Tom Sawyer Island appreciation thread

The other problem is nothing about TS island is ADA compliant. Nothing can really be touched there because it is grandfathered in.

The caves are totally non ADA and there is no way to make them so. Etc. etc. It's stuck in time and can't be changed. I'm fine with that but some day it will have to be changed to a ADA compliant attraction which means the end of TS island.
I agree with you, but, as a disabled guest (I can walk short distances), I still find TSI enjoyable...just as a side note, the same could be said about SFR Treehouse.

I’ve never been to TSI but we had a blast at the DL equivalent. Im pretty sure the kids (age 5 at the time) had more fun on the island than the rest of the park! I’m headed to MK in November and am planning on having an “easy day” with a late start, country bears, Riverboat, Tom Sawyer island, and then the parade in Frontierland. This thread got me excited for that day, thanks!

Remember looking for the hidden Tom Sawyer paint brush?? My DS went looking around and found it one time. We got over to the island early and he found it fairly quickly and was rewarded with a FP to splash Mtn. I cant remember what year it was but they discontinued the paint brush hunt sometime after that.

One of my favorite memories of TSI was when I was there on a solo trip (I had been in the area on business). I was on one of the first boats over, and quickly spotted a paintbrush on top of the shelf at the boat dock (I'm 6'4") I sat there and watched as everyone walked past it. I hung out there for a when, and then a woman with a small kid came back to the dock. The kid was around 7 years old. He was visibly upset that he did not find a paintbrush. He was not pitching a fit or anything, but I got the gist from his conversation with his mom that it was something that he was really looking forward to, and that they did not come to WDW on a regular basis and he would not have an other chance to look at one. I caught the mothers attention and pointed to the shelf and mouthed "paintbrush". She got the idea and said maybe they should look around more. She picked her kid up and he was able to find it. You never saw a kid so happy. The mother thanked me and asked if I wanted the fast pass. I was just happy to see the kid so overjoyed.

how cool would it be to camp there. like win a competition and spend the night there in a yurt or something. pretty cool.

however if it were to be changed to suit more current themeing that disney are following. Maybe make it the lost boys camp from peter pan, i dunno but getting rid of it would be a bummer.

Love TSI!! It's a must do for us every trip and my kids who are 17 and 12 still look forward to visiting it. Last time we were there I sat on a rock and watched BTMRR for almost and hour while the rest of my family explored the island. Probably the best part of my trip!!

Who says you have to be a CM to make magical moments. Nice story, thanks for sharing it. Some child out there will forever remember the day something special happened to him at TSI.

Are the guns still in the fort? I wouldn't be surprised to see them go soon.

Well, we just got back from our long unexpected weekend in good old WDW. I caught a glimpse of them there rafts off yonder while making a visit in Frontier land and fancied myself a ride. After a few ticks of the clock we found ourselves skipp'n and hopp'n around the island. Uneven walk'n paths and hidden treasures abound everywhere you could peep a look. I was even challenged by my better half to a try at checkers. I gave her a good what's for, I'll tell ya. The canons and single shots were in as good ashape as ever. Some young-ins were trying to lay siege on the good old Liberty Bell as she was mak'n her way up river. Good thing they missed or I might have gotten my Sunday best all wet, hav'n to save all those unexpecten folks on that there boat.

We love making a trip to the island every Disney vacation at least once. Nice way to cool off and escape the crowds. Even when the island is crowded it never seems as crowded as other areas of the park on busier days. I love walking through the caves and the old fort, feeling like a adventurous kid again.

Miss the keelboats!!! Wish they would have "re-imagined" them and reintroduced them, what a nostalgic ride. I guess Davy Crockett is not PC anymore... Aunt Pollys was a great place to hang for a moment when you had kids in the stroller... out of the heat and take a break.. when it was open, you could get a quick snack and relax... nice spot for PBJ sandwiches with a great view!!!
