Heck, this is the country where it is offensive to have to say the Pledge of Allegiance. to display our country's flag....I could go on, but I hope I've made my point.

No. This is the country where you DON'T HAVE to say the plege of allegiance if you don't want to. That's true freedom--a country where you acknowledge what others are saying, even when you would spend a lifetime disagreeing.;)

A question answered in one of the Imagineer books. Almost everything at Disney isn't neccessary but it is done anyway. The reason is because that is what make's Disney Disney. If it weren't done, Disneyland would have gone under the first year of operation.

I think you missed the point. Of course the imagineers go BEYOND the call when it comes to theming and design. Your trying to compare very dissimilar things into one thing. However, a nativity scene really doesn't fit in with this philosophy, does it?

As Pixie Duster informed me, the nativity scene was included with the Osborn lights. I was not aware of this. This is why the scene is included.

Disney would NEVER had placed such a scene otherwise.

Disclaimer: It is MY understanding that the scene was part of the original Osborne lights. I could be wrong, but I will attempt to find out.

Okay, I'm usually not involved in these quazi-heated debates, but something funny crossed my mind. I'm not trying to attack anyone by this and if you check my track record, I've never been mean to anyone on these boards. Okay, enough disclaimers!!

If there IS an nativity scene in a Disney park, who cares? I know it's something that groups of people can object to and feel that they should have equal representation also. Honestly though, WDW is in America. Right now the leader of America believes God is acting through him and he's putting policies into action that are very much Christian influenced. These people are coming to WDW or even America knowing that our own leader is proudly backing the "One Nation Under God" wholeheartedly. If you're not uphauled or offended enough by Dubya b/c he's a Christian, then why would you care about a nativity scene in the Osborne Family's Spectacle of Lights??

I'd never cringe at a minorah or any other religious symbol unless it was like a picture of someone killing puppies or something. It's just part of the territory!

Okay, off my soap box, please don't throw rocks at me! :p

I never insinuated that it would. I just simply asked the question: Is it necessary?
:animwink:

Yes It's Necesary. It is part of the OFCL(Osburne Familt Christmas Lights). Christmas is a Federal Holiday and major part of that Holiday is the Birth of Jesus-Be He God's Son or Be He a Prophet (as our Islamic friends believe) or Be He Just an Historical Figure or even Be He a Myth.As far as other religions there is a house in the OFSL display that has a Hanakah theme,in Epcot's Morocco they celebrate Ramadon, and in AK the mention Kwanza(NOT a religous tradition, but a cultural one developed in the US in the 60's). The only major religions that are not displayed are Hindu (maybe when Epcot gets an India Pavillion) and Buddisum( but some tratidions are displayed in China and Japan at Epcot). There should be no PC nonsense here be cause it is stated Clearly in EVERY AD,COMMERCIAL. PAMPLET, BILLBOARD and MAP put out by Disney That The Light display Put Up At Disney-MGM(During Late November To Earlt January) Are The Osburne Family CHRISTMAS Lights. NUFF SAID! :xmas:

Menorah;) *throws rocks at Lil Spark*

In all seriousness, though, a menorah is not really a religious symbol. It's just happens to be a candle holder with with a place for 9 candles.

I still don't see the reason for the nativity scene. I think the lights would be just as effective in their purpose without it. Nevertheless, I'm done arguing about it.

Christmas has become so very consumer driven in the past few decades that it is no longer looked at as a christian event but rather a holiday based on "giving" and "sharing", or Ahemm...Santa Clause. It is my opinion that rather than offend anyone with any belief system, Christmas would be best celebrated in public avenues (ie. Disney) with Santa instead of religeous preferences. According to other posts, Santa Clause is the common bond between the religeons. It may be best to exploit that instead of alienating anyone. This isn't PC, this is common sense. In America we are a melting pot of many different cultures and beliefs and we should be tolorent of these things. If it is not possible to include them all, include non and use the common factor in it's place...Santa.

I guess then the nativity is just a stable?

Tolerant-not blind. Like it or not the said "nativity sceen" is part of an agrement between the Osburne Family and Disney.Disney is to display All of the lights, the Creche is part of that agrement. As to people not liking Christian Symbols displayed in public places,WDW is not a public place is privately own company own by Jews,Christians,Hindus,Buddaist,Muslums.,Atheist,ect..So If you don't like it do like the Southern Baptist....Boycott, or be tolerant of the traditions some people have with Christmas(Santa, Snowmen,Lighted Trees,Peppermint Sticks,Present Giving and yes be TOLERANT of celecbration the Birth of a Child Named Jesus) :drevil: :xmas:
