Tomorrow Land Improvements...

I don't have a problem with the retro-future concept in TL, but Stitch is a perfect example of Disney trying to force weak movie characters on the parks. Some of them just don't work, and when you have a stable of hits like Disney has, why try to force all of the weak ones (Monsters, Inc. I'm looking at you too)? It's also pretty amazing to me that they are still using the ancient, loud, polluting, eyesore go-karts at the Speedway. Those karts were outdated in 1984 when I first got behind the wheel. Why not update it into a Cars/Radiator Springs style attraction like has already been built in Anaheim? It's just too obvious a solution I suppose.

My two upgrade wishes are:

1. Change the TTA dialogue back. "Now entering Space Mountain." Classic.

2. Put some awnings on the benches dividing the Cosmic Ray's area and the Speedway area. There's not much shade when you just want to sit a spell.

While reading Allyaker3 thread I was thinking, What could be done to improve Tomorrow Land. I don't think it needs a major overhaul like Fantasy Land, but it needs some help for sure.

I would like to see
- All of the restaurants in Tomorrow land replaced and upgraded.
- Do something with the wasted space between COP and SM
- Add a Dark Ride (Not sure where to place it but the area need one)
- Replace Stitch (This in my opinion is the worst attraction in Disney, why even get a FP for it)

what do you think
All of these I do agree with!
ESPECIALLY THE "REPLACE STITCH" part- I have no idea why they continue to keep that there. I rode it once and let's just say once was enough.

and, I am a HUGE Meet the Robinson's fan and I think they should replace Stich with a ride themed with this movie.
Also, I think TRON needs to take part in Tomorrowland. A lot of people love it and it makes for some really cool theming..there is just so much you could do with it in TL.

Number 1 for sure!!!! It was one of the most stupid things they ever did recently, whatever team or group was behind that shouldnt have gotten away with it.

Its def time for the speedway to either go or be redone, right now it looks like a Mcdonalds drive through, and some of those even look better than that.

Also put in the Monsters inc dark ride from DCA instead of the laugh floor or stitch,,,of course Tokyo's version would be best but we arent allowed to have anything that good.

Go back to the Saarenin Era look that Tokyo Disneyland embraced, bring back the giant waterfalls and loose the Buck Rodgers overlay.

It's too bad that Marvel characters can't be used at WDW. The first thing I would've done was give Stitch the boot and drastically retheme the building, transforming it into "The Weapon X Experience ." The attraction would follow the story of Bill Stryker's ongoing project of enhancing mutant superpowers for "weapons of tomorrow." Today's subject, Nightcrawler. A mutant who specializes in teleportation, though things go wrong when Nightcrawler decides that it's time to make his grandest escape. Guests will experience the ultimate showdown between mutant and humans. This attraction will complement the beloved ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, as it will follow the same format, just changing the story and characters... But like I said, it's too bad WDW can't touch those characters. (I READ THE CONTRACT!)

I think Buzz needed to go when TSM opened back in 2008, even the Laugh Floor should go. Combine the two buildings together (maybe build in some additional floors) and make a Tron attraction out of it. Also, I think the Tomorrowland speedway has ran it's course and with Carsland apparently coming to DHS, I say retire the track and use the space for a well deserved attraction. Space Mountain needs a major refurbishment (new track, audio, story) and I'm staying hopeful that the upcoming Space Mountain movie adaption will do well so it will increase our chances of this happening. They've done it with Pirates, I don't see why they can't do it with Space Mountain.

All of this has been brought to you courtesy of... wishful thinking!

I agree about getting rid of the Stitch ride- and I love stitch as a character but talk about an awful ride. The worst part is when he burbs on you and you get that whiff of something awful. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? It stays with you for the rest of the day. Ughhh.....So, yeah that should go. It seems like Wall-E is a no brainer to fit into that area. I also agree that the tomorrowland speedway should go or be changed. It is a gigantic footprint and I just do not understand how people justify that it belongs thematically in TL. How does it it fit? I also don't understand how MILF (hahah) fits into that space either. I'm not sure what it needs but a new futuristic overlay certainly would not hurt. I agree with an earlier poster that it looks kinda dirty like it needs a good power washing....In Disney Land TL has the Star Tours ride which fits really nicely into the theme. I know everyone is pushing for Star Wars in HS (and I agree it would be nice since I think that is the park that needs the most love) but I could see Star Wars being a good shot in the arm for Tomorrow Land too.....

I think every land (Adventure Land, Fantasy Land, etc) should have at least one super cool signature dining location and I think this is where Tomorrow Land is missing out. I know there is the joke about Disney only building restaurants now but MK is still lacking in great places to eat. I don't mean it has to be Royal Table expensive but all of the eating options in TL are either snack carts or look like a school cafeteria with metal chairs. How could would it be to eat in a restaurant that looked like a planetarium? Yes, rides are more needed but this could be a fun idea too.

I didn't think much of it til last walking through Tomorrowland by my mom just looked around and went "Geeeeezzz, I never noticed how TACKY Tomorrowland has gotten! It looks like Six Flags!" Honestly, I didn't think she was off. Every other land is so well manicured and everything in it's place, then you get to tomorrowland and its flash and things piled on things and sharp angles and neon= futuristic. It's the look that kills Tomorrowland for me. With a backdrop like Space Mountain, you'd think that would play center stage but it's hidden by clutter and dance spots and flash and I seem to see way too much pimping out DVC stuff set up there.
I hate Stitch, but who doesn't really. As for rides I like TTA, SM and Buzz, but all three are hidden in a mish mash of junk to navigate through.

Everyone is pretty much spot on IMO.
  • +1 on getting rid of Stitch.
  • As a few others have mentioned, I'd love to see an "E-Ticket" Tron attraction or even something completely original (not tied to a current Disney IP).
  • Update COP.
In all, focus definitely needs to be brought back to the "tomorrow" part of Tomorrow Land. Not everything needs to be injected with "magic pixie dust" so to speak.;)

Here's my thoughts:
Tomorrowland-

-Stitch is replaced with the return of an improved and updated Alien Encounter. Yay!

-TTA narration is replaced an updated old version (with the "now approaching" and "paging mr tom morrow" voices). Plus themeing is added to the track areas behind rocket tower plaza.

-I'm not sure what to do with MILF. A new ride could be put in it's place, or maybe perhaps an updated Timekeeper?

-Buzz is completely removed since there’s already a vastly superior Toy Story themed shooting ride in DHS. Why need another? Perhaps the show building could be merged with the TK show building to create a larger new attraction.

-CoP is updated with time periods redone (turn of the century, 50s, 80s/90s, not-too-distant future) and animatronics updated. Whole attraction gets Tomorrowland Metro Retro historical Society premise (visually but never given an unnecessary over-indulgent back story).

-Old skyway station is converted into Pizza Restaurant.

-Stitch stage gets torn down.

-Speedway rethemed and renamed to “Cosmic Freeway” with electric cars and futuristic themeing.

-Walkway between TL and FL gets rethemed to be more cohesive.

-The current Cosmic Ray’s could be converted into a Queen of Hearts banquet hall which will be a part of Fantasyland and entrance is facing Tea Cups. Whether it’s a sit down restaurant or fast food place it could work. Perhaps Cosmic Ray's could potentially be moved the where Buzz Lightyear is now if they replace it.

-The Galaxy Palace Theater is brought back and fully enclosed rather than open air. It will feature a new and improved and impressive Galaxy Search show.

Space Mountain gets a MAJOR rehab:

-It gets the big refurb it SHOULD have gotten back in 2010.

-Track is entirely replaced but with layout mostly staying the same.

-Onboard music added.

-Space Station themeing removed with emphasis that you are on an earth space sport. Re-themeing is added with less 70s feel. Music is kept the same.

-Loading/Unloading combined into huge loading and unloading area rather than separated.

-Spinning tunnel lift similar to DL’s added.

-Second lift (in new version) themed like the space lift like in the current version updated with lift enclosed with space projection effects.

-Asteroid, planet, and satellite effects added.

-Swirly tunnel similar to DLP’s version added to finale.

You had me at "replace Stitch". I decided to ride it again for the 2nd time to see if my opinion had changed... on that one ride alone:

- Some poor lady got a crotch full of Stitch spit
- A kid started crying non-stop and had to be taken out
- The burp grossed out everyone in the room as usual
- Multiple people cried out in pain as the shoulder harnesses crushed them

Yep, just like I remembered.

Aside from that, it really doesn't feel like "Tomorrowland" as most everything there feels dated. Since they'll never remove it, replace the cars in the Speedway with something futuristic (electric?), update the last scene in CoP, give Space Mountain the redo it was supposed to get, updates to pretty much everything else in there. Find a way to incorporate Tron/Wall-E.

On the side, I think it would be a great add (both in theming and offering) to have a signature restaurant based around molecular gastronomy either in TL or Future World. They could create cool, zany "futuristic" dishes that fit in perfectly and would easily be one of the most unique restaurants on property. Nothing they have there now even comes close.

Lord_Vader

Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
Stitch's Great Escape, Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor and Tomorrowland Speedway all shuttered/replaced.

Update CoP, raise it to match the old DL/World's Fair version with full replica model of Walt's EPCOT model and feature ongoing exhibit of tomorrow meeting today.

Indoor TRON ride where Stitch is today, preferrably the light cycles.

Star Wars retheme of Buzz with AA stormstroopers hunting you in SW themed environments that change as you leave/enter each area, ending in a battle with AA bounty hunters (Bobba Fett) where you are Han Solo and/or Chewbacca. The entrance/exit could have a replica Millenium Falcon complete with interactive queue where you add "features" to your own ride vehicle (like the TT that doesn't work.)

Monsters would be reworked to be the exit for the SW ride and "yet another gift shop" with nothing but interactive toys like build your own lightsaber, droid factory, carbon freeze me/storm trooper me, imaging, and maybe a meet-and-greet with AA droids. Nothing in the shop would be pre-packaged, everything would require the guests imagination of some sort.

Tomorroland Speedway area would be demolished to make room for a new indoor 4D experience themed after Meet the Robinsons on the ground floor and a TS restaurant themed to the future of dining above it. The TS restaurant would have vaulted ceilings with an active star field like a planetarium and feature relaxing space related tunes and be fairly dark with downlighting employed at low levels for dining/menu reading.

Am I the only one who doesn't think TL looks dated? I think the avenue of the planets still looks fantastic and not outdated at all. It's just that beyond that, the land still has the 70's white TL look to it.
