To stay in a Value or a Moderate resort?

Hey guys,
So I am booked to go stay at Pop Century 2/5 - 2/13 of 2017, very excited and anxiously awaiting a Play, Stay, and Dine announcement!

Quick question and I wanted to get the feedback from all of you. I have calculated it out and the difference between me staying in Pop Century and POR is about $600.

My wife and I, the last two times at Disney, stayed at POR and also Caribbean Beach. I stayed at Pop Century when I was a teenager, but that was a long time ago.

We have a 3-year old and a 2-year old coming with us. Do you think it is worth the extra $600 for the moderate resort, or are we OK in Pop Century?

We rented a car so we won't be using the Disney transportation regardless so the bus situation is not a concern.

Just wanted to get some opinions, can't wait it is getting closer!!!

If you plan on spending a bit of time "relaxing" at the resort and/or pool, the mod may be worth it. We quite often stay at a value resort because all we do is sleep and shower there - maybe a little pool time for the kids who are currently 9 and 11. You may deal with the bus for any MK days to avoid the park, tram, monorail/ferry- on a good day your 30 minutes from your car to the gate at MK, can be 45-60 if you catch a crowd on the tram or monorail. Feb weather is usually very nice, could get rain as a front moves in, but usually just 12-24 hours worth.

Have a magical trip!

Thank you for the replies guys! Yea I just don't want a huge drop off from what we did the last 2 trips to Pop Century, but all we usually do in the room is sleep and maybe take an afternoon nap w/ the kids in the middle of the day, not much beyond that.

I may just wait and see what the cost difference is if / when the promotion comes out because that could impact the price difference too!

Can't wait!

Yes, that discount can be a huge difference in the decision. Sometimes the discount on Mods is bigger than the Values. Enjoy your trip!

Don't forget that in addition to the value rooms being smaller, so are the beds. Mods have queen beds. Values have double (full) beds. This is a deal breaker for our family. Love my DH to death, but I'd be one unhappy momma if I had to share a double bed with him for a week. And if momma's not happy....

This I did not know and my 2-year old will end up with us probably almost every night. My wife enjoys our King bed at home - that could actually be a real deal breaker great info! Thank you!

With 2 and 3 year olds, I suggest saving the money and sticking with a Value Resort. They won't notice the difference (compared to a Moderate Resort) and likely will love the oversized theming at the Values.

I've never stayed at a value (only at Riverside) and I haven't traveled with young children so I have no first hand knowledge. However, a very good friend of mine stayed at Pop with her two kids and said after the trip that she was wishing for more space. The larger beds would've been nice, especially when the youngest wanted to sleep with them. She also would've preferred having the 2 sinks at the moderates vs the single sink so they could get ready quicker. They didn't spend much time in the rooms but they were getting really cramped by the end of their trip.

Also, Port Orleans French Quarter has a new water play area that your children may like, if weather permits, and guests from Riverside can use the facilities at French Quarter since they are sister resorts. The play area replaced the children's wading pool.

I agree with those who advise keeping your plans as they are and saving a few hundred dollars.

These are the minor "upgrades" that a moderate offers. In my view, they'll be better appreciated and worth the extra cost when the kiddos are older, but wouldn't make enough of a difference at this age and stage to justify the price:
- queen-sized beds instead of full (the better to share with a sibling with less fighting over space - but only once they're big enough for that to be an issue)
- in-room coffee-makers (to help Mom and Dad cope)
- additional floor space
- fancier feature pools and quiet pools (mostly a non-issue when the kids are too little to swim, but a nice plus when they're older)
- [everywhere except Coronado Springs] 2 sinks instead of 1, plus [in all the moderates] a privacy door or curtain around the vanity area (great for when multiple people are getting dressed and ready for the day at the same time and independently, but not necessary if it's 2 adults getting both children ready)
- covered, more comfortable bus depots (nice at any age, but their absence is not a deal-breaker in my opinion)

We always stay at Pop. This is our first year with two kids. We have 7 and 1 year old boys. Our oldest loved the theming and looks forward to playing in the themed pools (even if they don't have water slides). We have never stayed in a moderate so we don't know what we are missing (which is probably a good thing). Every year we think about upgrading but we always decide to spend the money on more days rather than a bigger room. We are a rope drop to close family but with a one year old in tow we may be a bit slower this year. Which is again why we decided to stay longer at a value. Plus the kids always sleep great at Disney!

My daughter (5) actually didn't like the idea of staying at a moderate and instead wanted to stay at value. At two and three they don't care if you spend $100 per night or $400 per night, they just want to be somewhere new and the themes of the value resorts are perfect for little kids. If you'll be spending a lot of time in the room then it may be worth it to upgrade since the rooms are bigger, but if you don't plan on spending much time in the room then Pop is a great place for kids your age. I'd play it be ear and see what the price difference is when specials are announced, especially since the moderate resorts will include the regular dining plan instead of quick service, but I don't think you can go wrong either way. :)
