Tomorrowland Speedway drops Indy

Toontown and the Speedway pretty much butt up against each other. I don't think it would be too difficult to restructure the loading area to be next to Toontown. If they wanted to spend less money, they could just put an entrance in Toontown and reroute the queue so that it makes its way back to where the loading area is now. As for Tomorowland, tall trees and shrubs could hide it pretty well, but the truth is, it doesn't really need to be hidden. As mentioned, Matterhorn was once classified as a Tomorrowland attraction at Disneyland, but is now part of Fantasyland. It sits on the edge of both and can obviously be clearly seen from both. As long as the queue for the Speedway starts out in Toontown, it shouldn't be a problem.
And to the poster who thought the idea of a Cars theme would be bad...why? The attraction is already about cars, why not give it its natural tie-in? If it's a part of Toontown or Fantasyland it would fit in perfectly. It's one of those few times it seems to make sense to link it to a Disney or Pixar cartoon. Now, if someone starts going on about making Space Mountain themed to WALL-E, then I'd have a pretty big problem with that...
5 think it's the Pixar-ization of the parks is what people would have a problem with.TL already has one too many Pixar attractions.

Wasnt the speedway or "autopia" redone in Disneyland a couple years ago with a CARS theme?
Ive seen a picture of their new car vehicles and they look really nice and colorful or was that Hong Kong? Now I am not sure but for once I too would agree to theming this to pixar's cars.

Maybe you are thinking of the Cars ride at DLP.

Adding a Mater car, McQueen, Doc, etc, would be neat with speakers with saying from them. That would totally Disneyfy it!! (not really a word)

Disneyland's is themed more to the Chevron cars in the commericals -the ones animated with clay.

Oh okay yes those were the ones I was thinking of, I knew they were happy and colorful looking. Thanks for the clarification. I guess they wouldnt theme Disneyland's to CARS anyway since california adventure is getting the big new cars land e ticket ride.

I feel that NASCAR...doesn't belong in the Magic Kingdom.

I'm a pretty big NASCAR fan (Go #9), but I couldn't agree more. It would be an odd juxtaposition no matter what land you put it in.

That said, I'm not that much of a fan of the speedway, either.

Glad the see the Indy theme is dropped. What they really should do is give it a futuristic cosmic highway theme to make it fit into tomorrowland better. It could make the cars electric, have the cars be futuristic looking, have neat scenery like alien billboards, hitch hiking robots, the works. It has so much potential! Of course, knowing Disney, they'll probably just make it into a Cars land like everyone else has been mentioning.

I would love to see either a NASCAR skinning or Cars skinning of this attraction and then seriously amping up the speed of these cars :)

They could theme the ride to the Disney TV episode "Magic Highway USA". (You can see some of it on youtube). That would make it fit in with Tomorrowland, but the Toontown idea I think is better. That way the walkway from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland wouldn't be as crowded.

I wouldnt really say Autopia is themed to the Chevron cars more like Autopia cars/Chevron cars in the queue and some billboard/signs here and there.

What I mean is the actuall Autopia car isnt themed to a Chevron car.

I think word has it that the Chevron sponsership is up in a few more years and Honda maybe the new sponser with electric cars nothing for sure just what I'v read.

Perhaps both can get new cars and MK's get a refrub.

you see by my name where my heart lies!
Go #88!

But I would love to see something a little faster paced put in place, like why not an actual speedway? Where you could go a little faster than two miles an hour while getting whip lash from the idiot behind you?

If there wasn't already an abundance of cartoon properties in Tomorrowland, I'd love to see the Speedway rethemed to Cars, it could really work, but now that'd just tipping the theme towards Fantasyland East even more. I also agree that theming it to NASCAR would just be wrong for the Magic Kingdom overall.

And as for integrating it into Toontown, not a bad idea, but I don't think that wouldn't really work, either, because asking the Guest to perceive Toontown as a world of 2-D cell animated characters and 3-D computer generated characters combined would be kind of weird.

I'd say the best bet is to give it a DL/HKDL-style overhaul, just rename it Autopia and give it all the appropriate fixins'.

Weird like, say, "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "My Friends Tigger and Pooh," "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas," and of course the most popular example of 2-D/3-D crossover currently in the Magic Kingdom - "Mickey's Philharmagic?" I don't see the difficulty in connecting the 2-D world with the 3-D one. Disney crosses it over all the time now.

I get where you're coming from, but in those cases they are strictly 3-D. If you added Cars or any other 3-D animated venue to Toontown, you'd essentially be asking the Guest to imagine a Toontown world where 2-D and 3-D characters coexist next to each other. That hasn't been shown in any movies or anything. I'm assuming WDI wants you to imagine you are in Toontown as the realm is shown in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and that doesn't include 3-D. If they want a Toontown with both, I would assume that they'd want some show or something out there that showcases them co-existing, say a 3-D Woody visiting the 2-D House of Mouse, for example.

Well, then there's the other direction of crossovers - Pixar created the 2-D Buzz Lightyear cartoon and during the credits of many of their films - "Monsters, Inc.," "Ratatouille," etc. - they have shown 2-D versions of their characters.
If Disney really wanted you to think of Magic Kingdom's Toontown as the place in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" I think there would be something there actually from the film. My general feeling is they separated it from the movie by calling it Mickey's Toontown Faire. Even Disneyland's is actually called Mickey's Toontown, not just Toontown. Regardless, though, if "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" were a 2008 release, I would bet major money that the Pixar characters would be there. They are Toons. Toons live in Toontown. Just because one is drawn on a computer and the other is drawn on paper (then scanned into a computer!) doesn't make one less a Toon than another.
