Tom Hanks / Tim Allen on Jungle Cruise?

When Disney installed the Jack Sparrow AA into POTC, most fans loved the addition. Sure, you had your few traditionalists set in their ways who did not want movie representation thrown into the classic Pirates ride. But overall, people welcomed Depp's character into the attraction.

Folks were apparently not too thrilled about having Eddie Murphy added to HM for a film tie-in with that attraction, and sadly, that idea never made it outta the rumor mill.

So at this point, Disney is 1-1 with adding movie tie-in's to classic dark rides...one hit, one failure.

Now we have a Jungle Cruise film on the horizon, supposedly starring the famous Toy Story power-duo of Tim Allen & Tom Hanks. In all seriousness (I cannot stress this enough, due to the "troll" mongers out there), but in all seriousness, do you think one or more of the main characters from the upcoming JC film will find their way onto the attraction?

The reason I'm asking:
JC in Fla could use an upgrade. After riding the version in CA this past summer with the piranha effects, floating baskets "thrown" into the water, and so on...the Fla version could step it up a bit. With a planned film on it's way, what better opportunity than then to upgrade WDW's JC ride?

Depp was a yay, Murphy was a nay, so what will WDW fate hold for Allen/Hanks? If incorporated smartly, this could work. Even something as subtle as having their voices come over the announcements in the queue area, replacing the current audio. Or having Tim Allen do his famous Home Improvement grunt as boats enter the temple. It doesn't have to be as extensive as AA figures.

But either way, this could work.

I highly doubt it. There was also some rumor awhile back of Timon & Pumbaa doing something with the jungle cruise. I'm glad they didn't.

Agree. Its one of those attractions that I don't see them messing with. Maybe after the movie and if its a super mega hit. Another reason, we saw them change Tiki Room back to no character influence, so Im not sure the thought of the movie infiltration of the attraction moving forward much.

Probably somethin's gonna happen there in the next year or two when things start to finish up in new Fantasyland. What has changed in the past 40 yrs??? Not much right?

There have been a few changes......the last time we were there they had removed the "head salesman".

They took away the head salesman?? :( He was one of my favorite parts of the ride, especially the "two of his heads for one of yours" pun the skipper would always say at that scene. The male genitalia reference was hilarious, yet so subtle that smaller children wouldn't get it. (The "after hours"/adult JC tour was the best).
The head salesman will certainly be missed if this is the case. I hope he was only removed for rehab on the AA figure, rather than gone for good. :(

I think the ride is best left without a film tie-in. Granted I love Allen and Hanks and they both have great voices for narration, but I think letting the skippers do their thing is what makes the ride fun.

I think that movie tie-ins to classic rides have to be done very, very carefully. Adding Zazu and Iago to the Tiki Room was just annoying, adding Capt. Jack Sparrow to Pirates was done well and didn't change the attraction all that much.

Voice overs in the queue area would be OK, but stop at that.

I agree with this. Maybe have TVs in the queue w/the actors giving pointers on how to survive the cruise. This will all rise and fall with how popular/unpopular the movie is. Johnny Depp's addition worked because the wild popularity of the films. Eddie Murphy's addition most likely did not happen because of how wildly unpopular the movie was. If it's a hit - i'm sure we'll see some tie in. If not - Disney will not want to remind us of a flop of a movie.

It will depend on how successful the film is. While HM made money it is largely regarded as a flop. PotC on the other hand was a blockbuster success. Had the tables been turned Captain Jack would not be in PotC and Jennifer Tilly's face and voice would have replaced Madame Leota. If the JC movie meets with PotC success I think the chances of seeing Tim Allen and Tom Hanks integrated into the attraction are fair to good.

Well, the jungle cruise DId used to have a tie in to a film... surely you all rememver King Louie? :ROFLOL::ROFLOL::lol::animwink:

It definitely depends on how well the film does. I've never been a big fan of Jungle Cruise, so I wouldn't mind if they added Hanks and Allen in along with a refurb of the ride. I know some people wouldn't want it touched though since it's such a classic

Wouldn't make as much sense seeing as the plan for the movie is Hanks and Allen's characters are basically a skipper and a "guest"

I like adding a sound bite or two during the ride and having them do the background soundtrack for the line. Outside of that, though...no thank you.

I'd rather they keep Hanks and Allen to the Toy Story rides and leave Jungle Cruise alone, no matter how successful the movie is.

I hope they add Hanks in there as a statue inside the temple, and Tim Allen's Tim The Tool Man Taylor as the person building a tent or something.
