I do apologize if I misunderstood the intent of your original post. It just struck a nerve with me. I have tried to be patient and tried to "turn the other cheek" as it were and just chalk it up to "it's a joke". However, where do we draw the line in what we believe in? When do we finally stand up if we feel something is wrong.
I am not saying this is the case with you but too often we use the term "it's just a joke" to avoid accepting responsibility for hurting someone else's feelings. I just can't stand by and not say anything anymore. I feel VERY strongly that humor at someone else's expense is wrong, regardless of the subject.
It's one thing to tell jokes amongst friends. This, however, is more public forum than private hang out. It just comes across as very callous and very hurtful to read some of these posts about "fat people". My original intent of this thread was to try and open up some eyes to the fact, not all fat people are fat because of poor choices.
My anger for this, again, comes from seeing too many threads I enjoy turning into a "bash the fat person" thread. I know I have not been here that long but it seems it happens too often. If I stared typing racists posts, or posts against certain sexual orientations, I would be flamed off the board. It rightly so because it would be considered offensive. Why then, if I am equally offended by all the fat jokes, am I wrong? It seems to me, that ANY joke at someone else's expense should be considered wrong.
