Tortuga Tavern Island Dinner Buffet

it is not accepting DDP, wonder if it will take TiW?

I don't think the temporary places take Tables--although last year the temporary bar at Comedy Warehouse Reunion took them for a while, because no one thought to reprogram the machines from their last location.

Are we sure this isn't on the DDP? Seems the only reason to open it.

I checked the 27th of December and started the steps of reserving a time. It says "Select Disney Dining Plans Not Accepted". Seems strange to me but so does the added 18% gratuity no matter the size of your party. I'd still give it a try though. I'm hoping it will become available all the time, hopefully for our visit in February.

This menu makes Soup Plantation seem like a Signature restaurant. Nothing on that menu jumps off as anything but freezer to table slop on a steam table.

Eeeks.
Everybody dumps on Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes. I love Sweet Tomatoes. Fresh salad bar ingredients and a decent selection, for a cheap price. Yay! I prefer to make my own salads, anyway.

The soup is a bit too salty for me, but most people wouldn't think that. I've seen people adding salt. Crazy people, IMO. ;)

No, it isn't a nice place, but it's clean and reasonably comfortable. I don't care too much about my surroundings, though. Not a "meal experience" kind of person. Just want to have good food and enjoy the company of whoever is with me. :)

I'm a big fan.

I do get that it isn't what anyone would call a "nice place", though, which I know was your point. Just representing, lol. :)

Actually my DS and DH hate both Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes. My DD and I eat there often. We both like them. My point in the post was lost. It was the menu for this buffet at Disney is horrible for the cost. Souplantation is great for what it, actually better for the cost, but it is not a Signature Dining restaurant. Thus my comment that Disney menu makes Souplantation look like a Signature restaurant.

I was not ragging on Souplantation, I was ragging on an expensive buffet for an inferior menu offers by Disney. Sorry my sarcasm didn't come through the way I intended. :)

Curious. Is there still a quick-serve dining plan? Or maybe that means TiW? (Great, now we're putting more thought into this than was put into the menu.)

Yes the site still says Dining Plans accepted for quick service. I think the buffet is just excluded.

The restaurant does NOT take Tables in Wonderland. I just found this out the hard way. We opted to leave rather than pay full price for this place. For what it's worth, there was a total of 3 parties eating there. Register lady was quite grumpy when I tried to use Tables.

They made you pay before sitting down which seems tacky to me. This is a Disney restaurant, not the Golden Corral. The check should be brought at the conclusion of the meal. Tacky tacky tacky.

I don't think the menu sounds bad at all, but for the price, they need to make it a character meal with jack sparrow or even characters from Peter Pan???

As of yesterday the Tortuga Tavern buffet was ~$45 (it was like $44.99). In comparison Crystal Palace was $40.99.

Are you sure? The price was listed at $35.99 when we went at 5:00, but declined to eat. $35.99 is bad enough, but $44.99 is outrageous!

I'm positive. The signs that the cast members were holding definitely said $44.xx

But thinking back on it. That probably includes tax and tip because there is an 18% autograt. With tax and tip that total on $35.99 comes to $44.80.

It's nice that they are quoting you the out-the-door price, but $44.80 is still way too much for what is being offered.

That makes sense! And it remains outrageous. The buffet didn't look all that good. Glad we passed.
