Toolbar Slowing Down Page Loading

Hiya Steve,

Since you have updated the toolbar on top of the pages (sometime earlier this week)... the forum seems to be very slow going. And once in a great while... I will get a CGI Error.. somthing about HTTP headers missing or something...

Same thing on the home page at www.wdwmagic.com. Its my home page here.... and now it takes forever to load and even when I hit refresh... its takes a while.. now that the animated banner.. and toolbar are there.

I am on IE 6 with all the latest patches... and i have a high speed broadband connection...

With all the other web sites I visit.. I have no problem with pages loading... they all load very fast.

I just took the speed test on the lantek site and here is what I got.

Performance Test Complete: Connection Speed 357Kb/s

Hi there

The problem isn't so much your connection speed as the size of the menu and animated banner is relatively small (30k each). The problem is more due to the speed of your PC.

I have tested on my slowest machine, a Celeron 500MHz, and the menu/banner adds 1.5 seconds onto the page load time. On my faster machines it adds less than 1 second to the load time.

I took this into account before putting the system live, and decided that the benefits outweighed the slight slow down. I am hoping to improve the situation further in the future.

My PC at home takes 4 minutes to load pages sometimes Steve. It hates the .js files in the menu bar. It freezes constantly. I'm posting this despite it taking around 8 minutes in total to load this form and the topic.

Mine is a tad slow, but last night it was running fine... have a feeling my connection is acting up.

Same goes for me too, I was getting use to the slight Lag, but I prefer the extra speed.
