Tiffins - A new table service restaurant coming to Discovery Island at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Not necessarily. From the DPB:

Tiffins will celebrate the art of traveling, featuring a diverse menu drawing from places that inspired the creation of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Asian/African/Space Cat/Dinosaur menu I guess.

Disney seems to do an above average job with unique cuisine (Sanaa, Jiko, Tusker's, Harambe Market). I hope this place follow's suit.

Also, I know its just concept art but all of the animals shown on the wall appear to be african animals: african elephant, gorilla, chimp, flamingo. Could be wrong but that is what it looked like to me.

I agree. I hope it's a bit more diverse than that though. They are (for me at least) approaching critical mass with the number of "African inspired/influenced" restaurants. Pan Asian/African Fusion would be interesting but probably too adventurous for the standard park-goer.

The concept art looks really nice. I agree the name sounds odd though.

I'll certainly be curious to see a menu. Given that Discovery Island isn't themed to any single culture, it's entirely possible they could go with a fusion-inspired menu, or a variety of global dishes.

Would be nice if they did offer a set menu served in a Tiffin container. Similar to what is offered for lunch on the Wild Aftrican Trek. Could be a prix fixe lunch offering of small sized appetisers and entrees in the tiffin.
From what I have read of Sanaa Disney can do good Indian food and reports of the African dishes at Harambe Market are good too so this could be a great signature location.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some South American dishes, since they haven't really had a chance to offer that type of cuisine in WDW yet, especially for a signature.
That would be cool. Paradiso 37 is the closest and that's okay but not terribly authentic.

Sanaa has been consistently outstanding for us since they opened. Harambe Market was a bit safe, but still very good. I like the Tiffin as your plate idea.

I like that they seem to be getting a bit more adventurous. Harambe Market, new Pecos menu, rumored that Skippers Canteen will be adventurous to the average guest and potentially this.

Maybe they are realizing that they have enough burger and fries places (that are always packed anyways) that they can get away with adding different types of restaurants and not have a problem filling them up.

I've always enjoyed AK, even though it lacked on attractions but that is changing and this restaurant is a nice addition. Hopefully the food is great. What I'm looking forward to most is seeing the park at night in the dark. I've never been to AK past 6:00 pm.

Don't forget Tortuga Tavern (on the five days a year it's open). I'd like to think we are (finally) seeing a correction after the wave of homogenization that took place in the '00s with WDW's dining. I welcome the new options that have been popping up around the parks.

Signature scares me, does this mean very expensive?

Actually, this is Disney. Signature means very, VERY expensive. Probably 2 table service credits. Likely shooting for Brown Derby quality (definite step up from most theme park sit downs, but a step below the best hotel eateries).

I'm getting the feeling that the AK guest has a more adventurous palate then the MK guest...

The majority of signature restaurants do not fall into the "very, VERY expensive" category IMO. I'd be surprised if this one was as pricey as say, the Boathouse. Considering it is not a steakhouse, I'm going to bet that most meals at this place will be $50 or less per person with a few options closer to the $30 price.

I wonder if this place will have Rivers of Light viewing.
