ToT Rehab - why so long?

Steve posted rehab info on ToT here yesterday. This is what it says:

The Tower of Terror is set for a lot of rehab work during September. 18th - 21st September will see one side of the Tower closed. 22nd - 26th will see both sides closed, and then 27th September - 17th November will again see one side only closed. Work during this period includes cable replacements, and some new ride control systems.

My question is, how come one side will be closed for rehab work for 8 days (total) and the other side will be closed for almost two months? Does it really need to be closed from Sept - Nov? I'm just hoping the lines won't be super long while we're there, and by that I mean more than, like, 15 minutes. :)

I'm sure its more complicated then anyone is thinking. Just because its a new board. Or a new panel. Doesn't mean it won't take awhile to set it up and get it up and running to full capacity.

There will be a good chance that with one side working the lines will be longer than 15 mins

Not to mention they're trying to keep part of the ride open during most of the work so they can only do so much work when the ride is open.

My theory is that they both will be getting about the same amount of work. Just because it says one side will be closed prior to the total closure and one side following doesn't necessarily mean that Echo side will be worked on Sept. 18 - 21 while Foxtrot side is worked on Sept. 27 - Nov. 17, or vice versa. It's possible that both will be worked on during that long stretch, just not at the same time.

Good point...

Does Disneyworld.Com list 'reduced occupancy' time info on the refurb schedule? They show the one week closure but no mention of the reduced capasity periods.

I'll just make sure I grab a fast pass early to get my ToT fix.

I'm sure that they'd never list reduced capacity. They list when the "ride experience" is unavailable to Guests. If the wait is longer, it's still available. Why post something that may prevent people from coming to the park?

Well one arguement would be that if they don't go, then they're not ahead of me in the queue... :animwink:
