Top-10 Popular Aspects Of WDW That I Absolutely HATE

10). Parades
I never bother with the afternoon parades. I don't find them interesting and they do nothing but get in my way most of the time. I like the night ones, but once again the crowds are usually too much of a pain to bother. At least with fireworks the crowds are more spread out across an area.

9). DVC
I have never been bothered by a DVC representative personally. I guess I don't look like their target. I really have no interest in ever getting a time share. I don't want to be locked into a certain hotel wherever I travel.

8). Dole Whip
Its not bad, just needs a little rum.

7). Toy Story Midway Mania
It is not worth the massive wait. I much prefer Space Ranger Spin. Plus I can ride it more than once without waiting forever.

6). Pay-Extra After Hours Events
Never went during Christmas or Halloween to Disney. I went to Universal Horror Nights in Hollywood. I was on a business trip so I couldn't visit during the day and get kicked out early so they could prepare for the haunts. Having to pay so much extra I wouldn't buy a day pass and a haunt pass anyway.

5). High School Musical
Never saw them, never will. I would avoid anything related to them at the parks like the plague.

4). Interactive Games
Never noticed them.

3). Duffy The Disney Bear
Its a bear, its cute, doesn't move me one way or the other.

2). When You Wish Upon A Star
The song makes me sleepy. If only I didn't have to deal with the massive crowds after hearing it before I reach my bed.

1). Working For The Mouse
I already had a job on the boardwalk dealing with stupid tourists. I don't want to have a job like that again. I'd rather just be the stupid tourist. Working at Disney doesn't involve an ancient ritual where Tinkerbell rises from the fire to appoint you with the powers to be forever happy. Plus behind the scenes is never as exciting as you think.

Excellent post, Bob! I agree with much of what you say, except for Dole Whip...freaking LOVE those thing! I own a Dole Whip t-shirt!

Thats the way it used to be from 2008-2010. The last two years have been just as crowded or more so than a normal day in MK. I always attend in late Sept. Last year there were lines for all attractions right up until closing. Now I avoid the attractions and watch the shows.

Interesting. Because the first one we experienced was last October and it was just amazing how smooth everything was. Went in the middle of the month and just walked on rides. We joked the longest we had to wait was when we got to the front of the line and the CM asked how many in our group! We are going again this October. I hope it wasn't a fluke!!

10. Parades - Not a fan either

9. DVC - Yeah I don't get it either, people talk numbers on what a great deal and maybe I am just not seeing it. I love Disney as much as everyone here, but I do want to vacation other places, and don't want to be commited to where Disney wants me to stay.

8. Dole Whip - I did try a dole whip once, not at all a fan

7. Toy Story Midway Mania - My son loves it, so we are one of those crazy families running to it, if it wasn't for him, it would not be on the top of my list.

6. Pay-Extra After Hours Events - Agreed they charge an arm and leg and then to pay for an extra event. Doing the Halloween party this year just to get the experience, will not do the Christmas party ever.

5. High School Musical - Not a fan at all!

4. Interactive Games - Not a fan of this either, guess it's my age

3. Duffy, WHO? No I heard of it, just kidding.

2. When You Wish Upon a Star - I love this song for!

1. Working For the Mouse - If they paid enough maybe it would be a job just like any other.

Why not a top-10 list? Here's one consisting of things at WDW that most people seem to love, that I personally have no desire for. Ranging from rides, events, principles...just anything related to WDW. These are the ones that always leave me scratching my head wondering how they became so dang popular. (And no, this is not a doom & gloom type of thread. I love WDW by all means, and will probably continue to love the place until the day I die....well, except for these things:)

Starting with #10 and moving our way up to the most hated popular WDW thing.

10). Parades
This one barely made the list. And to say I "hate" parades is probably pushing it just a tad. Yes they can be fun to watch if I happen to be at the right place at the right time. But dear lord, observing how people wait for hours to get that perfect spot on the sidewalk, push & fight, etc... for a parade?? Yes I love the Disney characters just as much as the next person, but it's not like it's some sort of massive cash handout taking place on Mainstreet. I've never understood all the excitement surrounding parades. Are they horrible? Of course not. But they definitely are not worth all the hype, waiting, rushing, and pushing many people deem necessary just to see (insert costumed character's name here) ride by briefly while waving.

9). DVC
This is becoming more & more popular it seems. By the way, I'm not knocking the DVC members...just the overall concept behind DVC. To keep this one short and sweet, let's just say I loathe the idea of timeshare with a passion. Whether or not it has been Disneyfied, timeshare is still timeshare. And thanks to....well, to keep from opening up a whole new discussion, I won't mention the company's name here, but yeah, timeshare is evil. (No, not you fine people who buy into it, but the peddler's behind it). If you purchase timeshare and enjoy it, that is fine. To each their own.

8). Dole Whip
Explore any Disney fan site long enough or talk to any Disney faithful, and you will come to believe this magical dessert is some sort of wonder drug. Everyone seems to love this stuff. Personally, I was quite underwhelmed. And as I sit here at the office I can look right across the street and see a "Mom & Pop" custard/ice cream shop that makes offerings 10X better than the overhyped Dole Whip.

7). Toy Story Midway Mania
We all know the ride. We all know what it is. What I don't know is why this ride-thru Nintendo Wii is so stinkin' popular. Yeah it's not the worst several minutes of my life for sure. But the herds of people that rush this thing, the times FP's run out....for this? Maybe the hype is because TSMM is something new that hasn't existed at DHS for the last two decades like most other offerings there. I get that. But the Toy Story trilogy offers so much more potential for a great, quality e-ticket attraction than a ride-thru video game.

6). Pay-Extra After Hours Events
It seems like nowadays it's a right of passage for the true WDW fan to visit MNSSHP or MVMCP during their respective times of the year. I've been to 'em both; once each to be exact. Fun, sure, I'll give you that. But not worth an extra admission price. With a one-day admission ticket topping $90.00 with tax, it's an insult Disney still has to charge extra for these events. Take away the extra cost and include them as part of normal holiday offerings for their season (*gasp* what a concept!), then kudos to Disney. But having them cost extra...I will be doing my part for these events in keeping the lines shorter for everyone else. You're welcome.

5). High School Musical
Aaaaagh, my head! Gah, moving on.

4). Interactive Games
There's no doubt that Sorcerer's Of The Magic Kingdom is catching on like the next Pokemon. People literally selling those "spell cards" on Ebay for insane amounts, people building up strategies, points, or however the hell the things work....ENOUGH! I want my Magic Kingdom back. You know, the one where you could stroll down Mainstreet or through Frontierland without hoards of people by windows waving around playing cards. "Well done, sorcerer! You held up a card in front of a window while Mommy & Daddy looked on taking pictures. You are quite the talented sorcerer..." My head still hurts, let's just move on. (Oh, and Agent P., just because I didn't have time to critique you, doesn't mean you're any less annoying over at World Showcase).

3). Duffy The Disney Bear
(See explanation for #5)

2). When You Wish Upon A Star
"But Bob, how can you say that? That is such a beautiful, classic tune and the theme of what Disney represents."
Bullsquash! The theme of what Disney represents is: "If we can dream it, then we can do it." Meaning, if you have a dream, yes you can achieve it if you work for it. You're not promised that dream come true, but you can if you are willing to work hard enough. That was Walt's legacy.
But what does When You Wish Upon A Star teach us? That if you want something bad enough, all you have to do is look up into the sky and wish on a giant ball of gas millions of miles away, and *presto* it will come true!! Hooray and pixie dust! Why do you think there are so many entitled people running around wanting the world handed to them on a silver platter? Because we brainwash such crap into our children's heads at a young age. Tiana's father in Princess And The Frog tried to clear up some of the false pixie meaning of the classic song when he said: "Wishing upon that star will only get you half of the way...you have to be willing to work hard.." etc). But even he is wrong. It doesn't even get you half of the way. It's a just-for-fun song that has been taken to heart way more than it should, and sparks a false sense of entitlement. Bash away, that's just what I think.

Which leads us to #1...

1). Working For The Mouse
First off, let me clarify that I am not some former/ex WDW CM who harbors bitter feelings, etc. I have never applied for such a job, and I never will. Let me also carify that this is not a stab at people who do work for WDW. I respect what they do, what they put up with, and how they go above & beyond to make sure we enjoy our vacation.
It seems like every Disney fan alive has that ideal dream of packing up, moving to central Fla, working for Disney, and living out their lives in zip-a-dee-do-dah merryment. But there are many reasons why the thought of actually working for WDW is a major turn-off for me personally. To me WDW is an escape. The place is my favorite destination to escape to. Throw in the factor of working there, and it would no longer be an escape. I want the place to always have that special feeling of returning to my "home away from home." I want to enjoy the show, not see what's going on behind the curtain.
I can completely understand why so many people salivate over the thought of working at WDW. Because when you're at WDW, you're having fun; you don't want to leave. You want that magical world to be yours. So how to achieve this? Why, work there, of course. Then it's a trip to WDW every single day!
But the thing is, working for Mickey isn't the same thing as a dream vacation. I know there are many who would disagree, but I always want to enjoy WDW as a destination AWAY from the norm; a nice breath of fresh air from reality.

So that does it for my top-10 list. Feel free to agree/disagree and share your own popular aspects of WDW that you personally don't or wouldn't enjoy.

10. Agree. I just don't get the parade thing anyway.
9. DVC. agree. I don't want to spend every vacation themed disney
8. take or leave. It's just food
7. TSMM. DISAGREE. I really like this ride
6. Agree. Any way they can get your last dallor
5. Agree. It just is in the way. Hate the show too.
4. ? Don't know much about it
3. Agree
2. Disagree. C'mon this is a classic. Gives me goosebumps when I hear it
1. no oppinion. I would like to work there when I retire but I may not even apply when I get old enough.

10). Parades
I could care less about parades except that it is a good time to get in shorter lines for attractions!!!

9). DVC
This can be #8 & 9 IMO...it devalues the experience for the day trippers and regular guests and I think ultimately WDW will suffer in quality due to guaranteed income from membership...but I digress.

7). Toy Story Midway Mania
Fun ride...yes, worth standing in the ridiculous line...no

6). Pay-Extra After Hours Events
I agree with another poster who said it stinks to be handed your hat after paying bug bucks to get into the park

5). High School Musical
I have a nine year old DD...I have developed a wonderful inability to even hear these songs anymore...it might be from the ice picks I jabbed into my ear drums but that is just a guess!

4). Interactive Games
meh...I personally do not care one way or the other....if it keeps the lines down for attractions I am all for it.

3). Duffy The Disney Bear
= money grubbing corporate scheme from knuckleheads not original enough to come up with a mouse on their own.

2). When You Wish Upon A Star
agree to disagree

Which leads us to #1...

1). Dining reservations.
Or more to the point the difficulty in getting them at six months out. This system needs to be tweaked somehow in some way to make this more reasonable.

Great list Bob...thanks for stating what I think many of us are thinking on some level.

Yea maybe October has become more manageable than Sept. Last year I went to MNSSHP last week in Sept and again the first week in Oct . Oct was less busy. This year for the first time I am skipping Sept altogether. I think people have been told so much that Sept is the time to go that it has become the time to avoid.

That's probably true. I bet you right enough people started figuring that September was the route to go and now it's crowded. Hopefully it doesn't switch back to October now!

That's not how DVC works...
I have a relative who has a timeshare in Vegas. The company it is through owns ones all over the world and he can trade his timeshare in Vegas for one in Orlando through them. I was talking about timeshares in general. Not DVC specifically.

Seems to me there are lots of misconceptions out there about how DVC works. It's different than your typical timeshare, and as long as you don't mind going Disney for most or all of your vacay's, it's VERY flexible for both dates and locations.

10.). Parades
I really haven't watched a daytime parade in a long time. I like Night time parades at Disney depending on what parade is showing.

9.). DVC
Never been interested in DVC at all and that is all I am willing to talk about.

8.). Dole Whip
I love Dole Whip, wouldn't be on my top 10 popular Aspects of WDW that I Absolute hate.

7.).Toy Story Midway Mania
I would have put this in the 9 or 10 due to the fact I am able to get a fast pass in a good amount of time. My fast pass time is 1 to 2 hours after I receive the fast past due to when I got to DHS and when I go also. I do see why this is one someone's list. I blame Disney not having enough family friendly rides for why this attraction has a crowd issue.

6.). Pay-Extra After Hours Events
Agree. I think it is a rip off based on the one event I went to. I went to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party a couple years years. I love the parade, the Fireworks, and one of the shows but it is not worth the extra admission that I pay for it.

5). High School Musical
It belongs its spot on the list.

4). Interactive Games
Doesn't bother me.

3). Duffy The Disney Bear
I agree. Duffy was created as a money grabber by cooperate for meet and Greet.

2). When You Wish Upon A Star
I disagree. This a Disney Classic and I remembered this song back when I was kid. I heard this song at least 5 to 7 years before I made my first ever visit to a Disney theme park.

1). Working For The Mouse
I don't know if I would put it this high, but I agree with it being on the list. I never applied for a job at Disney, but friends of my parents have worked for Disney. It sounded liked the magic at WDW was ruined to a point.

Not to mention it can be used on trips all over the world, not just Orlando and Anaheim.

True, but DVC really don't fit where I go when you are not talking about Orlando. I do travel to other places outside of WDW, but the places I go actually is where a DVC does not exist.
I think you missed my point, There's no DVC in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean or hundreds of other places but that doesn't mean you can't use your DVC points to travel there.

I think any family that travels to Disney once or twice a year DVC is a deal. If you go every 2 years its only a good deal if you normally stay in mod or higher resorts. For everyone else DVC is not a deal.

We have been going every other year since 2006. We will be going this year and once more in 2014 but after that DD hits middle school. We pull her out of school for a week to go in October but will cease doing this once she is far enough in school that it really impacts her studies. Once that happens we are not quite sure what we will do but I WILL NOT stand in line during peak season for two hours per ride so I think we may be in a long term hiatus. I am glad we did not do DVC for this reason as crowds + heat = cranky me!

I have also had the dream of moving to central Florida and work for the Mouse...and I can say I love it I work at DTD and it doesnt change how I feel about the parks still love going on a nice cool day and enjoying all that I know about backstage (which can help first time visitors)...I plan on retiring from Disney...
