Too Excited to Wait!

Ok, so I just had my lil one a few months ago And I'm already thinking about when his first trip to WDW should be. I was thinking about waiting until he is *almost 3* for his first trip, that way he is still free (kids are still free at that age right?) my question is what do you think? Is that a good age?

I took both of my kids when they were younger than that and those were great trips. So why wait that long? We have great memories of when my daughter was 2. My son was 1 for one trip and it was a blast.

It's really a question of are you doing the trip for you or them? When they are really young, the trip is more for you and seeing them in your happy place. As they get older, it becomes for them and their memories and creating a happy place.

Tomorrow. I used to be in the camp of waiting until they're a bit older, around 5 or 6, but forget that. My wife is due towards the end of October and we already have a trip planned for the end of January.

It should be interesting, as our teens will be 15 and 14 and then we'll have the newborn.

Completely agree!! We first took my son for his 2nd birthday. Years later he does not remember a thing but the DH and I have the memories and all of the pictures.

I took my son when he just turned one and he could hardly do anything and was so cranky, cried at all the character. Went for a one night stay back in April when visiting fam in south florida with my kids who were 3 1/2 (son) and 1 1/2 (daughter) and they were great! Going in October when they'll be 4/2. Thanks!! Now another question. When we do decide to go do we stay at a monorail resort (Contemporary) for easier transportation as we're not huge bus people since DH gets motion sick from them or do we stay at a kid friendly themed resort (AKL)? I figure with a lil one we'll be at the resort more for naps, downtime and swimming so it's an important decision...

We stayed at Contemporary last time and are staying there again in October. Others will say it's not as "themed". But I love it, it's my style, and how can you beat the location with young ones? Plus, most of our time is spent at the MK anyways.

I figured that's where we will be too! I've stayed there before and love it too!

We took both my boys when they were 4. Both trips were great and we felt that it was the perfect age for them.

We took our oldest daughter when she was weeks away from her 3rd birthday, and it was great timing for us. In fact, we're doing the same thing with her little sister in Feburary! For us, it was great that she was down to one consistent nap, so we just took an afternoon break everyday. And she *loved* it (once she figured out that she did indeed have to take her nap!).

We were down in the Orlando area for several months when DD 2 was an infant and the older one was 3 1/2. We went to WDW for a few day trips.....honestly it was a bit miserable for the baby. I felt really bad because she was quite heat intolerant. Thank goodness for air conditioned Baby Centers! That's where she and I spent most of one day! I had the opportunity to take DD 1 for a day and leave DH and baby at home...that day was much better for all of us.....
Having said that, only you know your family and baby. I do know how very hard it is to wait for a WDW trip! For us, knowing our daughter, we decided to wait and go for that 3rd birthday again.

And if you can afford a monorail resort, go for it! You will love the convenience with a little one.

We waited until our youngest was 6. He was tall enough then to ride all the rides and did. Our children could have cared less about the "kiddy" rides. I don't believe they ever went on rides like Peter Pan and they had no interest. But everyone is different.

First time for our little one was when she was 6 months old... Just came back 2 weeks ago from a long weekend and she was 18 months old and we're going in February for a week and she'll be a week away from turning 2 years... I plan to take her back next summer too. We can't get enough. No trip is ever the same. Go as soon as you can! You won't regret it!

We took my daughter when she was 2 1/2, and she loved it. We didn't take my son when he was six months with us because we wanted another memory making trip with just our daughter, and we had parents willing and able to take him for a week. But, my brother has taken his newborns on 2 trips. I think you need to be mindful of when you go if you're going to go with a newborn because I don't think it's particularly safe for them if the heat is crazy. But, other than that, there are plenty of things to do with them. My brother just put the kiddos in the baby bjorn, and they did all of the classics - IASW, Peter Pan, etc. They obviously had to hand the babies off for bigger rides, but on both trips my parents or my sister-in-law's parents went with them so they had plenty of baby-keepers. They also became experts at parent-swapping
