To Disney Employees, how are you treated?

We all love Disney, but how are the employees treated in general. I assume fairly well and you aren't treated like an orphaned child much like a Wal-Mart employee might get.

(Sorry the thread title is misleading, I can't find a way to change it and I accidentally duplicated another one I did)

I think cast treatment really depends on a variety of factors. Obviously your roll plays a big part...if you are an hourly cast member you probably aren't going to get the perks that someone in a professional salaried role gets. Your manager will also play a large part in this.

Bingo.

We were treated well in Watercraft, and I think transportation CM's in general have it good. I was blessed with a great manager who I consider to be one of my best friends now.

As a salaried employee I was treated well during my time with the company. My background was in Human Resources. I loved the group of people I worked with and am still close with them to this day.

I've never had any major problems with how I've been treated working in costuming. There are times people get angry at me because we don't have the correct size in the costume they need. I love working there & can't wait to go back this summer for another college program.

I did the CP, so I was hourly for 6 months. I was never treated badly, not by managers, full-time CM's, anyone. I have definitely heard though, that managers/salary positions get paid quite well and get good benefits.

Exactly right. I have had both my "best" and "worst" job working for Disney. The benefits and schedules were (mostly) the same. I've been a CP, hourly, seasonal, and a DCL CM all in a three year period. I've played alot of roles and tired many more. No other employer has been as good as Disney has to me. I actually lost my last job, because I told my manager if this I how we did it at Disney, I would be fired on the spot.

There is nothing negative that can be said about how I am treated and have been treated while on my CP. The managers I have now as a seasonal CM are the same I had during my CP and they are the greatest people in the business.

As a CM in general, just fine.

But on 3rd shift it's another story. Working for 8 hours alone is bad enough. At the preshift meetings not even the managers smile nor do they talk to you unless they want to add something extra to your work detail. But they suddenly become "Disneyfide" when a executive walks in the door.

This may sound as though I'm exaggerating but it's just the way it is. Cast celebrations and whatnot are always scheduled during the day. You are expected to show up to work with a smile, do your work quietly then "leave" (aka get out of our way) before guests see you. So we have a saying on 3rd shift: "We get a paycheck and a kick in the a$$."

I love doing the work I do but I'm hoping to go somewhere else by summer. Somewhere more "Disney."

Depends on the role and the park/area you're working in.

Epcot was a great working environment. The managers were awesome and understanding, and would never hesitate to help you out.

MK is another story. If I wasn't in the best role in the parks, I would most likely hate it there, not to mention managers egos seem to get in the way of connections with the cast.

Still, being a cast member is great. You get to make people happy everyday, and I've met some of the greatest people in the world working for Disney. There are the jerk guests every once in a while, but the good guests far outnumber the bad.

This is an awesome thread......I love to hear the input from cast members.
I bet you have some incredible stories to tell. It would be interesting to hear more.:)

Okay guys interesting stories, one more question. The "characters". I would have to think that Goofy is most likely a man considering he would have to be 6'3" or 6'4" to fit into the costume but the rest is up in the air for me. So here it goes:

Do the male "characters" get played by males? And vice versa? I mean, you wouldn't have a small man in a Daisy costume would you? But would it be a small man in a Mickey and Donald costume? Or a woman, that is probably told not to portray a lot of feminine mannerisms?

Also, who the heck is in the Stitch and Jiminy Cricket costumes? Why I say this is because out of all the characters these are the ones I dwarf the most. I'm 6'2" and I can only imagine a small kid or a small adult could fit into that

I've heard very bad and it makes you resent the WDC from a close friend- but I've heard way more good than bad.

I'm gonna be taking this risk in a couple of years... hoping for the best. ;D

During my two-month ICP program I worked at the MK and I was always treated very well by co-workers and managers. I don't think I have ever been in such a friendly work environment. :)

I love working at Disney. I've never had any problems with other CMs or managers, and I've always been treated well (I've been at WDW on and off for over 5 years now, and I hope to go FT in May, if all goes well).
