... STRONG THUNDERSTORMS AFFECTING SOUTHERN ORANGE COUNTY... NORTHWESTERN OSCEOLA COUNTY...
AT 244 AM EST... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A STRONG STORM 14 MILES SOUTHWEST OF ANIMAL KINGDOM... MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.
LOCATIONS IN THE PATH OF THIS STRONG STORM INCLUDE CAMPBELL... LAKE BUENA VISTA... LAKE MARY JANE... AND MAY REACH ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BEFORE WEAKENING.
THE PRIMARY THREAT WILL BE CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES AND GUSTY WINDS OF 45 TO 55 MPH... WHICH CAN CAUSE UNSECURED OBJECTS TO BLOW AROUND... SNAP TREE LIMBS OR CAUSE POWER OUTAGES. HEAVY RAINFALL WILL TEMPORARILY REDUCE VISIBILITY. SEEK SHELTER INDOORS UNTIL THE STORM PASSES.
TORRENTIAL RAINFALL CAN BE EXPECTED... CAUSING TEMPORARY PONDING ON SOME ROADS AND MINOR FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. MOTORISTS SHOULD SLOW DOWN IN HEAVY RAINFALL TO REDUCE THE RISK OF HYDROPLANING AND LEAVE SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN OTHER VEHICLES.

^ It's perfectly fine now; just a very thin line of strong storms yesterday into last night.

I wonder if Disney buildings are built lke other buildings near the coasts. They are designed to blowout the entire interior and leave the structure intact. Scary feeling if you are there and they were designed that way.

Most of the main structures are designed to be `storm proof` - not collapse in a hurricane, and withstand all but a direct EF5.

Some of the major show buildings in Epcot, DHS and DAK are actually hurricane/tornado shelters.

This was just a severe storm warning, I don't think they said anything about a tornado...

Yeah....didn't see the word Tornado anywhere. Perhaps radio or TV gave different reports locally.

How often does central FL get a tornado (or warning)? They're pretty common here in Indiana, but I didn't even know Florida's climate was conducive to them.

We get a lot of them during the spring and summer, spring moreso. If they do touch down it's usually once maybe twice but the last few years the damage seems to have only gotten worse. It's a bit more common for us to have a casualty from a tornado than a hurricane, but then again the last major hurricanes we had around these parts was the triple whammy of '04....we get a lot more warnings than anything. Water spouts are another one that we get often as well especially on the coastal regions.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the info.
