Tobacco smoking--general question

I know that there is post below inquiring about Cigar smoking, but I have a general tobacco question.

A person in our party smokes, and wants to know if you are able to smoke in the parks, or if there are designated smoking areas?

Also, we are staying at the All Stars Movies Resort. If we have a NonSmoking room, can you smoke outside wherever you want?

Thanks!!!

I can answer the first one and have a go at the second.

Smoking is only allowed in the park in the designated areas (which are on the maps).

I'm not sure about smoking outside the rooms at All-Star.... I'd consider it courtious if your party didn't, as smoke could waft into other rooms. Also the people that specified Non-Smoking would probably prefer a totally non-smoking environment (usually down to the effects tobacco has on them, say Asthma)

The Official Smoking Policy at the Walt Disney World Resort...

On January 30, 2000, the Walt Disney World Resort designated smoking areas throughout the four theme parks as the only places where guests can smoke. This change reflects guest concerns in recent years about smoking in theme parks. It also helps address non-smoking guests' needs while providing options for guests who want to smoke.

Frequently asked questions and answers about the smoking policy

Q: What is the smoking policy at the Downtown Disney area?
A: The policy at the Downtown Disney area will continue to comply with state laws and local ordinances about smoking in public areas by designating smoking areas throughout the property. Smoking is permitted in the following areas:
All common areas except Cirque du Soleil, DisneyQuest, children's play areas, food and beverage locations, merchandise locations and Cap'n Jack's Marina.
Nightclubs at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island offer a smoke free environment.

Q: What is the smoking policy at our resorts?
A: Guest smoking at our resorts has been restricted to designated outdoor areas and only in those guest rooms that are not designated as non-smoking. Smoking is prohibited in restaurants, ballrooms and all other indoor common areas.

Q: What is the smoking policy at Disney Sports and Recreation locations?
A: Guest smoking at our water parks, miniature golf locations, golf courses and Disney's Wide World of Sports has been restricted to designated outdoor areas.

Q: Where can guests purchase tobacco products on property?
A: Guests can purchase tobacco products at any Walt Disney World resort and the Downtown Disney area. Tobacco products are not sold in our theme parks.

Hope this answers all your questions... :sohappy:

My wife and I went to Disneyworld in February.. You would think the whole park was a smoking area because no matter where we went there was always people smoking around us.. All around World Showcase, Magic Kingdom, etc... They were not staying in the designated areas, and I could not believe they were able to get away with it! I have no problem with people who smoke, but why can't they obey the rules ?? Also, we were staying in a non-smoking room at Pop Century, and the people staying next to us were smoking outside their room. We woke up our first morning and there had to be about 20 cigarette buts in a bowl in front of their room, not to mention the fact that we could smell smoke all night. Luckily it was their last night there, and our first night so we didn't have to deal with it our whole stay. I would have seriously asked to be moved!! Anyone else ever had to deal with similar issues?? Thankyou for letting me vent, I feel better now!!

This is what I just posted on the cigar thread
"Please don't we were in Pop Century last June and people two doors down would smoke out side the room and we were leaving to go to the park and the smell was real bad and I had an asthma attack from it. Please think of the people that get non smoking rooms for health reasons"

I can say that we as CM try to stop people when we see them, but we can't be everywhere at once. Also, I remember I was outside space working FP when I noticed a guy smoking. I told him where the smoking area was and he looked and me in the face then blew his smoke in my face said "whatever" and walked away in the wrong direction. Short of calling security there wasn't much else that could be done. :(

Granted I would love to see a open ban on smoking in all of WDW, but I know that really isn't right and won't happen.

Hey there, Thanks for trying!!!!!! I Am a non-smoker and I Am amazed at how inconsiderate some people can be. Most of my friends who do smoke are pretty cautious and considerate but other people I have seen....WOW!!!!!! Belle

As a CM you should have called Security on the guy who blew smoke in your face.

While the majority of the smokers I know are considerate, the ones who choose to ignore the rules are just plan RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! They deserve to be run out of WDW on a rail and NEVER allowed in again.

I've got asthma and a heart condition and I cannot be around smoke of any kind. If someone was in a non-smoking area and decided they were above the rules and smoked around me, it is the same thing to me as attacking me with a knife or gun. They should be charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

OK....thanks for letting me vent. I don't mean to offend anyone.

With the number of buildings that each resort has, it would be nice to have seperate smoking and nonsmoking rooms. I know this would be impractical for Disney, but It would make people happier and give them the chance to breathe easier.

I agree with the CM above, the CM's can't catch everybody, all the time.

Everytime I go I constantly see TEENAGERS (like 14 years old!) wandering around smoking. I guess they think they look cool, but it just annoys the heck out of me. I've only once seen an adult smoking in non designated areas and someone started following him around yelling "this man is poisoining your children with his smoke" and caused a huge scene.

It amazes me what some smokers do. When you are in your car behind someone else that smokes, I can bet you that 90% of the time that when they are done smoking their cigarette they throw it out the window onto the ground, like it is their own personal ashtray. If you like cigarettes so much, put it out in the ashtray of your car. :hammer:

I am a smoker however i do follow all the rules that Disney has about smoking. Sometimes i think that people take the smoking thing a little to far. I have been yelled at more then once for smoking in the smoking sections and i think thats silly. I dont try to disrupt anyone's trip but when a mother parks her stroller in the smoking section and then yells at me i get steamed. If everyone just followed the rules, there wouldn't be any problems. I feel bad for the CM that got disrespected like that but the sad fact is that most smokers don't follow Disney's rules about smoking. If Disney actually had the spine to say "hey if you smoke in a non smoking area your out of the park" we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. It's hard for CMs to enforce rules about smoking when there is no punishment for doing it.
