Hi everyone! Quick question. Are there still toppings bars at counter service places for burgers, etc? I remember growing up everywhere that had burgers (Peco's Bill, Pinocchio's which I know serves pizza etc now, Backlot Express, Electric Umbrella) had large toppings bars with everything from pickles, tomato, mustard to sauerkraut and mushrooms and cheese sauce.

I'm thinking the around the last time I was there (2003-04) that they were gone and you just got lettuce, tomato, etc with your burger. Am I crazy? Are these bars still around? Thanks!

They are different in different places.

Pecos Bills is the only place with sauteed onions (I believe) but there are still toppings in many places

Sauerkraut is not normaly on them. In fact, does Caseys have it, or do you pay extra? I think they do have it, chili is extra, maybe. I don't know, I personaly find Casey's hot dogs lacking. I never understood the thrill of an "all beef hot dog" - pork is tasty. Its not like its some lower quality meat or something.

I think Pecos Bills has one of the largest fixins' bar still with the widest variety of options, but like dave said, quite a few that you mentioned still have them.

It's really hit-and-miss when it comes to what is available. In MK, Casey's does have kraut and free cheese sauce. At Cosmic Ray's, they have a full topping bar and have brought back the free cheese sauce as well. (For about a year it wasn't on the topping bar, you had to ask for it for a fee.) Cosmic Ray's has the most items I think followed by Peco's Bills which is almost as complete. Pinocchio's has just condiments since they got rid of their burger offerings a few years ago. The Harbor House offers condiments - including honey mustard - but no "toppings."

Over in Epcot, however, things have gone crappy. Electric Umbrella took away their topping bar when they brought in the do-it-yourself drinks. The up is that you get free refills. The down is that the burgers come loaded and if you don't want that, you have to ask. If you want anything different or special, you're out of luck. The Liberty Inn still has a "topping bar" but it's useless as it has only condiments and lettuce and tomato. You can't even get honey mustard there any more. (You have to get it from the counter.) Which is silly since they sell chicken nuggets there now and a lot of people want honey mustard with them. And if you get a CM who doesn't know better, they'll tell you it's not available at all even though we've gotten it from the counter.

I don't eat quick service at the Studios since it sucks so I can't tell you what they offer recently. (I do know a few years back I asked about cheese sauce and said, "MK offers it" and the CM said very grumpily, "we're not magic kingdom." Oookay. You couldn't even buy it at the time. Don't know if that's changed or not.)

And I'm rarely in AK for meals but off the top of my head, I can't think of any topping bars. I might be wrong though.

Best bet would be Cosmic Ray's or Peco's Bills in MK. They offer the most items and biggest selection.

Agreed on the MK Quick Service restaurants as having the most offerings, thought the AA's topping bar is satisfactorily enough.
Oh, and I prefer the Electric Umbrella with its free refills. I am more of the condiments guy that overloading your burger with veggies. Those wheat buns would fall apart, and it just becomes this one sloppy mess.
If I may ask:

  1. Why are the condiments in MK and some resort hotels so slow? I could be standing there for 5 minutes if filling up 3 cups of bbq, mayo or ketchup. I remember the stations were more efficient.
  2. Anyone know where else you can get the Ken's Honey Dijon Mustard now, if they're still available? I know they were mostly prominent in EPCOT, but they have disappeared from the parks as of my most recent trip.

The Honey Mustard has been starting to pop up again around the parks. The condiment bar in Sunset Ranch and Backlot Express both at the studios have it now, Columbia harbor house at MK has it as well. Have there been any other sightings?

Yeah, I think Electric Umbrella is what I'm remembering back in 04 when I was there not having the full bar anymore and I was bummed. Sounds like I still have plenty of choices to relive my quick service meal of the 90s haha :ROFLOL:

Thanks for the response and such specific info!

Yes - right out in the condiments bar
Cosmic Ray's
Columbia Harbor House
Pinocchio Haus

Sometimes available if you ask at the counter
Liberty Inn

Can't recall either way
Pecos Bills

Been told not available at all
Electric Umbrella

Ironically, I like my burgers plain with just cheese! I don't put any toppings and I don't use honey mustard myself, but Love does with his chicken fingers. So I've had to battle/search/fight for it personally on his behalf!

(And can you tell we eat counter service a lot? Being FL resident AP'ers we just grab quick food 99.99999% of the time!)

We use to go to the Pinocchio Village Haus for the toppings, but now its a pizza place. We go to Peco Bills in MK for the mushrooms and onions.

Topping bars make or break the counter service for me thats why I love Pecos Bills. There's nothing better than piling your burger up with grilled onions, tomato and all the fixins and some good old cheese sauce for the fries.
