Tokyo Disneyland Resort Expansion

I'll be curious to see how much the percentage of foreign visitors continues to increase.

The latest attendance report has foreign guests at 12.7% as of FY 2024, which still seems kind of low to me considering the unbelievably insane numbers of tourists that can be found in every single neighborhood of Tokyo these days.

Pre Covid international guests was like sub 5%. You could go almost the entire day and not see a “western” person

12.7% is actually higher than I would have imagined even given Japan’s soaring international tourist numbers

The mix of tourists have also changed, Chinese tourist still haven't recovered while the western ones have boomed. I can imagine that the grow of westerns in Disneyland is larger than that number makes it look like.

I thought this review was very interesting. Balanced, with some important issues pointed out.

I watched that video a while ago and it basically made all the points I thought but just worded way better

The land has no streetmosphere or shows, it doesn’t feel like disneysea and leans way too hard on its rides over everything else leading to large amounts of dead space that are in actuality hiding show buildings

I will also say PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow Tokyo bay guests to leave via fantasy springs hotel, even if it’s a one way exit, please

going to TDR tomorrow on a whim… won’t be able to make it at opening, closer to 10am. Is it even worth going to Disneysea to try and get into fantasy springs? Willing to buy passes or whatever to get in. Any feedback?

Based on recent data, you almost certainly won't be able to get a pass for Frozen, but it's very possible you could get some for Tangled or Peter Pan.

Japan fandom theories suggest, After Tomorrowland has finished its construction the next areas in line are, Adventureland Expansion, Westernland and Critter country.

They believe with ongoing closure of Swiss family treehouse, Unused facilities in Adventureland and demolition of trees speculates that an expansion is imminent.

this is a separate theory of what will happen with Critter Country as well.

Will they do it in phases maybe. But its just speculation and too early to predict on what IP’s will enter the land.

Will Pirates be part of the chopping block? Will Encanto enter the area? will Princess and the frog franchise finally gets it deserved place in New orleans? Will the stage show be demolished in the future to make way for the expansion pad.

Tokyo Disneyland is going to be exciting for the next few years.

Hopefully, we get an announcement in the next year or two about their plans post-Tomorrowland. I am guessing after Fantasy Springs that Tokyo DisneySea will not get another expansion until after 2030. It was such a huge project that it would be fair to let the attention go to Tokyo Disneyland for a while.

I'm curious to see how much they're willing to spend on the new expansions. After Fantasy Springs hasn't led to as much of a revenue spike as hoped, I worry they may start cutting budgets for future projects. Hoping I'm wrong.

Last I checked Fantasy Springs Hotel had high priced rooms with little availability and a waiting list just to enter the new area…….. and yet the addition financially disappoints OLC???
I'm anything but an expert TDR and welcome input from others but have been stalking everything TDR for years to assist with planning for my trip next year. My general observation are...
  • Fantasy Springs Hotel has cannibalised occupancy especially at the DLH
  • Fantasy Spring had a bit of Galaxy's Edge issue where all of the complications to get in seems to have subdued demand
  • Fantasy Springs Hotel is also not getting great reviews and the opening of Fantasy Springs has also hurt reviews and satisfaction for TDS as an overall. There are also many online reviews complaining about the huge complexity and/or cost of Premier Access, Anniversary Pass, Entry Request etc.
  • Locals are still very disappointed by the lack of any Annual Passes and when they do attend the lack of entertainment specifically in TDS compared to pre-COVID
