Not guilty, but the damage has been done. Any negative case like this brought to the attention of the whole country is still bad publicity and people will never look at Tigger the same again. Even when you win you still lose that's why so many big corps pay off settlements before they get to this level.

The only person I feel sorry for is Michael Chartrand. He has to live with everything that happened. He will never be looked at the same when at work or his personal life again. This kind of story may die down in the news but it will always be there with him. So it may be a win for Disney but its a lost for Michael.

I hear ya. This is what I was chanting months and months ago on an earlier thread, but everyone (well, not everyone, but the vocally active ones) treated me as the 'bad guy' for defending this potentially innocent guy. Oh well, I'm just glad justice has done its part, here's hoping for a counter-suit against this lying, money hungry, sorry excuse for a human being.

The news media here, WABC news radio, just stated that the Jury said the Prosecution couldn't even prove who was in the suit at the time so they didn't bother worry about the logistics of even being able to commit the act in the suit.

I'm glad he got acquitted.... although I find it highly ironic...

That Mary Kay Lahowever you spell it just got released from jail today after having ______ with a student & having 2 of his children... got sentenced to 7.5 yrs... when they were talking 15 for this guy.......

What if Mary Kay Laterno had been a male? I can guarantee he would have been in prison for far longer than 7.5 years. She got a slap on the wrist.

I agree with you. This guy probably loved his job, then it all came crashing down on him. He was portraying those characters to make people happy and now he seems like he will be sad about it forever just by the look in his eyes. I also hope he gets his job back at Disney. It is not like anyone will know it is him under the suit anyway, but I know he will never be the same.

I'm really glad that the trial came to this verdict. However, I still am really miffed that the partially assembled costume pictures became widely available on the net. I wonder how many parents had explaining to do.

Oh, you know my two year old just walked in here and saw the pictures as I was looking at them. She is too small to know what is going on in the picture, but she did notice Tigger right off. I imagine older kids will want to know what happened after I realized how quickly my daughter recognized these pictures of him.

He also said on camera that, among other things, he lost his fiance as a result of the allegations.

Wasn't the poor guy British as well? *for some reason that stands out in my mind* He probably came over here with an immense love of Disney and wanting to experience America... BOY did he experience it... This is going to be hung over his head for the rest of his life probably with as much media as it attracted. I feel very sorry for him and I hope he's given his job back (if he even wants it) with a pay raise on top of apologies.. probably won't have any of that but it would be the right thing to do.

Good, I'm glad. Maybe this will stop further law suits with the same allegations.

This was a criminal case. There have not yet been any lawsuits in this matter.

But what if the allegations are correct?

Then the public now knows that they should start the process off by coming forward to the proper authorities immediately, and not a week later.

Also, our system of criminal law prefers that we let a guilty man go versus convict an innocent man. That's the way things (typically) work in the country we choose live in.

I liked the trial testimony of the civil trial lawyer, called by the defense (paraphrased):

Q: Did the family come to see you about a civil lawsuit?

A: Yes, but I turned it down because it didn't look like there was much money in it.

!!!!!

If this was what he really said, its a terribly sad indictment of our legal system. Not only that the family has their sights set on a big payoff before they've proven guilt, but that this particular attorney turned the suit down based on the potential payoff instead of the merits of the case (or, lack thereof). Still, I'll bet they find another lawyer and try it anyway.

Does anyone know if Disney was paying for the defense, or was Michael forced to mortgage the rest of his life for legal representation?

Thanks to everyone for the updates.

We're Going to Disney World

Defense attorney Kaufman worked the case for free.

:sohappy:

After the verdict, he said to news cameras (and I'm not kidding), "We're going to Disney World" - or something very similar to that.

I just happened to turn on CNN headline news. The Tigger Case was the number three story, right up there after Kobe Bryant. Apparently, Mr. Bryant's accuser doesn't want to testify to prove his guilt because it might jeopardize her civil suit. What on earth has happened to our integrity in this country? Are there that many people out there that will destroy someone's life for a few bucks?

I guess Kobe's getting s*****d for getting s******d.

I've never been happier to have been wrong. However, I highly doubt Michael will want to return to Disney after all this, especially with the amount of money Disney still stands to lose in a civil trial.
