Just make sure you title your envelopes "Housekeeping" and not "Mousekeeping". That is a name invented on the internet (Disney does not use it) and as many housekeepers do not speak English well, they may leave the envelope with the made up word on it.

Never had this issue and we always address them to Mouse keeping.

I am glad you didn't but I know many who did. Once they re-addressed the envelope, it was taken by the house keeper. I also spoke to several housekeepers who didn't know what the word Mousekeeper meant.

Last year, we provided a 20$ tip for a room of four people about 3 days out of a 7 day vacation. This year, however, since we stayed in a DVC villa, housekeeping only came once or twice, and we tipped them on every day they came.

I always tip the housekeeping staff, no matter where I travel to, or what hotel I stay in. Same goes for all service industry staff - bellmen, restaurant servers, parking attendants, etc. It's the way I was brought up--to acknowledge the service of these people.
I knew there was a reason I liked you. Well.....there are many reasons but this is another one. 😀

Yup totally serious ...
Tipping aside, just curious, was it completely broken or was it one of those awful "energy efficient" air conditioners where it shuts off if it doesn't think you are in the room (like, when you are sleeping) and then you wake up in a puddle of sweat? That had happened to me more times than I'd like to admit on recent trips.

We had one of those energy efficient ones .
One balloon purchase and it cured the problem.

Just in case anyone missed the sarcasm we take the same attitude to tipping irl as @MinnieM123 :)

Typically we don’t have Mousekeeping come in and service our room during our resort stays; we just ask for extra sets of towels and additional toiletries on our check in day. We empty the trash daily, make our own beds and keep the room picked up as if we were at home. This is our first deluxe resort stay in a LONG time so we decided to let Mousekeeping come in and take care of the room for us. What is the standard amount given for daily tipping?

How do you avoid housekeeping? If I might ask?

The DND?
I don’t believe that’s a option anymore

Not to derail this thread, but then again, there have been so many threads about this so why not....but the balloon thing didn't work for us. The air shut off as soon as we went to sleep. Every time I woke up in a puddle of sweat, I literally had to dance around the room until it turned on again. Then it was on for 20 minutes and then it snapped off. I think I got more exercise dancing around the room in the middle of the night to get the air back on than from walking around the parks. Grrrr.

Sorry to hear that . We had the ceiling fan running all night and it kept the balloon dancing which must have worked.

I generally leave a tip for Mouskeeping on top of a hand-written note on the bed saying "Thank you Mousekeeping!" with a little smiley Mickey face. I used to leave $20 automatically every few days, but lately I just leave a $5 every single morning I leave the room after I had a couple of days last year where they never showed up to clean the room after I got back in the afternoon. Figured that also allows every housekeeper to get money since I doubt the same person cleans the room every single day I am there.

We just returned from our stay at AKL; I made thank you cards for each day with a $10 tip and left them next to the phone. One day we forgot to take the Room occupied sign off the door when we left, upon our return from the parks later that afternoon is called for a set of towels and said that we would be fine without housekeeping coming in. Within 10 minutes we had towels delivered to the room. We were pleasantly surprised when we returned from dinner that evening and our room had been cleaned and the beds made even though I declined housekeeping that day.

We have always tipped mouse keeping, but 2 years ago, I was actually moved by the individual who received our tips the first 4 days of our stay. We had returned to our room at YC for an afternoon of rest and resort enjoyment. We had just closed the door when there was a knock. I opened the door to be greeted by mouse keeping. This lady explained she was not working the next few days and wanted to personally thank my wife and I for our generosity. She was extremely sincere and actually made my wife tear up. It reinforced what I have always taught my children is that giving we always come back to reward you in one way or another. The lady rewarded us with her gratitude and the idea we made her week.

We had that happen on our last 2 trips. Our mousekeeper at AoA (Nemo) in 2016 was just leaving the room when we returned from the park on our first full day there. She was genuinely appreciative of the tip we left for her (and it wasn't a huge amount of money -- $8). She left *us* a "treat" every day. One day it was a Mickey Mouse helium balloon, one day a 3-D Finding Dory card, one day some Disney candy, and several towel animals on other days. We were in a Lion King suite a few weeks ago and mousekeeping knocked on the door before we were ready to leave for the day. I told her that we'd be leaving in 10 minutes. She said she'd be back and thanked me for the tips we had left her. She, too, was very appreciative. We don't leave the room a mess in any way. We even pick up the towels in the bathroom and set them all on the toilet so it's easier for them to pick them up; we make sure all trash cans are easy to get at; and that there is a nice path (no luggage or shoes nearby) around each bed so it's easy to make the beds. I love coming back from a long day at the parks and seeing that someone has made the beds, emptied the trash, and left fresh towels for us. And even if I try to make their job easy, I still feel like they don't get paid enough for the work they have to do because I know for every "already cleaned up" room they come in to, they probably have 5+ rooms that are just a disaster and probably don't get tips from.

In over 60 days (and 60 tip envelopes) in a Disney resort over our last 8 trips (at 3 different resorts with probably 15 different Mousekeepers since they don't work 7-8 days straight), I've always labeled our envelopes "Thank you Mousekeeping" and never had one left behind. And in reading various Disney message boards for over 15 where people will complain about *anything*, I've never seen someone post that their tip envelope was left behind and they know for sure that it was because it was labeled "mousekeeping" rather than "housekeeping". If it happened, maybe it was because it wasn't left in an obvious spot. Now if someone was at a non-Disney hotel, I can see them not taking it....maybe.

I resent that you are calling me a liar. I was merely reporting what I have read on Disney message boards over the last 20 years. And yes, I have read that information multiple times. And I have spoken to housekeepers who said they had no idea why people used the word "mousekeeping", when Disney does not use it. And as far as bragging about how many trips you have made, we started taking our kids to Disney in 1991 and bought DVC in 1998. We have been there a whole lot more than you have and certainly have more experience in how many housekeepers we have met.

Never called you a liar. Didn't imply that you were lying. Not bragging about how many times I've been there (I'm very well aware that compared to many people on message boards we have been there very few times. Thanks for bragging about your Disney trips. We're all impressed. And by the way, I stated that I was only referring to our last 8 trips. I've been there more than that but I was not the one in charge of leaving the tips on those trips.). I simply stated these facts: 1. I've always addressed our envelopes to "mousekeeping" and never had them left behind. Included the numbers to show it wasn't just a single trip or a one time "lucky" thing. 2. In all these years I've never heard of someone indicating a tip envelope wasn't taken simply because it said "mousekeeping" instead of "housekeeping" before you said it. 3. I was simply wondering if the left-behind "mousekeeping" envelopes were not left in an obvious place and the housekeepers didn't see them. Doesn't really matter, mine were always taken even though many of our mousekeepers spoke very little English. 4. I think we're all aware that "mousekeeping" is a made-up word. I've also read that it is a term that is explained during orientation so that everyone in Disney housekeeping is aware of it.

No need to get all wound up about it. Have a good evening and try not to twist other peoples words to make yourself the victim. If my innocent comments got you upset, you might want to consider not posting on message boards as I'm pretty mellow and laid back -- wait to get upset until someone actually does call you a liar.
