Tipping at the resorts

I didn't want to get the "tiping and dining plan" thread anymore off topic, so I thought I would ask my question here. I understand that $1-$3 a night is customary to tip the mousekeeping staff. Does that sound about right? And do you just leave it on the dresser for the maid, or do they provide envelopes to put it in, or what?

Some people do make envelopes at home for the tip.

Every time I have been to WDW, the mousekeeper leaves a business card with her name on it beside the sink. I usually leave the cash under the card. That way it is obvious that it was left there deliberately and that it is intended for her.

And another note: I leave a tip everyday. You will probably not have the same mousekeeper for the duration of your stay, so it is only fair to tip each day.

It would be really unfair if "Jane" cleaned your room Days 1-5 and "Margaret" did it only Day 6 and she got all the money.

We normally tip around $4 per day to mousekeeping. I usually write little notes to mousekeeping and put the money under the note.

We find that if we leave tips we usually get a towel animal and/or extra soap/shampoo! :lol: :sohappy: :lol:

Does the individual mousekeeper have to put their tips in a pool or do they get to keep what they collected for the day?

I don't remember exactly where I saw this before but I think it was one of the evening news shows....anyway....the housekeeping staff said that they are not permitted to take money unless it is clearly marked for them, so if you want to make sure your mousekeeper gets the money a thank you note or something with thier name on it would probably be the best way.

I usually leave $3 each day, and I leave the money on the pillow on the bed. That way, it will be seen when the bed is being made.

Of course, now that we are staying at a DVC resort, we don't tip as often since we don't get housekeeping service every day. So we tend to leave $5-$10 when we leave.

We leave a $2 tip every day for Mousekeeping and place it under the card they leave on the vanity so they know it's for them. We have yet to come back and find the money still there.

Before our trip, we save 7 five dollar bills and put them in 7 envelopes with 7differant Disney characters on them. We leave one envelope out each morning and mark them "for Mousekeeping."

I've left a tip on the bed and mousekeeping moved it to the nightstand. They didn't take it. That's when I started using notes and envelopes.

When I was there last I tipped $2 per day per person in the room. I made up decorated envelopes before we left - the said either "Mousekeeping: Thanks for all you do" or "Mousekeeping: Just for you" ~ left them on the vanity and there were gone each day.

Honestly, I am a very generous tipper when dining out at a restaurant, but slip when it comes to tipping mousekeeping. I'm glad I saw this thread and just made up the envelopes for our upcoming trip, so I don't miss them this time!

I decorated 6 envelopes with some Mickey Mouse stickers I found at the dollar store and put $3 in each (there are 2 of use staying in the room) and wrote Thanks, Mousekeeping! on them. They are in the folder along with our reservations and flight information, all ready to go.

This isn't directly about tipping, although the issue is indirectly involved I suppose. But the thought just occured to me...what time does Mousekeeping come by? My wife said that at least once this vacation, she wants to sleep in instead of me dragging her out of bed at dawn to get to the park when it opens. So what if we sleep in until 10 AM? Or regardless of what time, what if we happen to be in the room when mousekeeping shows up? Do we just not get maid service that day, or do they come back at a later time when we're gone?

There is no exact time, it varies from resort to resort and also depends on your location in the particular resort. If you have your privacy sign out they normally just come back later. I like to sleep in too, we've never had our room skipped by mousekeeping. :wave:

They start showing up for work about 7:30-8:00AM...I've never had them knock on my door before 9:00AM.
Just put your sign out and they will clean the other rooms first.
I hate it when I come back from the parks around noon to take a nap and they are still cleaning..there's no where to go...lol..so I just mope around until they're done. It's Hell to get old and need naps in the middle of the day just so you can make through it the rest of the day.:lol:
