The previews look like it will be a cute movie. Probably will not be a blockbuster, but I can see it doing quite well in DVD sales.

It worries me that I think this was suppose to be out in the spring. I saw previews for this late last fall. August and January/February are usually dump the movie months (lets see what we can get for this movie). So I am thinking they had some bad test screenings. Just by the trailer it looks like a nice little movie, however I can see it being a little creepy also, I mean the kid has leaves growing out of his legs.

I heard that they had to reshoot a couple of scenes last fall, which could account for the delay I guess.

I finally saw the preview - had actually seen it already but didn't realize that was the name of the movie. It looks like it can definitley be heartwarming - but I agree with unkadug that it may be more of a DVD than a movie hit.

I feel like the trailer is not doing this movie any favors. It looks almost made-for-TV. But trailers have been very lacking lately... making good movies look bad... Wreck-it Ralph being (hopefully) an exception.

They really aren't promoting it. If I wasn't as plugged into what the company was doing as I am, I wouldn't even know it existed. Even knowing as much about Disney as I do, I barely knew it was coming and didn't even really know when it was coming out. It could be because this was one of Rich Ross's movies and maybe Alan Horn doesn't like it.

What's with the Wednesday release in the middle of August? Trying to get the crowds from the feast of the Assumption?

Not sure box-office wise - I wouldn't expect much in a mid-week opening. The critics are giving it mixed reviews - some really need to lighten up. The movie is a fantasy, light-hearted, and reasonably well acted. Not a bad way to spend a summer afternoon.

Can we go yet?

I saw this movie with my mother today, it was a very cute good movie. :) She was crying through the whole movie, with me only tearing up at the end. Very bittersweet! Too bad the theater was pratically empty...:/

They did a huge marketing push earlier this spring -- and then pulled back when test audiences were giving it scathing responses...no need to throw further good money at bad.
The movie is a bomb, and its critical rating is currently 41% (very poor) and audience rating 71% (average to poor)....The Box Office take is expected to be under 15 million for the 5 days of release from Wed - Sun. Its Wed opening at 2.3 Mil puts it well into the bomb category.

38% critic rating as of today on Rotten Tomatoes, but 75% audience rating. The gross box office take was $7,681,000 as of Friday.
