So for someone like me that doesn't know the many corporate employees, is this good or bad news for the future of Disneyworld and the badly needed new and renovated attractions? Test Trak 2.0 has left me disappointed and I am waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the completion of the Fantasyland section to make my final assessment and see if the Mine Coaster will excite me more than the Beast's Castle and Ariel's new ride.

Tony is an amazing talent that has been under utilized at WDI for many years. Losing him at this point is a zero sum loss since they haven't been using his potential anyway.
Mark runs Universal Creative. Thierry is SVP, Creative Studio for Uni. And no, they are not. Tony's not going to go to the competition, regardless. There's more to come from all of this from Disney and from Tony. This is not full-time retirement, and he still has some pet projects.

In other words: Don't panic.

I know who they are. And yes, Tony is staying (as a consultant) because of contractual obligations. But Tony is not a happy camper and non-competes only last so long.

And I wasn't panicking. :)

What was the last WDW project Tony worked on?

(For that matter anyone have a run-down of his WDW projects--BTM, original Imagination ride, Splash...what else?)

Missed that, sorry - didn't realize both of those posts were you, and that you were responding in that last post, sorry. Yeah, the don't panic was to the general group, not to you specifically. :) Tony's not happy, but this is an attempt to fix that somewhat. I don't think he'll go elsewhere officially when his agreement's up, I think he'll just enjoy time doing what he wants.

I hope this isn't tomorrow's limited time magic announcement they've been talking about... :)
That would be unfortunately literal, and a bit too close to home. :)

Is someone moving up to E-ville?

Phew, dodged a bullet there. But I'll look at it as a 50-50% chance that he retires. Gotta figure at somepoint in the near future that he will eventually leave. So maybe with his new role, one possible responsibilty will be he'll groom some Imagineer now for a few years to eventually take on his old former role.

I heard his title has changed and that he is not retiring. We shall find out tomorrow.
I know the announcement will be made tomorrow, but I wonder if we'll actually learn anything substantial.

There's a big difference between shifting from permanent salaried employee to self-employed consultant versus interdepartmental office swapping a la Sklar in 2006.

When Marty became Imagineering Ambassador he was still on the permanent payroll. I wonder if the same will happen with Tony so he can still reach his 50th anniversary with Disney in Aug 2015.
