extra for Uni, not sure. It's so little that who remembers it.

I will say right now, they seem to be having some growing pains. They are changing over their crowd calendars or something, and so they levels have been jumping around and the recommendations (or warnings) about best/worst parks each day seem off for many time periods. Their blog says they are changing some stuff over and that things should be fixed soon.

That said, it is a great site. I bought the book, so I rec'd a discount on the subscription. But I like it a lot. I spent about April - June completely addicted to looking at the line wait times. More of a time suck than the internet! ;)

I had both touring plan and WDW lines. I found that I used WDW lines while I was in the park were the Touring plans help us plan what park to go to on what day. That was planning we did before we made our ADR's.

Totally worth it. I just renewed my subscription for an additional three years. Crowd calendars are great for picking when to go. The personalized touring plans are fantastic too. They let you customize your plan for how you like to visit the parks. Also love their blog. It has great articles and insider tips to all sorts of things. They also are always adding improvements. Two recent ones that I really love: 1) adding views from every resort room so you can see what you will be looking at, and 2) just added comprehensive coverage of Disney Cruise Line. One of the best bargains I have found in a long time.

I also use it just to check park hours or see who has EMS going on.

I sometimes think I know the parks as well as anyone (which is untrue and probably my Park Goddess ego being all over-inflated) but even I can't know Space has shut down when I'm getting off Figment and discussing whether we should zip over to the MK to ride Space or not. Well, I couldn't before my Lines app. :)

Maybe I just had bad luck, but in the 3 times I've used the Lines app over the last 2 years, it has not been accurate at all with crowd predictions. I still renewed after my first year was up (I didn't know there was a 3-year plan), and when I went in May, it estimated crowds at the parks to be between 1.something and 4...every park was an 8 or 9. Just so way off. And I'm a passholder who used to visit WDW 4 times per year between 2005 and 2009, so I can tell the difference in crowd numbers. I just had some real bad luck with them.

I've had one or two instances where the parks felt more crowded than what Touringplans was stating, however, when I looked at their definition of their crowd numbers (I believe it's a scale based on average posted wait time between 10am and 5pm) and I compared it to the wait times that I was seeing in the parks, they were very close. In other words, the park could feel to you like an 8, but if the ride wait times aren't long at all, they are within their statistical model to call the level a 4.
