Too much Disney

We go once a year for about 10 days. We are DVC members and do a split stay. Usually half the trip we stay somewhere we have stayed before and the other half we try a new resort. This year we are trying two new ones, Poly and BWV. Our DD is 17 and we try to do something extra that gets us excited. Last year, we did the Segway tour at Fort Wilderness. This year, we are doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour and DD is getting her senior pictures taken at Epcot. So to me, it's never boring and there is always something to look forward to.

My wife and I discussed this because for the first time in our lives we are going to WDW twice in the same year. Usually we've gone either every other year, or every 3-4 years. Now that we have a young one I think it's easier to justify going but I think we will go back to our spacing out trips there.

Our reasoning is this:
1. Money. It's great to go, but we like saving up so we can do those extra special meals/deluxe rooms/etc.
2. Attractions. I remember around the time ToT was first opening that we hadn't been to WDW in 2 years, knowing that a new ride was opening really was fun to look forward to.
3. Timing. Once our daughter starts going full time to school and the associated school breaks it will be tougher to plan trips when the crowd tide is low. Even my dad mentioned that when I was in school and 'fall breaks' were a new thing that Disney in October was super empty. Now, not so much
4. Ticket Prices. Going every so often you don't realize just how much the annual price hike affects your planning. Going twice in one year people were telling us we should have just bought AP's. Now that non-exp isn't an option it does play into our planning to space out and take longer trips over more frequent, shorter trips.

I've often wondered if this does actually happen. My family and I are planning a 7 day stay at WDW next spring, and I'm a bit apprehensive that a week may be too much, even though we all love it there. I'm thinking that, if we don't spend every minute of all 7 days at the parks, ie maybe one day just relaxing at the resort, maybe some time at DTD, that will kind of break it up a bit. I guess a week would also give us time to see/do things that we have never experienced on a 3 day stay previously. Then again-riding HM or SM over and over is OK with me ;).

When I lived in Orlando, absolutely. We went back about a year after moving up north and it's amazing how comparatively fresh it felt. Part of that is because it was my daughter's first trip (four months old at the time). Our plan is to go once a year from now on.

As funny as that is, I actually am curious what people think.

Even on just one long trip, I absolutely do get tired of individual rides, the food options at Magic Kingdom, the prices everywhere, and the inconveniences of crowds, transportation, etc. I never get sick of Wishes, Celebrate the Magic, or the general Disney World ambiance. On the other hand, Mr. CBs never gets sick of rides (which is how I know that I do). ;)

The more trips we take, though, the more excited I am about anything new. Thus, our first trip was amazing because it was full of exploration. The second one was really fun, but the best parts were MNSSHP and F&W, because they were new, and so on. I now make it a point to plan specific new experiences every time - I'm glad WDW is so big!

Aside from the pleasure of the trip itself, I think the best part of going regularly is that we never feel pressured to cram things in. Refurbs aren't upsetting and if we can't do something on one trip, we just put it off until the next one. It takes some stress out of it all. It's also not difficult to go home at the end of a trip, because we know we'll be back before too long.

We went twice in 2014. Ten months apart. We even booked another trip for January 2015 before we took the second trip. We were so excited for trip #2, but then landed and thought, "Wow. It feels like we were JUST here."

At first I was nervous that this familiarity would ruin the trip, but we ended up having an amazing time. And we made sure to try new experiences so the trip felt like a mixture of stuff we knew we'd love and stuff we ended up loving. And we always are sure to leave something we want to do for next time.

We still canceled that January trip, though. ;)

We come to Orlando for 3 weeks every year but stay off property. We get AP's and out of the 21 days we probably visit Disney about 16 times. These aren't all full day visits though, very few are. Instead many are for a few hours or sometimes just for a 1/2 hour or so ice cream stop at the Studios if we're passing on the way home. We come again this year in October and we're looking forward to it again, I can't see us ever tiring of it really as we're so comfortable and familiar with it.

To be honest!!!!.....no we never get enough Disney !!! Never!!! Seriously it's a place we go and our crazy jobs aren't making us move and do things faster than we are programmed to do , but it is sad it's only a week a year that we smile all day !!! Lol

How exactly is too much Disney defined? We are Dvc and have gone at least 1x a year (10-14days) for around 16 years. There comes a point that the parks become too much. We have stayed on property a few times and and never stepped foot in the 4 main parks...enjoyed the resorts and restaurants. Sometimes we've stayed andvisited only non-disney parks. We prefer to stay at either AKV, SSR, or OKW because they are beautiul resorts that are not dripping in PIxie Dust and "too much Disney". This is just my family's experience.

Living so close to the WDW property there is a bit of disconnect between when I’m going to Disney vs. “I’M GOING TO DISNEY!”.

At least twice a week I’m going to be driving through the property. I see plenty of attractions from the road, I can see the tops of fireworks if I’m driving home late nights, if I get stopped at the right traffic light at the right time I can roll down my window and hear Fantasmic. And in all of that I almost never FEEL like I’m at Disney. I can pop in a park to buy presents during a parade and exit all while feeling like it’s a time consuming errand I’m running*.

There is a vastly different experience when I’m GOING to Disney. Regardless of how many times I’ve been recently I am often excited even if my plans include nothing more than people watching, streetmosphere, and some ice cream. On average I likely GO to Disney 40 to 45-ish days out of 365, about half on my own and half with other locals, out of town friends or relatives on vacation, or me taking the niblings there. At times I do get the feeling of “too much” but it’s often directed at individual aspects rather than the overall Disney feel itself. (This place would be so great if it wasn’t for all the tourists!)

I am in somewhat of odd situation and I could very easily imagine getting burnt-out on Disney over long trips to close together. Rarely do I spend more than 2 back-to-back days in park, I don’t even think I could do a 4+ day trip anymore.

*This really happened to me last weekend. I have people I know that collect the Starbucks You Are Here Mugs. I hit DHS right when the SWW motorcade was going on … I could have not timed it worse if I tried.

I myself never get tired of Disney trips. But, my wife does. We are moving to Florida just so I can get a annual pass and go down on weekends when I want, and she can hang out with her family if she isn't feeling a theme park that day. I also make sure to go to uni, sea world, Busch Gardens, or wherever as to spend time with her. That doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy it at the world...she just gets tired of it quick. I'm just glad we don't spend every weekend in town doing the same old thing!

I've been to Disney World for 13 separate trips in a 20 year span, so I grew up with going to Disney World, so I guess that I'll never "tire" of it. Though I guess the excitement of going to Disney World has been replaced with repeating nostalgic memories and visiting sites that are important to me (watching Illuminations in a particular spot is crucial for the very same nostalgic reason). I have vivid memories of my own father introducing me to various rides in Disney and that is something that I hope to do in the future if I ever have my own children.

When I next go to Disney World next year, it will have been 5 years since my last trip, so at this point I'm absolutely pumped! In my current mood of excitement I'd even ride IASW all day!

we're from Quebec ,it's a very long drive ,about 28 hrs ,so each year since 2008,we're there for 2 weeks in july and 2 weeks in december . so if we were closer to the park we would be there more often .
I lived, for 63 years, within 30 miles of the Quebec border, and still drove and never stayed for two weeks. I doubt I would go more often if I lived across the road from the entrance. I still love the place, but, a little goes a long way for me.

I go at least twice a month. Don't always hit the parks. Sometimes I'll go just to get a drink at the bar. It's fine as long you don't do the same thing EVERY time.

We never tire. We just went in December and are already saying how we want to go back....It's something about the music, the smells, the rides, the joy. There's no words.

Honestly, sometimes the shows do get stale when I see them too often: Indy, B&B, Little Mermaid, etc but that's when we skip them and usually do them every now and then.

I feel like there are worse problems that being bored with Disney cause you visit too often. Kind of hard to complain...

we did each fall from '12-'14 and all three trips were exciting and felt different and fresh. that's at testament to how much there is to do at WDW.

this year we're not going, by choice. trying to keep it fresh and save some money. much easier said than done; when the promotions for dining/discounts came out over the last couple weeks i was THAT close to pulling the trigger. we're aiming at fall of '16 already.

what i'm saying is, it hasn't gotten old for me yet at all, although taking a little time off does bring some of the excitement/aura back to it.

For me personally, no. This upcoming trip in July-Augsut will be my 15th andmy husband's 4th. We are from Philly so not close at all... but I always say I wish we had the money to go every 3 months. Went twice in 2013, 2014, and this will be our second trip of 2015. My husband says we can keep going every year with the kids...but he wants a ''relaxing'' vacay just for us yearly too..In the end I'll do what I want lol...no...but serioulsy...he's a good sport...he knows what DW means to me.
