Trip Report #tonyfromspain: A Prophet Surf ‘N Turf story

Whelp, now that the Freestyle/Greco season is over, I’ve completed my course setup for my summer class, and I’ve finished my laundry I can kick this beast off!

!!!DISCLAIMER!!!

For those overly sensitive to satirical sass, poor spelling, and overall weak grammar then please feel free to excuse yourself now because all bets are off from here on forward… As @Zipitidoda would say, there are plenty of prophetisms to come.

Still here? Swell!

Most of the backstory can be found here How to celebrate a proper 20/40 in just 18 months.... For those suffering from krikosophobia (I’ll let you stew on that one), the long and short of it is that we’ve been planning this trip for over 18 months and we are celebrating our 20th anniversary and our 40th birthdays since they both occur this year! I have mentioned that one of us has yet to hit that milestone and the other is indeed a full 40? I can tell you who still 39 but that would just lack class…it’s me…I’m still 39 and she’s older me! ;):D Anywho, there will be some park visiting, WDWMagic member meetup, and a 7-night cruise in this TR.

Anyway, this journey starts out with a late flight out of the busiest airport in America. We worked to late afternoon and drove down the northern most Marta station. We took Marta down to ATL thinking this would not only save us money on parking, which it did, but also time since Hotlanta has some of the worst traffic, ever. Sadly, we didn’t win the “saving time” game as about half way down a train on the same track broke down causing some delays that put us at the airport less than 2 hours before our flight. We quickly checked our bags and waded through security. We had planned on having a nice sit down meal at the airport but settled for Jersey Mikes since we were now time strapped.

Unfortunately, 24 hours prior to our flight we forgot to log into Southwest and complete precheckin and we ended up with a real late boarding group. I was legitimately concerned we would not be sitting together on this trip but thankfully we found a pair of seats together near the rear of the plane. I’ll let the DW speak to how this affected her trip. IMO this was one of the BEST flight experiences we’ve had! The head attendant seemed like he was classically trained in the Jungle Cruise Skipper arts and was VERY entertaining. There were no issues with our flight at all! We even got to see the HEA fireworks as we approached MCO! As we made our descent we were notified that it was one of the attendants birthday and a request was made for all of us to turn our flight attendant lights. We all followed the request and they then turned off the cabin lights as we all sang happy birthday to the birthday boy. He then “blew out his candles” as we all turned off the lights as he blew, a very cool experience! As we disembarked I, of course, had to get a photo with the birthday boy and his crown!

We took the MCO monorail to the main hub and collected our bags. We were flying later than normal and I didn’t want to leave bag pickup and delivery to the Disney folks because I didn’t want to be woken up at 1am when our bags got delivered to our room. Our luggage was on the carousel quickly but I got us turned around and took a small detour before we finally made it to the DME queue:

IMG_2274.JPG

Thankfully they opened another line up and we were quickly waiting in our bus queue. There must have been a slew of cheer and or teen events going on this week because the DME lines were chalk full of rowdy teens and inappropriately dressed 7 year olds. Soon we were on our bus with about 12 other people but then just sat there for at least 15 minutes. We waited and waited and then, all of a sudden, a mass of teen conventioneers with a few parent chaperones walked on and filled up the remaining seats. Finally we pulled away with the notice that we would be hitting POR first before making our way to the POLY. It wasn’t long before were in the bubble! We unloaded our teen patrons and made for what should have been a short trip to the POLY but the Mouse’s road construction turned it into an almost 30 minute drive! We finally arrived at the Polynesian sometime between 11:30 and midnight!

Still to come: Our room!

Day 6 at sea:

I woke bright and early as per usual. I most happy to see the sights that I did.

This was a great omen for us today and our plans. We were set on a full day of pool time today and this, of course was contingent on weather and today's was PERFECT! Knowing what we do about great weather and days at sea we opted to change up our morning routine today. Rather than call for room service for breakfast we decided to toss on our bathing suits, grab our gear and head up to Cabanas for some to-go plates. We knew the adult loungers would fill up fast and wanted to get a jump on them. We grabed some grub and some coffee and made our camp for the day.
IMG_2780.JPG

We had great seats and this was pretty much our view for the next six hours.
IMG_2781.JPG

Of course I made sure to mix up some Castaway Cocktail for the day too.

Day 6 at sea:

After many hours of pool time we decided move to O'Gills for some trivia. We stopped by our stateroom first to pic up some libations from our stash first. Today I tried the V Twin Lager from Motorworks Brewing. My Untappd notes read 3/5 basic lager no frills.
IMG_2783.JPG

To wash that down I moved on to the LeBrown James by Honky Tonk Brewing. My Untappd notes read 4/5 Tastes like alcohol! A decent brown I'd repeat.
IMG_2784.JPG

Today's game was a movie soundtrack trivia. You can see here that the DW went with a ShockTop. We finished top 3 in the trivia but we also didnt bring our A-game.
IMG_2785.JPG

After trivia we decided to get a caffeine/sugar infusion at Cove Cafe.
IMG_2786.JPG

We did some shopping and walked around the boat for a bit and it was getting to be late afternoon and realized we hadn't eaten lunch today! While we cold have gotten a decent lunch from Cabanas or something on deck we decided to snack a little more in our room and ordered an 'All hands on deck" a couple cookies and some long overdue Mickey bars! Just a reminder, Mickey bars delivered to your room on a boat for free...

Adequately sugared up we made for the Walt Disney Theater for some magic before dinner. I must admit, never heard of this guy before tonight but he was excellent.

Day 6 at sea:
Tonight's rotational dining was at Royal Court. Tonight was also lobster night. Folks were loosing their minds of lobster today but not being a big fish guy it was just another dinner for me. We started off with bread service and dip.
IMG_2791.JPG

IMG_2790.JPG

DW went with the eggplant roll and soup
IMG_2792.JPG

IMG_2795.JPG

I went with the parm and prosciutto as well as the salad
IMG_2793.JPG

IMG_2794.JPG

For mains the DW couldn't pass up on the lobster tail.
IMG_2798.JPG

I went with the duck breast
IMG_2799.JPG

Mine was excellent! To close out our dining they brought out a birthday cake since they knew what we were celebrating this trip as well as the lava cake a la mode.

We had plans for bourbon tasting tonight and were coming up on time so we said our goodbyes to Team Nashville and Team Buffalo and made our way to Meridian.

Just got done binge reading your report so I'm all caught up! Looks like you guys are having an awesome time so far. I have always tried to convince the hubs that we need to go on a Disney cruise, but he is deathly afraid of Poseidon  I told him about the beer exchange, and we now have the all clear! Can't wait to read about the rest of the trip!

Isn't it funny how a little beer exchange changes everything. Mine had the same reaction.

I do apologize about the delay. It has been the perfect storm of me getting my kicked between the college class I teach coming to the end of the semester and the start of the k-12 school year. Teachers...why must you move your desk and wall mounted projector to every different corner of the room each semester!?!?

ANYWAY... I left off with us heading to our bourbon tasting in Meridian lounge. We were here a few days before for the behind the scenes tour. The lounge is beautiful but keep in very low light so we'll focus on the bourbon. We were seated around the room and our hosts delivered the goods and took a good amount of time going into great detail of teh different varietes presented to us.

From left to right we have:
Buffalo Trace: It was strong on the front end and smooth with vanilla notes on the back end.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked: I got banana on the nose and it was smoother than the Buffalo trace. After a sip I started smelling the India scene from Soarin. DW was smelling/tasting boiled peanuts...just yuck.
Duke Bourbon Whiskey: Smoothest sipper so far and also smells like the India scene from Soarin.
Jack Daniels Sinatra Select: Very smooth with a lot of wood on the back end. At this point I just couldn't not smell Soarin over CGI India.

We had a great time at the tasting and would do it again. We left "very happy".

We made our back to the state room, just two flights of stairs down! We saw Tri's creation and then hit the bed, we got Castaway Cay tomorrow!

With those four pours I wouldn't have made it off the elevator. :)
You just gotta believe! You could have made it, at least you'd be very happy trying.
What exactly is that supposed to be? I see the blue eyes (chocolate), but no clue what the rest of the towel creation is. I guess you have to give Tri points for being creative. :joyfull:
No idea!
Oh man, R would LOVE that bourbon tasting. We get the first two at home quite a bit, especially Buffalo Trace because it's on the cheaper end. And yeah, I would be "very happy" after sharing just two of those :joyfull: Not sure I'd be able to walk after all four.
We are just breaking into the bourbons and whiskeys and are really liking them. Currently have some Thomas Jefferson's Bourbon and some Jameson Stout aged Irish Whiskey and really like them.

Hermit Crab??? Maybe?? It does look like Tri put a lot of work into whatever it is.
Some kind of crustacean perhaps.

Those are some generous pours at the bourbon tasting. I don't think my husband could handle that - he's the lightweight :) I might have to skip it.
We left happy and would do it again!

Day 7 Castaway Cay:

Woke up bright and early again today. The weather out was fantastic like the day before. We opted to skip the CC5K this trip decided to relax a little on our veranda while we docked rather than getting geared up and corralling with a bunch of runners. We chose to go with a lite breakfast delivered to our room again while we made our final arrival to CC.

As we made our approach I decide to clip the GoPro to our veranda roof while we turned the ship around and backed into the dock. Here is The Fantasy doing a 180 in preparation for docking:

After we spun the ship around we backed in to dock. Around the 2:38 mark you will see the ship's colors get raised.

Here are some still views from our room as we docked:

Day 7 Castaway Cay:

We finished our breakfast and changed while they were anchoring the ship to the dock. Since we backed into the dock the aft and midship doors were used to allow guests off the ship. The proximity of our room meant we only had to go down a few flight of stairs to disembark. We lucked out and ended up getting to exit with the CC5K runner a little early

We grabbed our towels as we exited and followed the race herd towards the mid island trams.

As we broke away from the race crowd we made for the Serenity Bay trams. We were among just a few on our shuttle to the beach:
