Trip Report #tonyfromspain: A Prophet Surf ‘N Turf story

Whelp, now that the Freestyle/Greco season is over, I’ve completed my course setup for my summer class, and I’ve finished my laundry I can kick this beast off!

!!!DISCLAIMER!!!

For those overly sensitive to satirical sass, poor spelling, and overall weak grammar then please feel free to excuse yourself now because all bets are off from here on forward… As @Zipitidoda would say, there are plenty of prophetisms to come.

Still here? Swell!

Most of the backstory can be found here How to celebrate a proper 20/40 in just 18 months.... For those suffering from krikosophobia (I’ll let you stew on that one), the long and short of it is that we’ve been planning this trip for over 18 months and we are celebrating our 20th anniversary and our 40th birthdays since they both occur this year! I have mentioned that one of us has yet to hit that milestone and the other is indeed a full 40? I can tell you who still 39 but that would just lack class…it’s me…I’m still 39 and she’s older me! ;):D Anywho, there will be some park visiting, WDWMagic member meetup, and a 7-night cruise in this TR.

Anyway, this journey starts out with a late flight out of the busiest airport in America. We worked to late afternoon and drove down the northern most Marta station. We took Marta down to ATL thinking this would not only save us money on parking, which it did, but also time since Hotlanta has some of the worst traffic, ever. Sadly, we didn’t win the “saving time” game as about half way down a train on the same track broke down causing some delays that put us at the airport less than 2 hours before our flight. We quickly checked our bags and waded through security. We had planned on having a nice sit down meal at the airport but settled for Jersey Mikes since we were now time strapped.

Unfortunately, 24 hours prior to our flight we forgot to log into Southwest and complete precheckin and we ended up with a real late boarding group. I was legitimately concerned we would not be sitting together on this trip but thankfully we found a pair of seats together near the rear of the plane. I’ll let the DW speak to how this affected her trip. IMO this was one of the BEST flight experiences we’ve had! The head attendant seemed like he was classically trained in the Jungle Cruise Skipper arts and was VERY entertaining. There were no issues with our flight at all! We even got to see the HEA fireworks as we approached MCO! As we made our descent we were notified that it was one of the attendants birthday and a request was made for all of us to turn our flight attendant lights. We all followed the request and they then turned off the cabin lights as we all sang happy birthday to the birthday boy. He then “blew out his candles” as we all turned off the lights as he blew, a very cool experience! As we disembarked I, of course, had to get a photo with the birthday boy and his crown!

IMG_2273.JPG

We took the MCO monorail to the main hub and collected our bags. We were flying later than normal and I didn’t want to leave bag pickup and delivery to the Disney folks because I didn’t want to be woken up at 1am when our bags got delivered to our room. Our luggage was on the carousel quickly but I got us turned around and took a small detour before we finally made it to the DME queue:

IMG_2274.JPG

Thankfully they opened another line up and we were quickly waiting in our bus queue. There must have been a slew of cheer and or teen events going on this week because the DME lines were chalk full of rowdy teens and inappropriately dressed 7 year olds. Soon we were on our bus with about 12 other people but then just sat there for at least 15 minutes. We waited and waited and then, all of a sudden, a mass of teen conventioneers with a few parent chaperones walked on and filled up the remaining seats. Finally we pulled away with the notice that we would be hitting POR first before making our way to the POLY. It wasn’t long before were in the bubble! We unloaded our teen patrons and made for what should have been a short trip to the POLY but the Mouse’s road construction turned it into an almost 30 minute drive! We finally arrived at the Polynesian sometime between 11:30 and midnight!

Still to come: Our room!

Day 8 Heading "home":

Like every night before, we slept like a rock and woke early! By the time we woke up we weer already docking at Port Canaveral. The weather was beautiful too.

Normally we drive to the port for each cruise and end up eating the early breakfast to get right off the boat when customs clears us. Since we were utilizing Disney transportation this cruise we could take things slower and watch the "first off the ship" madness unfold from afar. So far, in fact, that we chose to have breakfast at Cove Cafe rather than one of the dining rooms. Each trip we get a Cove Cafe coffee card, where after 5 or 6 you get the next one free. This was the first cruise where we were able to get a free one! We relaxed in the cafe enjoying our drinks and pastries until it was time to board our bus.

Soon it was time make for home. We loaded up on our transort and made for the bubble.

IMG_2867.JPG

Room wasn't ready so we checked our gear in with bell services.
IMG_2866.JPG

It was string to drizzle a little bit and we decided to play a little Disney bus roulette and the winner was.
IMG_2868.JPG

I vote Stingray.
Ya know what, you may be right! How fitting would that be too considering our M&G at CC that day

Day 8 cont:

We made it to HS in no time. There was a light drizzle still happening and we were without ponchos but that was just fine.

We walked around for a bit and did some window shopping and began talking about lunch ideas. HS might be our least favorite food park with one exception, Baseline Tap House! This is probably the best addition HS has seen in years and one of the main reasons we come to this park. We shared a pretzel and a meat & cheese board along with a Black Marlin Porter and a Angel City IPA. The IPA was ok but I preferred the porter. Another thing that BTH has going for it is the rotating taps. We've been here on four different trips and there has been something new on draft each time, now If Nomad Lounge could follow suit.

IMG_2872.JPG

After lunch we pretty much decided we were done with HS and decided to head over to EC to grab the kid some gifts. As we were walking out it hit me, "We didn't ride anything!" and you know what, we were just fine with that. It was nice just walking around, relaxing and not feeling the need to do anything. As we approached the EC bus we noticed the gondola progress.
IMG_2875.JPG

IMG_2876.JPG

We had just missed the EC but were able to hop on the YC bus and entered EC via the IG. We grabbed a little selfie along the way.

Day 8 cont:

We entered EC an banged a right towards France. We knew the kid like herself some Japanese gear so we headed in that direction. We pulled into Morocco first just in case they had anything unique she may like. We actually found this pretty cool camel shirt I thought she would enjoy but the DW overruled it and we pressed on to fangurl town.
IMG_2879.JPG

IMG_2880.JPG

We ended up getting her a hodgepodge of Japanese jun..joy. We did good in the end because she liked what we picked out.
IMG_2912.JPG

We forged ahead and as we came upon Norway we noticed that Geir was home so we stopped in to say hi and speak to how much we enjoy his fragrances. Dude is FIT!(sorry about the shaky selfie)
IMG_2881.JPG

IMG_2882.JPG

Since EC is now in an endless food & something mode the DW was able to enjoy another rose margarita before we made for the entrance.
IMG_2883.JPG

We couldn't leave, though, as we had not picked up a pin to commemorate the trip. Apparently while we were on the boat the internet was loosing its over a limited addition DVC pin with stitch on it and of course the DW had to had one. We struck out at HS but the EC pin shop had plenty. We also grabbed the current passholder pin as well.
IMG_2884.JPG

IMG_2885.JPG

IMG_2886.JPG

Now we could leave since the pin itch was scratched! Once again, another park of just looking around and no riding and we were just fine with that. We hopped on the monorail with MK as our endgame.

Besides the sweet balcony one of the main reasons we liked room 8188 was its proximity to the adult entertainment and Cabanas. We could get to either really quick via stairs or elevator and when you see how we do breakfast you will see why this was important to us!

We ended up taking the stairs down too excited to wait for the elevator. Our excitement was completely warrented!

I know I'm late to the party here, but is the Mcgi

So our boarding group was called. We queued up an tapped our key to be allowed on the boat. We were immediately herded to the picture op before finally making it to the atrium. Now, if you’ve followed along on any of our other SnT trips you know what’s happening next. For those not in the know, on our first DCL trip a few years ago we decided to have some fun and make up a name for them to call out as they introduce the families as they enter the boat. It stuck and this marks the 6th appearance of the McGillicuttys

As is also tradition we immediately made for Cabanas for some food. Not many pictures of the restaurant at this time but more will come. Cabanas is pretty much the same from boat to boat, though. View attachment 288130

As we were seating we noticed you can see NASA from the boat!

And some other things
View attachment 288129

While at Cabanas I went ahead and picked up the only missing ingredient for my Castaway Cocktail, POG juice:

AS we were finishing up our food the announcement was made that the rooms were ready!

Still to come: 8188, Pluto, and beer!

I know i'm super late to the party here, but I have to ask. Is the McGillicutty name a reference to a fake name used in an old Disney Movie?

Better late than never! No, it's not in reference to a Disney movie. We have background on this name in a trip report (@lostpro9het may remember which one), but basically we were at the guard shack at a resort at Disney and the guard didn't even look up our information. When driving away, we said something like we could have been the McGuillicutty's for all he knew.

I'm a child of the eighties/nineties but my favorite movies as a kid were the old Disney Davy Crockett series from back in the fifties. In "Davy Crockett and the River Pirates" Crockett and Fink are trying to trick the pirates into thinking they are bankers with a boatload of Spanish gold to entice an attack. The alias they use for the banker is J.J. McGuillicuddy (I just googled and found the script and realized it was actually spelled different). I hadn't thought of that in years but it was the first thing that popped in my head when I saw you made up a name for your entrance. By the way if anyone remembers back when the "Bertha Mae" and the "Gully Whummper" keel boats still circled Tom Sawyer Island that was a reference to that movie.

Day 5 St. Thomas, cont:

It was getting to be late afternoon and the ship would be setting sail soon so we made for our room to watch as we departed St. Thomas. The weather was still beautiful out and we had high hopes for our day at sea tomorrow.

It was closing in on 6:00 and tonight's live show was Aladdin. Neither of us are huge Aladdin fans by any means but the live action genie, who made several appearances during the cruise, was worth it alone.
View attachment 297368

We went all highfalutin with our theater snacks...port wine and Lays, pinkies up!
View attachment 297367

We scored some keepsakes during the show too! We're still calculating their value in Shrute bucks.

Day 8 cont:

A pleasant monorail ride later and we were at MK!
IMG_2887.JPG

IMG_2888.JPG

We had a FP at SM that was burning a hole in our pocket but I talked the DW into CoP ride since we skipped it on our trip in April. We ended up having a most unusual trip though progress. The ride broke down about 3 times getting us stuck between multiple scenes.
IMG_2889.JPG

IMG_2892.JPG

We exited CoP and made for our SM FP when we got the message that our room was ready! We quickly got our SM on and decided to head for our room.
