Tipping when on the Dining Plan

There is only going to be 2 of us traveling in August, and we have the dining plan. Are they going to add our tip into the bill automatically since we are on the dining plan, or do they still stick with the 6 or more rule?

Also, I don't usually carry much cash around. I'm assuming I will have to bring some cash for tips at restaurants since we will be using dining plan credits instead of a credit card. Unless there is a way to still tip by credit card at TS restaurants. Should I just plan on carrying extra cash around, or can we leave the tip using a credit card when on the dining pla. (we probably won't be buying anything extra that the dining plan doesn't cover)?

They will not automatically add a tip onto your receipt. You could tip them with a credit card but it seems as though they might be bugged by it, we usually tip in cash when on DDP.

I used a Disney Rewards gift card to tip and it was never a problem. They'd just take the room key and gift card at the same time. I'd think they'd do a same thing with a credit card... or if you have your credit card on your KTTW card with room charging they could just do it all with that card.

Regardless of if you are using DDP or not the server will bring the same check at the end of the meal. Those without DDP will pay like they would at any other restaurant, those with DDP will hand over their KTW card and either cash for the tip or a credit card. Then the server will come back with a receipt for you to sign for your DDP, and a receipt for you to write the tip amount (of your choice) on if you chose to pay the tip with a credit card.

I rarely, if ever carry around cash and had no problems with DDP in regards to tipping. I always pay for my purchases with my Debit/CC card regardless of amount and if whoever is doing the transaction is bugged about it then they can just deal with it, it's 2010 for Pete's sake. The days where processing payment via plastic meant more work are long gone.

I have been a waiter in the last year and things are much easier on the server if you do not use cash.

Precisely - my DW still has this thing about not charging anything under 10 dollars when, (and I worked as a clerk for a good 5 years during my HS/college days) plastic is so much easier to deal with.

When I check into the hotel, I have them link my credit card to my Key to the World.
When I pay for dinner, I give them my KTTW card. They take the dining plan points off and charge my CC for the tip.
I don't have to carry anything, but my KTTW. Love that.

Awesome. Thanks for all the information and advice. I also have a Disney Rewards card so it's nice to know that that is even an option.

Yep that's what I have been using to pay for my tips while on the dining plan ever since I discovered it a few years back! So easy and convenient.

You can choose to set uop a room charge; this can be set up with a credit card, debit card, cash, travelers checks, Disney gift cards or even Disney Dollars.

If you are using the DDP, you will be handing over your Key To The World card, anyway ... you can write the amount of the tip on the receipt in the spaqce provided, and tell the server you are paying for the meal with DDP credits and paying for the tip with your room charge.
