I've heard that TOT version 5 is coming to MGM soon. That's all I know. But I have a question to go along with that statement. What would TOT 5 be???

As a side note I missed celebrating my 200th post!! So here's to 202!

Where did you hear that from? Thanks.

Hmmm......this sounds more like a rumor than news. I guess they could add a few more drop programs to the ride system. But that'd go against the idea that Tower 4 is "random".

I actually spoke to an Imagineer and he said it is a series of random ride sequences the computer choses from. Also he told me a funny story about it, he said when they originally were choosing which ride sequences to have on the ride he and the ride programmer were on the ride testing the sequences when a bunch of high up people said they wanted to ride and they could take it. Well by 3 AM he and the ride proggramer were the only people left on the ride! There were that many sequences they had to choose from and the bigwigs either threw up or got too nausess :hurl: .

So the computer randomly choses from a series of preset sequences.
Hope this helps clear stuff up!

I'd like to see some effects added, especially the mirror at Disneyland which I hear is really cool.
I've heard a little talk of tweaking the effects a bit in the coming couple years, but nothing major.
Oh and the "mirror" or "looking glass" effect at DCA...eh...it's just the thermal imaging from Test Track...

They could always live up to the (original? has it changed?) advertising and have ToT standing up...

*giggles*

Now THAT would be scary!

I had heard they were going to add the mirror effect in the new version... just after the doors open (after the 5th demension) and there would be a floating mirror of the Twighlight Zone, and similar dialogue, and as in DCA, the passengers (aka you) you be zapped... disappear, and then the drop sequence begins. It sounds pretty kewl if you ask me... :sohappy:

The mirror sounds cool...BUT what i hear is that Disney is trying to turn that part of MGM studios into AerosmithLand. And they are taking the stars of ToT out, and putting Aerosmith into the video and as the ghosts. Steve Tyler will now be the narrator. "You are about to journey into anotehr dimension. 5...4...3...2....Yeahh!!!!"

But i like the mirror idea, idk how much more you can do to it though...

i hope thats a joke

I agree that there's not much to do to the drop sequence, since it is random. I would love to see that mirror effect included. The only thing (besides the randomness) that sets ToT apart from every crappy Freefall and Acrophobia ride in the world is the intense themeing and visual effects -- the story it tells. Anything to improve that story would be a good thing. The sparks overhead would also be neat. As long as they don't screw up the starfield effect. That is SO COOL!

Yeah, good point. What if there were sparks at the top of the elevator like the "rope" snaped when the lightning struck? Eh, eh? That'd be cool. You can see through the top of the elevator, right? I can't remember, but I know you can see through the side walls.

The back of the sign used to spark when you were at the top, but that particular effect hasn't worked in quite a few years...

(Disney has a couple patents on devices that create realiable sparks...)

MGM Needs help in the worst way...they need to become the next park to fast track an E-ticket ride. People May complain about Animal kingdom, but i think that is quickly rising above MGM....another edition of the TOT would not help matters...I'm going to assume the higher up have more sense then that and say the rumor is false.

How exactly is an update of the ToT a bad thing? MGM needs more, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do this, too. I'm always up for upgrades to my favorite ride.

I'd love to see the ride last longer and each elevator drop more times. My biggest complaint is that the ride doesn't drop enough times and doesn't seem to drop from the top all the way to the bottom any more. I'd love to see 3 full, top to bottom drops intertwined with the more random drops. I'm a sucker for ToT.

Oh, and keep the seatbelts. The more air time the better.

Many years ago, I was told that eventually the ride vehical would tilt back and forth and side to side as it drops. Kind of like the EMVs in Dinosaur and Indy.

That would be awsome, it would feel like the cord really did break. BUT, it would mean redoing the whole track system and I think that is unlikely.

Without seat dividers, I imagine that would cause you to get to know your neighbors pretty well.

Actually they wouldn't have to redo the system, just install hydrolics (if they are not already there) on the vehicle. The actual elevator that carries you would move vertical along the existing drop shafts while the part you sit in would do the tilting.

I wonder how much clearance the elevators have to the sides in the elevator shafts to allow this to happen...

I would just like to point out that the original tower of terror... on it's first day open to the public i rode it. and originaly at the top of teh ride it would spark. You would hear a snap... and teh elevator would tilt and swing to one side as if one cable had snaped. you heard another snap and WOOOOSH. you fell. it was awsome having the cable snap effect. But allas that is gone now.
