Tony's Restraurant - Breakfast

Growing up I remember always having a fabulous breakfast at the crystal palace before starting our day at the MK. It was beautiful and classy yet unpretentious; not to mention the great food. Then when the Crystal Palace became a character dining experience we moved on to Tony's Restaurant (b/c we were just not into the new character dining thing and it had a similar ambiance). Loved it!!! But now it appears that Tony's doesn't serve breakfast at all!

PLEASE correct me if I am wrong!

If unable, can someone point me in the direction of a similar non-character breakfast experience at or near the Magic Kingdom? It is beginning to seem like if you do not have screaming children you do not qualify for a pleasant morning meal at Walt Disney World.

Tony's actually serves breakfast for grand gatherings - with characters - on certain days. Not open to the general public.

I always liked Kona Cafe for breakfast.

It does seem that a ton of places are not just going to the character meal thing. As a parent it is good as it will give you time to eat if your children are less apt to want to leave.

I wish the Crystal Palace was back to it's old self though as I loved that place and we did a character meal there on our last trip it was just ok. There were only 4 characters and we only saw each one once. We basically sat around waiting for them each to come so we could leave.

The Polynesian is a good place to grab breakfast though and you can take the monorail right over afterwards.

I miss Tony's too for a nice quiet breakfast, yummy cinnamon rolls. You would think with attendance up this year they would reopen it for breakfast. The Grand Floridian Cafe is also nice for breakfast. No Pooh in your face there:lol: !!

I would suggest taking in an early breakfast at Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. My mom and I like to eat here at least twice during our stay and if you have a 7:30 or so seating it's usually pretty quiet and not a lot of kids running around and the usual restaurant hijinks don't tend to start until later (the pony express races etc), except your waitstaff can still do some funny things. Also the Wilderness Lodge is a boat ride away from MK. You can either take the resort launch to the Contemporary and walk/monorail to MK or you can wait for the MK launch that comes around.

We do a few character breakfast's but we need a break every now and then. The Poly has a good option- Kona Cafe. They have this amazing french toast that they call Tonga Toast. Plus, with it being so accessible through the resort monorail you can hop on and be there in no time and then be at MK shortly after paying for the meal :)
I also know Grand Floridian Cafe has breakfast, but I have only eaten there for lunch. If it is the same quality as the lunch, it will be well worth it.
The cafe at the Wilderness Lodge does not have the convenience of the monorail but the breakfast is good and entertaining without the characters. So if you want a few laughs and an interesting waiter/waitress, this would be a good choice.

Count me in as voting for the Kona Café over the Whispering Canyon! I love the tonga toast and the atmosphere is much, MUCH more relaxing than the frenzy over at the WL... Especially if you ask for ketchup! ;)

However, if you want more of an "all you care to eat" menu, then go over to the WL for breakfast! Be warned, however, that the boat ride isn't nearly as fast as the monorail for getting you back to the MK in a hurry!! The boat from the WL stops at Fort Wilderness on the way to the MK (although sometimes it does a direct trip in the morning) and can sometimes take a while if it does...

Actually if you go to Whispering Canyon when it opens in the morning it's a lot more subdued than when it gets later in the morning. Also it's a lot faster to catch the resort launch to the Contemporary then take the walkway to MK.

Mimi, another one to take into consideration is the Trail's End Buffet at Fort Wilderness. It has the same method of transport to MK as Wilderness Lodge and it's supposed to be one of the best breakfast spots.

Yes Disney has ruined Tony's (And the Crystal Palace) as wonderful breakfast spots for us. I'm sure the character meals are quite popular otherwise they wouldn't be doing them and I can see that. But it's a shame that we can't get a nice breakfast in the parks without buffets and characters. We used to love going to Hollywood and Vine too. But now we either just eat some cereal at the room or eat something small at the resort food court. I too wish that they would change Tony's, Crystal Palace, and Hollywood and Vine back to normal breakfast offerings, but I don't expect Disney to change them back because the character offerings are obviously good business for them.

Count us in on those who mis Tony's breakfast! You know whats funny is, my girls are the ones who really fell in love with having a special breakfast at Tony's. we loved being able to enjoy a nice breakfast after an early entry. we all got to calm down, relax and enjoy our meal with out jumping up for autographs and photo ops every few minutes (NOT that we don't LOVE character breakfasts we always do a few each trip) but it was nice being able to talk about our morning and update our plans for the day. We MISS Tony's!

Tony's breakfast was reopened a couple of years ago for Magical Gatherings groups only, when Disney started the Magical Gatherings for large groups. The characters at Tony's for breakfast include (as far as I know), Mickey plus four random characters that vary from day to day.

Just thought you'd like to know! :animwink:

It is not in the MK, but the Concourse Steakhouse in the Contemporary is a great place for breakfast. My husband and I go there every time we visit WDW. It is close enough to Chef Mickeys that you can see Mickey if you want to, but far enough away to be more than arm's length from all of the screaming kids, especially if you don't have any yourself.
