Tomorrow Land Improvements...

Although there are tons of great ideas posted here, they are all the reason why every true Disney fan is ultimately disappointed with the final outcome. There is no originality, everything now has to be tied to some sort of film property. If you look at DL and MK in their semi-original forms, save for a few exemptions (Swiss Family Treehouse, 20,000 Leagues...) everything that was tied to a film was located in Fantasyland. With that everything stood on its own merit. Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Thunder Mountain, Pirates (even though they seem to have a terrible infestation of Depps, which I have come to peace with) still pull in the numbers after forty plus years. This is where my big complaint lies, as cool as it would be to have a Tron coaster (frickin' awesome) what I really want is what Walt did way back in 1951, give me what I didn't know I wanted but now I need. If you look at all the posts here about what everyone hates, namely Stitch (myself included) and then referencing Alien Encounter as something they love, what was it that drew you to AE? I know for myself, there was something special about it, it was so far away from everything Imagineering had done before, they had plussed themselves by going out of the box and replacing an extremely dated Mission to Mars with something simple yet original. So, I won't be adding to the attractions suggestions but I will put in my two cents on the whole theming of the area. As soon as New Tomorrowland opened, it had instantly dated itself, it will always do that, its the nature of the subject of the land. What MK needs to do is embrace that fact and pick a specific future. I would lean towards a mid century view of the future, just flipping through old Popular Mechanics magazines, you'll find a whole wealth of material for tons of great attractions that, if well maintained, would instill a sense of nostalgia that Disney built everything around at the same time the sense of hope and wonder of what the future could truly bring.

While reading Allyaker3 thread I was thinking, What could be done to improve Tomorrow Land. I don't think it needs a major overhaul like Fantasy Land, but it needs some help for sure.

I would like to see
- All of the restaurants in Tomorrow land replaced and upgraded.
- Do something with the wasted space between COP and SM
- Add a Dark Ride (Not sure where to place it but the area need one)
- Replace Stitch (This in my opinion is the worst attraction in Disney, why even get a FP for it)

what do you think
I really like these ideas!!!

Sign me up for getting rid of Stitch. There aren't many rides in WDW that makes me cry out "Why is this here?!" but that's one of them. Possibly the only one XD (For the record, I hated AE too XD)
You can also sign me up for not removing Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, but moving it. I actually really like the attraction but feel it doesn't work on Tomorrowland. It would be better at Pixar Place (which needs more attractions anyway)

My problem with original attractions is that I remember as a kid that most of the attractions that were not tied to a movie or cartoon that I knew either scared me or bored me. The only exceptions to this was Small World, Imagination, and Jungle Cruise. Everything else I enjoyed was based on something familiar. Something I recognized and I feel that mentality has only grown in the years since.

Stitch's Great Escape, Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor and Tomorrowland Speedway all shuttered/replaced.

Update CoP, raise it to match the old DL/World's Fair version with full replica model of Walt's EPCOT model and feature ongoing exhibit of tomorrow meeting today.

Indoor TRON ride where Stitch is today, preferrably the light cycles.

Star Wars retheme of Buzz with AA stormstroopers hunting you in SW themed environments that change as you leave/enter each area, ending in a battle with AA bounty hunters (Bobba Fett) where you are Han Solo and/or Chewbacca. The entrance/exit could have a replica Millenium Falcon complete with interactive queue where you add "features" to your own ride vehicle (like the TT that doesn't work.)

Monsters would be reworked to be the exit for the SW ride and "yet another gift shop" with nothing but interactive toys like build your own lightsaber, droid factory, carbon freeze me/storm trooper me, imaging, and maybe a meet-and-greet with AA droids. Nothing in the shop would be pre-packaged, everything would require the guests imagination of some sort.

Tomorroland Speedway area would be demolished to make room for a new indoor 4D experience themed after Meet the Robinsons on the ground floor and a TS restaurant themed to the future of dining above it. The TS restaurant would have vaulted ceilings with an active star field like a planetarium and feature relaxing space related tunes and be fairly dark with downlighting employed at low levels for dining/menu reading.

visit disneyland....done....no star wars in MK we have studios for that.

Add water elements and trees! Does the future not have trees???

TTA more aero-dynamic cars like the monorail.

Light up SM with color changing LED's

Remove the neon and use color changing LED's (it will create a different feel based on color)

Ditch the bathrooms and create a new ride (doesn't have to be E ticket) in its space. There is plenty of room.

Get rid of the Speedway or convert it to electric/more cleaner fuel.

I agree on the stitch replacement, and still think AE should come back. honestly, the concept of that ride was really fun and original, especially with the "worker" up top. I also agree on upgrading the restaurants.

I think WallE should have a small footprint there, and could also be the theme behind said dark ride. Why not make a dark ride where it is within a pavillion that puts us in the giant ship the humans reside on in the movie? sell the crazy drink they all have? The dark ride could be everyone getting a floating chair ( or modififed to fit more than one rider) that goes haywire when trying to return to earth? it could be a whole thing if you ask me!

Haven't been to WDW in more than 20 years. But from what hear about Stitch I have a morbid fascination and want to ride it just so I know how bad it really is.

I'd say keep Star Wars in the Studios and retheme Buzz Lightyear to Hero's Duty

Here is my idea to the above, recreate the axiom as the outside building shell hiding the dark-ride within. when entering it will look like the main "streets" of the axiom with light pathways and stores. the darkride will have a backstory of the axiom's return to earth and replanting it. the darkride would showcase riders in new travel chairs but everything goes haywire when the robots disregard the captain and try to return to space. a show piece outside could be an overgrown boot with a plant growing out of it. forgive my quick photoshop, and of course all made by "borrowed" images.

Tomorrowland needs to look more like TestTrack post refurb. The colour scheme is pretty much there, it's just the signage and other aesthetics, along with the replacement of Stitch. I think any arcade is a BAD idea, arcades are a thing of the past, retro not futuristic. Stitch should become a new 4D experience based on a time travel theme, using similar aesthetics, again, to TestTrack. The speedway should be turned into a pre-programmed car ride, similar to, (you guessed it) TestTrack but outside, not themed to car testing (themed to ride through the world of the future) and suitable for kids to ride alone (still with the thrill element). I would also turn buzz for an interactive game with a similar concept to a Lazer Quest within a vehicle (MIB of the future) where you shoot other people in other vehicles and they shoot at you. I would update CoP to look more futuristic at points yet keep a retro feel. Finally, I would change the AstroOrbiter to have all blue planets with a silver structure, and vehicles themed to the same theme. And change the spaceship theme to something more futuristic like flying cars (ok, maybe not flying cars but you get what I mean). Add a load of blue LED lights to accompany the new look and BAM, we have a winner.

Edit: monsters should become a put yourself into the PC ride where the riders are transported into the PC and get to play games from the perspective of the main character. And add a walkthrough experience in the empty space

Here is my ideas for tomorrow land

-continue the theming that you see on the avenue of planets and spread it throughout the entire land.
-get rid of monsters inc laugh floor. The show does not fit into the theming at all and should be evicted. Once it's gone bring back the original theater but give it 21st century technology and create a good original show for that area like the timekeeper was.
-take stitches great escape and re do so its not so obnoxious or completely turn it into a new show of some sorts.
-totally redo the autopia from scratch. By that I mean lay a new tack that doesn't have such a large footprint on the land and theme it so that you feel like you are driving in a futuristic city. Also get some electric cars so that we don't have so much darn noise pollution. Do you think that is how the future is going to sound? Exactly!
-add a e-ticket dark ride of some sorts somewhere in the the back of tomorrow land next to carousel of progress or near the new autopia.
-add a new walkthrough attraction and/or a nice sit sit down restaurant.
-and lastly please update the carousel of progress or just move it to EPCOT where it would make much more sense connected to Horizons. Oh, wait. That's gone. Well while your add it, build a Horizons 2.0

Tomorrowland

Pull everything but Space Mountain (and maybe people mover but it will need major re-imagining). Extend the theme of tomorrow into your attractions. This means putting in an attraction about transportation of the future. This means putting in an attraction about entertainment of tomorrow (is it droids or aliens). How about an attraction about our home life is in the future. Does any of this feel familiar? It should. It takes CoP to a macro size looking forward. It draws from the pool of thought that Horizons was. Take those type of visions and make them bigger.

I do like the idea of converting/re-imagining the Autopia to electric and themeing it to the sky. I also think moving CoP to EPCOT would be great on so many levels. But how many dumbo rides do you need in one park? As a young person, it was always the AA figures and scale models that fascinated me. Where is my flying car? My Jet pack?

Your ideas are great but fit more in the theme of EPCOT, not tomorrowland. Tommorowland is themed to the future than never was, more of a fantasy look at the future. Epcot is themed to the actual future and embraces optimistic ideas for the future. There is a reason it is themed like this to. Why would you want Epcot and Tommorowland themed the same. They are set up so that they are two totally different experiences.

The Tomorrowland that Walt built looked like this (cut and paste from wikipedia):

Tomorrowland opening day

Tomorrowland's showpiece was the TWA Moonliner, derived from Disney's "Man In Space" television episodes developed in the 1950s. The Moonliner was the tallest structure in the park at the time, even taller than the park icon Sleeping Beauty Castle. The Moonliner hosted Rocket To The Moon which was a ride to the moon. The entrance showpiece was the clock of the world showing the time anywhere on earth. The north show building hosted Circarama U.S.A. which showed movies on nine screens, and space station X-1 which showed a satellite view of America. The south show building showed the Monsanto Hall of Chemistry, which was a walk-through tour about chemistry. Autopia, an opening-day attraction, gave visitors a view of the National Interstate System that was to be built in the future. The attraction still remains open today, though it has been modified and rebuilt several times. This is the only attraction in Tomorrowland that has been open since opening day.

Over the years things were added to the Disneyland property. Most of which where explorations of the tangible yet just out of reach future. Then the massive re-imagined area with the cartoon-ish look at the future.I am willing to concede that perhaps Florida's tomorrowland was built originally as a cartoon-ish look at a future lost or unrealized.

I just like to think that looking forward, as Walt did with his original property, would fit the name a bit better.

EDIT: Future World in EPCOT is set up with: A look back at communication advances. A ride through an aquarium featuring a movie cast. A ride through a hydroponic greenhouse. A ride on a car explaining current design concepts. A ride about where energy came from and how we get and use energy today. Two special events pavilions. A glance at what imagination may may do (in a way not as good as the original). A neat old music video.

EDIT 2: Ooops I forgot some things: A series of games in 3 venues about things you can do or use today. A chance to play with the coaster tech from Forbidden Journey in another park. An opportunity to ride on a Segway (although that may already be removed.)

P.S. I use the wiki entry above so I don't have to dig out my books and scan them.(This action might also infringe upon copyright and cause me the pain of being sued by something I love.)

What was planned?

I do believe he was referencing the very thorough refurb involving a full track replacement, among other things, that was scheduled for sometime in 2007-8-9 (? not sure) which was cut down to something hardly consequential.

1 - Ditch Stitch
2 - Bring back metal spires with waterfalls and lose the red rocks entryway
3 - Make Tomorrowland Speedway more tomorrow-y or scrap it and do a Meet the Robinsons dark ride (obscure by todays standards but a great movie that fits like a glove with tomorrowland)
4 - Fix the Space Mountain de-furb
5 - Somehow bring a little more "snap" back to the WEDway People Mover (I refuse to recognize it by the name which shall not be spoken!)

I think signage more like this would help give tomorrowland a feel of today's future, not that of the 80s! excuse my photoshopping skills! P.S, stitch isn't included for a reason!
