Looks like the Speedway won't be going any time soon. They've just installed a jumbotron-esque video screen showing drivers on the ride. Sorry no pics!

Hopefully this is the first of many updates to the speedway. Including changing over to cars that are more in keping with the tomorrowland theme not 70's hot rods.

Have you seen the new and current cars on the road? They all look like 70's hotrods.

Point taken. Well, how about they use their GM ties and make them look like the concept C7 Vette fromt Transformers? All in fun though.

Making speedway cars based on concept cars would be a great idea, it could be a good way for a car company to get people exited about there products. Would be even better if they made them so they could be updated.

That would be interesting. I only wish they used electric cars, because the smell of the gasoline is very strong, especially while waiting in line.

Or E85 would be neat. The only drawback with E85 though is that you get about 15-20% less fuel mileage. I thought that Electric cars were in the works for TLSW?

The attraction is just fine--I and my kids have always had fun with it.

BUT the Gasoline smell. Ugh. For a company as 'green' as Disney is, in a 'land of TOMORROW, well. Plese make 'em electric. Then, pump in the sounds of an Indy Racetrack. Bingo, better experience. I would like the cars to be more "concept" like as well.

Anyway, like it now (except for the gas smell) but would love it with these touches added.

Agreed, the gasoline fumes are nauseating!

It would seem like an easy thing to do every couple of years to have an automobile manufacturer sponsor the attraction and provide new body overlays for their current models. It would be fun too for the kids. They could even do voice over announcements every now and then where they say something like, "Here comes another one of those 2010 Chevrolet Corvettes, hey, and there's a red 2010 Camaro, get in line and test drive one for yourself!". It would essentially be an in-park advertisement.

Even though this is one of those attractions that my family does once every 4 or 5 trips, I do feel there is a need for it in the MK. Especially for the little ones that are able to drive. I just wish the layout could be bulldozed and made to be more like the Autopia's at DL or HKDL. MK's (like it's name implies) speedway appearance makes it too open. DL's Autopia is neat because you actually can't see the complete layout from any one spot. Each curve is a surprise. It appears the Hong Kong version takes this approach also, with futuristic billboards, landscaping and electric cars. It would be great if the MK could follow this design and wipe the slate clean and give us a whole new experience (layout) with electric cars.

I agree, they need to get electric cars. The Gasoline ones make me so sick every time. I know that if I go on that ride, that I will end up with a nauseating headache the rest of the day. Blah.

It's always a fun ride though, esp a night. But the gas cars have to go..they run on lawnmower engines right?

I always felt bad for the cast members that had to work this ride. They must go home with a headache from the noise and fumes every night. :hurl:

I always hated this ride until my last trip. Took my 2 1/2 year old son on it for the first time a few weeks ago and the smile on his face was fantastic. We had to ride it several times.
