So much conjecture, from one guy walking around. Yep, Tom Staggs was here, and walked through quite a few areas (both on and off stage, in multiple parks). Bruce and Craig also had a townhall meeting (surely someone noticed the throngs of Imagineers slipping into Oddysey on Tuesday), laying out the five year plan. Guess which one of those events should make you more excited?

Not sure who Bruce and Craig are, but what's the 5 year plan?

Yes, hunger makes one waste their time with Frank the Predictable New Mexican.

I can guarandamntee you that IF Pandora-the World of the Giant Blue Sex Kittens That US Military Types are Trying to Murder To Steal Their Unobtanium (so many teen jokes are running through my head now!) ever gets built for DAK, you will see a huge unveiling with a very large media contingent and it will be timed for maximum exposure.

That's a 100% Spirited Guarantee ... not only will you get your money back if I am wrong, but I'll also include a 2007 WDW LE CM Easter pin too with Pooh and Friends!

I said such things as groundbreakings are done through social media now. That is how OrSen found out about Potter 2.0 work being underway. They are still not up to speed on Transformers.

I clearly stated that when the land actually opens the old media would naturally be invited. It is almost in a patronizing way now. And more and more you will see Disney using social media and the mouse house blog for trial balloons and announcements. The future is here. The old media is withering away.

True, but to be fair, I was agitated before they made this dumb knee-jerk deal/announcement and I'm agitated now and I'll probably be so in the future.

Today, I am extremely agitated by rich kids that have no concept of money, earning it or that others actually have to work for their toys or trips to DLR.
I still cant comprehend how some of these lifestylers afford it - some of the lower tier who arent getting the Lou package from Celebration Place and live outside of CA/FL. Some of them must be up to their eyeballs in credit card debt...

In today's social media era, all it takes is one Twit to tweet and the world picks it up and runs with it like it's a football and Jerry Sandusky is coming up from the rear (too soon?)

Chatter about nothing is just that. Of course, in the Disney fan community that is largely what you get on Twitter.

You, sir, are officially my favorite poster here with that. I almost had to dry off my keyboard! Now, about that supposed groundbreaking...definitely didn't happen. Was at the park yesterday, and not a single change. They won't break ground until they've moved everything they want to keep out of the area.

Are you saying Avatar broke ground yesterday and the news was announced via some obscure person on Twitter but wasn't covered by the Disney Parks Blog (the nerve center for Disney social media)?

As for the rest of your post, neither Potter 2.0 nor Transformers has even been announced yet, Avatarland has. Universal is going to time these announcements to maximize publicity and to try to keep attendance numbers up in the meantime.

I'm also not sure why you're differentiating between old and new media. Traditional media uses social media and certainly is informed of Disney PR news even if it's announced via the blog posts.

And how is the Disney blog being used for trial balloons? All I see there is new merchandise that I don't want, special events I'm not going to pay to attend, and construction pictures...

Where's the trial balloon or the genuine dialogue with readers of the blog?

The five year plan is exactly what it sounds like.

It's a list of things they'd like to look at for improvement or actually change over the course of five years. Plan of action, if you will. Doesn't really make anything concrete.

WDW's five year plans were super exciting back in the 90s...now...not so much. Granted I don't know what this plan contains. One thing is for certain- DVC is on there.

I'm drawing a blank on last names right now. But I'm pretty sure Craig and Bruce are WDI planners.

Potter 2.0 has been announced officially, just no details.

Didn't remember that. Anyone know if Universal announced an opening date for it, even if they didn't announce the attraction line up?

All they said was Potter would have an expansion in Orlando... They never gave details of the land, where the land would be located, or any kind of opening date... We all know it is going into Amity, but they haven't confirmed it, officially... And speculation has been 2014/2015 opening date, but again, not anything official from Universal...

Are you saying Avatar broke ground yesterday and the news was announced via some obscure person on Twitter but wasn't covered by the Disney Parks Blog (the nerve center for Disney social media)? There were reports of Rohde and Cameron being in DAK a few months ago through social media before the Disney Blog released a story.

As for the rest of your post, neither Potter 2.0 nor Transformers has even been announced yet, Thus the point that these things get announced through social media first. Sometimes with the companies knowledge and sometimes not. Hard to determine on a case by case basis. I am sure Uni loves the buzz. Avatarland has. Yep, first through the web and then from Iger hisownself. Universal is going to time these announcements to maximize publicity and to try to keep attendance numbers up in the meantime. Yes, sometimes they will use social media "leaks", sometimes they will be true leaks and sometimes they will be through press releases. Though I contend the latter will be increasingly rare.

I'm also not sure why you're differentiating between old and new media. Traditional media uses social media and certainly is informed of Disney PR news even if it's announced via the blog posts. I am just observing and commenting on how information dissemination is changing radically. Michael Crichton saw all of this.

And how is the Disney blog being used for trial balloons? I see what I suspect are trial balloons more and more through social media. Not necessarily the official blog. Cheaper than surveys that is for certain. All I see there is new merchandise that I don't want, special events I'm not going to pay to attend, and construction pictures. Cynical much?

Where's the trial balloon or the genuine dialogue with readers of the blog? Disney can pay megabucks for surveys which they do. But I believe they have also learned to take the temperature of the fan community through sites like this. And I am convinced they do. Those blinded by cynacism can't see it.

Don't think you have sidetracked me from wdw74's comments above. Heh.

Surely you aren't suggesting the famed Disney surveys provide a genuine dialogue with the company. Those things have proven that guests prefer Wonders of Life to be closed and hate anything other than burgers and fries.
