I thought I would pass on the fact that Tom Staggs was touring Epcot today with a main focus on visiting Habit Heroes in innoventions and a possible facility tour of Test Track.

Interesting, lets hope he rode Imagination and saw that it has none.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I like Staggs, and had a lot of hope for him, but it does seem like they're ignoring the problems with EPCOT.

If this was DLR Imagination would have been fixed 2 years ago. And they would have been shamed for letting it go that long.

I still think it's completely unbelievable that these guys aren't in the parks all of the time. It shouldn't be news when they're in a park because they should be there so often.

It would be like any other department head or CEO not sampling his company's product but only once or twice a year. Astonishing.

I can understand it with Iger, but not for Staggs.

I'm in the military and don't see my commanding general all the time; hardly ever in fact. HOWEVER, if my unit was in the same shape as some of the areas and attractions that you see at WDW, you can bet that some Colonels' @$$'s would be chewed and some would find their @$$ on the street. That's the part that I don't get. How can "the boss" walk through the parks, see the same stuff that we do, and not ask questions about why things are left in the shape that they are in?

Because they understand the reasons WHY it is that way.

Reading Skaggs bio on the disney investor site, it is apparent that his strengths have been purely financial. He doesn't seem to have the emotional attachment that say a John Lasseter has to the parks. It would be interesting to see what rides he's actually been on and if he has a favorite.

100% Agreed. :sohappy:

Walt was in DL ALL the time...he saw guest's experience first hand and discovered what could be improved upon. It's a shame that creativity at an executive level is a thing of the past. Now there's the creative department and then the people in charge who think according to financial gain.

And even now we hear about Lassetter and other Imagineers at DL all the time as well.

WDW is the stepchild when it comes to resorts, and it shows.

Yes
I don't think he's THAT disconnected from an emotional connection the parks. He does seem to at least enjoy the parks and remember he was the one who retooled FLE to be less girl-centric. His office is 5 hours across the country by plane so I can understand how he isn't at WDW that much.

Now what es me off is how little Meg "in over her head" or "cleaning woman" Crofton is in the parks. I saw her back stage, was coming back from break, nodded and smiled twice and said hello, got no response. On top of it, she had no name tag, no visible ID. That's a load of BS as far as I'm concerned.

my fear is when Iger retires, Staggs becomes CEO and the cleaning woman gets Stagg's job. I swear I will be DONE with Disney if that happens.

With 11 theme parks world wide plus four cruise ships and several other Disney Resorts and Destinations around the world I think you would find Tom is in ALL the parks more than you think. He's a busy man and I fully understand why he maybe isn't at WDW as much but I'd be willing to bet he's there more than you know.

I also think it's unfair to compare the amount you see the executives in DL in the park simply cause the main imagineering facilities and Bob Iger's office is around an hour and a half to two hours away opposed to having to fly across the country or half way around the world to visit.

The only criticism I truly agree with is the executives who sit around TDO and don't visit the park. They are the ones we should see more often. Tom only visits when there is a need to visit and when he does visit, it's a tightly choreographed schedule that leaves very little time to notice the small problems TDO should be taking care of.

That is a scary thought for sure. Phil Holmes needs to go too, its because of him Wishes isnt getting a replacement, and he doesnt visit his own park (MK) either but works from home most the time. I suppose IF Meg were to one day take Staggs position, Holmes could fill hers. Greatttt. :brick: All in all, bad scenarios lol that lets hope never come to fruition.

I was under the impression that Meg is having some serious health problems and she'll be retiring soon.

I have heard this a few times now - but only from these boards. What health problems? She can't be that sick or disabled given the huge list of boards she is on in Orlando. She seems to have her hand in just about everything...

This is true. While I wish she would leave Disney (and she will be exiting this year), I wish her no ill health.

As to Staggs, I am surprised some of the crazier MAGICal denizens haven't suggested he's there to oversee some $6.8 billion retooling of the park with three new FW pavilions and three new WS nations and E-Tix galore.:ROFLOL:

The reality is he had meetings in Celebration relating to the Fantasy launch and checked in on the parks while around. That sorta ... kinda ... is his job you know?

Sooo...if she did indeed leave this year (not holding my breath)... who would be the most logical replacement? It sounds as if she is planning to exit, so there must be at least a short list by this time...

It does seem that Tom Staggs has been in the parks more already than Jay Rasulo ever was...?
